Trevor Howard Tribute

I have this thing were I sometimes find an actor that really captures my attention for some reason... I then decide to check out more of their films. Sometimes it is just that one performace that captures me, but other times they have something that hits a nerve deep in my gut, something familiar that I can't describe. Trevor Howard is one of those, and so I wanted to make this tribute to him! I wanted to add more of his lighter performances (and some more films), but with this music it had to be the more dark ones. I wanted to add some of my absolute favourite scenes and voiceovers from him. It is hard to edit with black and white films, so I tried a kind of different approach than I usually do, with a few longer scenes. I hope you will like it!

    Very cool and touching montage.
Caught him recently on an old 'This Is Your Life" for Christopher Lee. The next day, I found reminiscences from Terence Pettigrew here on RUclips and was moved by his description of him as the most self-effacing of actors.
Here in the Kurdish region of Iraq, when I will be under 'house arrest' during mid-June - mid-Sep due to the scorching heat, I'll indulge myself by exploring more of the catalogue of his films. He seems to 'carry' a film, whether strong or slightly indifferent and his acting is never less than remarkable.

Thank you! I am sure you will enjoy watching more of his films, he really has something special that I can't quite put my finger on.

@@frklinee yes he had something very special. His collegues Sir John Gielgud, Sir John Mills, Sarah Miles, Robert Mitchum to name a few, really admired him. He just got deep into his character with no ego or conceit. He's one of the greatest of all time. I just discovered a 1955 film where he speaks almost entirely in French. It's called Les Amants du Tage. He was also astonishing in two of his later films: Windwalker (1986) where he speaks entirely in Cheyenne, and Les Années Lumière (1981) or Light Years Away, considered one of director Alain Tanner's best work. It won at Cannes in 1982. Do you know these films?

@@rowley555 I've seen all of these except Windwalker, but I do have it, and it's on my list :) I guess my favourite of these would have to be Les Amants du Tage :)

Today's obituary notice of Sean Connery's death brought me here, may he rip, he told a reporter in his senior years that he became 007 James Bond at HRMS, because originally Ian Fleming wanted either Trevor Howard or Cary Grant to play James Bond role, but these two actors charged expensive and Sean being a budding young actor would accept a lower pay, after viewing these excerpts from Mr. Howard's films he starred in, I may have seen him in one or two of his movies, since I grew up in Utah and Mr. Howard is British, totally worth watching his movies, because Hollywood doesn't make actors now like they used to. Thank you Frklinee for sharing this short, but very informativ video on how Mr. Howard evolved through his acting career, liking the video and I will be looking into watching his movies! :)

So did millions of women. My mother and her female freinds adored him.Mum looking at all his films when they came up on tv made me take notice of him and it didnt take me long to realise he had an emotional truth not shared by any other actor. In 'Man in the 'Middle' he has little more than a supporting role and hes nothing short of astonishing.
