As for my personal opinion, handtraps like shifter or ghost sister (ecc..) are a serious but necessary matter; let's think about it for a moment: We, as yu-gi-oh! players, have seen these months how this format got torn apart thanks to expensive 1 card combos or unbreakable boards and we can understand that the necessity, to counter these decks with handtraps, has become truly paramount. A proper solution shouldn't be to nerf just one of these problems but to hit both: if we hadn't had decks like snake-eyes etc.., we would have never needed so many handtraps (or even floodgates for the matter) as we need today. What I am trying to say is that, creating and using so many and various handtraps is a consequence to all these decks that outshine every other and both should be limited in their capability (but unfortunately, I don't think it will ever happen).
All the babies getting scared because they have never in their life ever learned or done anything related to a craft made this much more scarier than it was because they all didn´t know what to do given their often undevelopped professional and social skills. (Was that nice? Absolutely not. But i am pointing out the obvious.)
I don't think shifter is that problematic if you have fiendsmith snake eye. That card gets so much hate just because it kills the strategy your are going for but now there are many decks that don't care about it. Maybe not directly meta decks but you have floo, kashtira, rb... even older decks like yosenju could play it. It's just that people can see a card strong against them because immediately want it banned. Fiendsmith is a 1 card combo, same as Snake Eye, and you can go from one to another pretty easily almost with no restrictions.
so like for me i am planning to take a sabbatical from the game after YCS Anaheim in dec. both for health reasons i am on a weight loss quest after my years of sports are behind me and dealing with sports injuries as well as how stressful this game has become it's not fun anymore as my area has become too comp. with players with basically unlimited budgets due to both being on teams and having jobs while I on the other hand am on disability checks and i am not able to keep up any longer even Edison is no fun as it is being judged by modern rules and interactions which as sad as it is has killed the spirit of what i think it should mean to me if you go back in time to a format it should be using those rules as that's what made it special like for example the tricks in battle you could pull off that were really broken back then if you do not know it that's the opp. problem and i will be moving to other games that are much less stressful for me
Shifter is definitely an issue, but I think we need hits to either generic handtraps/boardbreakers or the current meta decks if we want to hit Shifter. Hit Shifter and then there's suddenly less deck variety in top cut and Fiendsmith gets even stronger. I think if they want to hit it on the August list we have to see stuff like Beatrice also go. I also think we need a mass unban of many archetype-specific cards, I think the powercreep has reached beyond so many of them and it would at least give us decks that can compete somewhat with the Fiendsmith stuff.
Some of the biggest problems in the TCG come from Shifter and Skill Drain being at 3. A semi-limit (or limit) on Shifter and moving Skill Drain to limited would fix a lot of problems. The probability between a Shifter deck winning by Shifter in a large scale tournament would fall off by a lot by just moving Shifter to 2 (moving it to 1 would nerf a lot of decks). It doesn't even need to be banned to kill these decks. Shifter at 3 means a ~1/3 chance of drawing Shifter, where your win rate is gonna be very high. Shifter at 2 shifts that to
@@TheTroubledPack Tenpai can do really well without Shifter (deck otks through Pot of Prosperity LMAO), but I don't think a deck like Ritual Beast will see nearly as many tops if Shifter gets hit to 1 or 2.
@@TheTroubledPack Snake-Eyes is also a fairly simlar problem tbh. They're both "Inhave this 1 card that functionally wins me the game unless X". The key difference is that Snake-Eyes demands answers that most decks can run while Shifter demands you to play specific decks.
Maybe we watched different tournaments, but we definitely didnt collectively hate runick. Did you not hear all the cheering? People loved it. Playing against runick stun is awful, but somehow, its actually really fun to play and watch. I can not explain it, but i had a great time watching these feature matches.
Yup people were cheering cause deckout is funny and he beat Joshua Schmidt .. Even if playing it seems fun to some people, it’s still toxic therefore players don’t like it for the most part but there’s always gonna be that one person saying haha i’ll beat the meta sheep with this, not even realising their deck actually is meta at this point if u think about it and playing a deck just to “show it to those meta players” is a sad excuse imo, I doubt u actually pick this deck for the gameplay ..
@@shadowrabbitygo I dont play the deck irl. I am currently on melodious. Obviously its extremly toxic and playing against it is awful. That doesnt mean playing it yourself cant be fun. It absolutely is a guilty pleasure to go into a few edopro matches with it. Its also not just "deckout being funny". People always cheer for the stundecks. Remember the altergeist Mysticmine player that got top 4 at the 2022 euwcq? Everyone was cheering for him everytime he activated mine and people went wild when he judgmented a cosmic. We ate that sh*t up. Its hard to explain to people that dont find enjoyment in it, but stun in some weird way is actually really hype. Wow this feels weird... Usually i am the one defending the meta and hating on stun at my locals...
Gren maju is fine without d shifter. I’ve been playing variants without it. What’s funny is getting blind shiftered only for your opponent to realize you don’t care about it 😂
0:18 someone activated Raigeki
Raigeki is seeing a ton of play since the WCQ

That was a loud bang wtf
A Fusebox exploded and we had to evacuate the Hall. Nobody was harmed.
Any electrical faults are no joke, even a 15a wire popping is roughly as loud and impactful as a moderate firecracker.

Shifter destroys multiple decks, not just the top deck of the format and that’s what makes it an issue

Consistency hits work for tournaments only. If you just play a game, getting shifter'd is still annoying af (even if less likely)
