Nice attempt on that clarinet solo, Thomas. That's a touchy piece b/c you gotta use alternate fingerings WHILE bending some of those notes. I'm glad you didn't lose count (esp with Frank Ticheli conducting, lol)
Conductor doing a great job with this band! Great flutter tongue, clarinets! NICE bass clarinet solo, and I really like that the clarinet soloist went for it, even though he had issues. The 'pro' recording we all listen to is too clean, the guy does not swing, but this kid was wailing! It's tough when you are playing jazz on a concert mpc....you can hear the reed close up on him a couple of times because he's really blowing...a more open mpc helps with that, but you still have to be careful and not let loose too much.
That was fairly spellbinding. It did seem the solo netist's performance wasn't perfect, and he seemed to know it, at the end looking a bit humbled. But as Lauren says here that's a hellishly complex piece--you could practice it for years and never have it perfect. All in all, pretty awesome.
Clarinet player in my high school band sight read that solo in class today.... unbelievable
Probably looked at it before
Is anyone here not a clarinet player? (Bass clarinet myself)
Sheorajek contrabass here
Horn ✌
Im bass clarinet to

That clarinet man..
I died at the solo
Oooooooooooooooh that clarinet solo....
rip to the clarinet solo around 8:30
8:43 is worse somehow
I played that clarinet solo last year, my sophomore year. and it is beyond difficult! and terrifying! but this was such a fun song to play!!
Bass clarinet solo is at 6:07. Nice job!
Jim Benson. That is a contrabass clarinet I know because I play the bass clarinet
It starts on bass clarinet, then contra takes it down lower, and then bass picks it back up.
GracexAchilles Eventing yeah it was weird they focused on the contra but at that point it's just a sustained note and the bass has the solo
same
Jim Benson. Contra
I died of second hand embarrassment hearing the clarinet solo
That contra was me with this piece sophomore year
best bass clarinet moment of all time 6:06

Correct me if im wrong but that looks like a contrabass clarinet not a bass
It is a contrabass clarinet!
@@kayphoto8741 yes but the solo is being played on the bass clarinet. idk why the camera isnt on him.
@@digestingbutterflies612 yes but theres also a contrabass clarinet solo offer the bass solo
I wish my director signaled the trombone entrances like this guy did😢
That contra tho
It's a contrabass clarinet
wait did the contra do the solo? wut
No. One of the bass clarinet players did it.
The contra only played a slight part of the solo, like from 6:10 to 6:14 ish. The bass clarinetist did the rest.
