The LG C1/C2 have a BFI mode so they don't have sample and hold blurring! It's not "due to the nature of OLEDs" but rather "due to the lack of BFI and the nature of all default flat screen modern displays"
60hz bfi still has sample and hold blur. Youre just going from terrible 60hz MPRT of 16ms to around 7-8ms with BFI, 120hz BFI has around 3.5ms of persistence blur as well. Still an embarassment in terms of motion clarity compared to a crt with 1ms MPRT at any refresh rate.
Great review! For another review suggestion: Do you think it would be worth taking at the Innocn 32M2V? A lot of people, myself included, are curious how this stacks up to current OLEDs
Really happy with my DW version of this panel which I got pre-owned, but I think the 175Hz over HDMI makes this the automatic choice. A monitor should be able to last you five or ten years.
10? I have a 19 year old ViewSonic VP171b that I only just retired in December. Was still using it as a secondary monitor to my old qnix 27" ips and it's never had a single issue. Granted it was pretty much the best gaming LCD on the market back then.
To bad iets not using a second Gen panel like the S95C tv's they have increased brightness. I was hoping this msi would have that panel since it's a 2023 product but sadly it's not the case. Guess the Alienware DW is still the best option. But I would realy like a glossy 34" so I guess I will wait longer for the second Gen displays or for a LG 34" MLA is that will ever come to market.
You really over exaggerate the issues with these monitors. You almost put me off buying the DW model last year. Decided I'd try it anyway. So glad I did. I've never heard the fan noise despite sitting in my quiet office working during the day. The reflections are fine, never experienced grey wash out as you describe. The fringing around text doesn't exist at all. I use it side by side with my older Alien Alienware 34" IPS and the text clarity is identical. I've really tried to see this issue but it just doesn't exist. I use it for spreadsheet type work everyday so I would notice it if it was an issue. I suppose I've never used a magnifying glass to look for it so maybe that's why it's an issue for you. Burn in is my only concern. 3 year warranty though so I've got some time to return it if it does burn in. Used it for a year of spreadsheet work and no burn in yet.
I'm getting vibes that the power draw on these QD-OLED are very fresh rate dependent that at 165hz the MSI would see a similar 15 watts drop in consumption and even more of a drop at 120Hz.
I'm still missing VRR behavior in your testing, especially with VRR flicker caused by improper gamma curve at different refresh rates. Not gonna pick this up because I need a monitor for everything, in a different form factor, with more brightness and at a more reasonable price. So I'll have to wait for 3rd gen QD-OLED or something.
So weird how some things are deal breakers for some people, but others barely notice it. The VRR flicker is one of those, and VA dark smearing is another. For HUB, panels with any dark smearing are basically garbage, while anything with VRR flicker is basically just fine (or they don't notice it?).
I like these reviews. After hearing about all the drawbacks i feel like it's not worth buying anything at all and I'm still sitting on my old Benq XL2411P, for which basically anything at this point is gonna be a huge upgrade, let alone oled xD
This is yet more good stuff ... I mean ... the price is horrific. That said ... this is all a good thing because it'll drive progress and price reductions around the scene in general. 👍
Thanks for the great review! Hopefully soon we begin to see some more stand-out products. One request though: I (and many others, judging by posts found via Google) have been burned several times by poor or non-existent DDC/CI settings, particularly in LG monitors. Any chance you would begin commenting on what settings are available on the monitors you review, and if they actually work correctly?
Can we get more details on the multi tasking features of this monitor? How well does the KVM switch work when connected to a desktop via HDMI and a laptop via USB-C. Also the specs mention a PiP mode, how does that work in practice?
KVM makes this the one for me, it's still very expensive but I'm really happy they just matched the DWF price instead of going bonkers like Samsung and Philips are doing. Will be watching for this one to get a discounted price before buying probably.
You missed few changes between MSI and Alienware... Also, what cables MSI includes with monitor? This information is missing on site, and it's pretty important thing. Also, please make review of AOC Agon PRO ag344uxm.
Hmm I picked up the DW but I can still return it. I don't think the input lag is that bad on the DW...it's not really noticeable and I use a 360hz monitor for CSGo. Could anyone tell the difference? Only difference I saw was the response time and clarity of OLED is just insanely nice. I mean 360hz does feel smoother but I didn't really tell until way later. Input lag however I can't tell lol.
very annoying thing about this monitor is a popup for short-time pixel protect that you have to close with monitor stick, it pops up every 4 hours and fifth one you cant skip so your gaming monitor gonna shut down for 15 minutes
sure the video is very good as an analysis but right now I have the feeling that I don't care about anything that is not qd-oled gen 3 with 1300 nits pick brightness and improved text clarity, I feel that everything so far was a proof of concept and they are just starting to be an option from gen 3 for monitors. I leave you this comment to help with the algorithm and I look forward to the release of ultra wide 21:9 or 32:9 monitors with qd-oled gen 3 panel!
I appreciate the review. However, there seems to be a very common complaint about this monitor and that is the implementation of the Oled care feature it literally takes over the monitor every 4 hours with a window popping up. MSI is aware of it and has been for a while but they have not released a firmware update as of early 2024. I wouldn't buy this monitor until they do. I would much prefer this over the Alienware version for the 2.1. There is a 34-inch QD-Oled with a 1800R curve the ASRock PG034QRS2A is supposed to come out here in Q2 2024 this one will run at 240hz so might be worth a wait. If you can hold out.
I wish the bottom LED strip wasn't exposed on front side. Was actually trying to build one to light up keyboard and desk around monitor, but couldn't make it aesthetic / thin enough and not be visible to eye, without access to 3d printer or machining tools. Not that the rest of the monitor is appealing, but this one aspect is 'almost'
This was a wonderful review, thank you so much for it; all these oled videos are truly helping me try and figure out my next monitor purchase - upgrading from a 2011 Samsung :P Is there any chance you may be able to give the new LG Gaming monitor - 45GR95QE-B a review? That's one of my other contenders at this point, if they ever release in my country :P Thanks again for the brilliant and tremendous amount of work.

Seems the DW is still the model to get if you care about HDR. Shadow detail is kind of important for an OLED. If you really care about the extra 4ms of latency on the DW, though I doubt anyone could tell in a blind test, the MSI seems like a better option than the DWF & G8.
Schrödinger's 4ms... On Reddit people are like: "Wow DWF has input lag of 3.6ms and it's fast like no input lag." And at the same time be like: "DW has 4ms more lag and it's sluggish"
man. review the samsung. the only one without a fan. fan is a huge no no. also for fan noise you really need a test in high ambient temperature as it's horrible during the summer with no ac... and as time goes it goes louder and louder...
There are some minor issues with this monitor but with that 600 dollar price tag (where i live) Im fine with gettimg the updated version and just swap for a new one when thw burn in eventually kicks in.
Doesn't fix the EOTF so effectively the fix is equivalent to what using a AMD gpu or using source tone mapping mode already did. So really not the savior ppl were hoping for.
@@xil3ntkha0s EOTF is an issue on both AMD & Nvidia. Nvidia had additional issues(but those could already be worked around by using source tone mapping mode). Now AMD & Nvida are equivalent, but HDR 1000 mode is still pretty much broken.
@@xil3ntkha0s I honestly don't think another firmware update is coming. I had to make this choice and choice the DW instead. To those of you asking about the OLED G8, there are first impressions out there, a fair few people have the thing, and as expected, Samsung Display makes a great panel that Samsung the company ruins with poor quality control and questionable decisions, not to mention higher prices. I'm waiting on a proper review here too but I wouldn't expect much from it. The Alienware is still looking like the choice for me
Nah AW has outdated ports, fan issues, coil whine issues, packaging/scratches issues, the Samsung isn't perfect either, but as a DWF owner, I want to get rid of this monitor.
Will MUB do a 6 month or 12 month burn in review of all these oled models? It feels like there's just a lot of uncertainty out there that can only be verified with an empirical test
Man it really bothers me that most if not ALL of these 1000+ dimming zone mini led and oled displays are curved widescreens and or with matte finishes. If i could get a 32 or 34" OLED or genuine mini LED display WITHOUT the widescreen or curve i'd jump straight on it. Lets also not forget a proper glossy finish like on the LG oleds.
I have had a war with dell in my first 30 days of ownership being sent a broken DWF. I will more than likely be switching to MSI just due to the poor customer service I received. :/ Which is strange cause all I hear is that DELL support is amazing.
I really don't like the thick bezels, especially the thick chin. Not to mention the way they implemented the RGB bar is really distracting. Guess I will continue to wait for an ultimate OLED ultrawide monitor.
it's hard to decide between this or the Alienware AW3423DW the alienware is on sale right now for $1679 and the MSI 342C is going for $1700, it would be my daily driver for games and movies etc plus the occasional productivity thing that puts me off the DW is the lack of easy to use firmware support but then the MSI one you say that the build quality is not the best and i dont wanna spend that much and get something that feels cheap.

10:28 Some idiots will misunderstand this line and think OLEDs are blurry.
I'll tell you it's the brightest monitor on the market but blacks are not nearly as good as OLED
Ayo??
Worrying about HDMI 2.1 is ridiculous.
@@efabiano82 not really, I am currently using a work laptop hooked up to it with HDMI and being stuck at 100hz stinks

@Hichem found the boomer
@Hichem Unless you are going to be foolish and abusive your monitor by keeping it on 24/7 then yeah, you'll get burn-in. Key word being 'foolish'
can't wait for oled g8 review
thank You, super nice review here
To bad iets not using a second Gen panel like the S95C tv's they have increased brightness. I was hoping this msi would have that panel since it's a 2023 product but sadly it's not the case. Guess the Alienware DW is still the best option. But I would realy like a glossy 34" so I guess I will wait longer for the second Gen displays or for a LG 34" MLA is that will ever come to market.
This prices are a joke. I would rather buy the LG C2 for less and enjoy my games at 4k 120hz.
i just bought the AW3423DW because I got bored of waiting.. I hope I don't regret it
Playing right now the Chainsaw Demo Resident Evil 4 .. on my LG C2 its so insane
KVM switches are nice
Cutting the usual intro is a great decision. Straight into it
I'm getting vibes that the power draw on these QD-OLED are very fresh rate dependent that at 165hz the MSI would see a similar 15 watts drop in consumption and even more of a drop at 120Hz.
Tim likes to pretend that never happens.
@@astrea555 Kind of a huge issue tbh. If I had a tendency for epilepsy, my monitor would kill me on 90% of loading screens.
After hearing about all the drawbacks i feel like it's not worth buying anything at all and I'm still sitting on my old Benq XL2411P, for which basically anything at this point is gonna be a huge upgrade, let alone oled xD
thanks for the review Tim, great content as always
I have this monitor, and it is the best I have ever had.
This is yet more good stuff ... I mean ... the price is horrific. That said ... this is all a good thing because it'll drive progress and price reductions around the scene in general. 👍
The LED below the display could be useful if you need extra (fixed) light (eg: keyboard with not backlight or something)
Yep. I’ve got a keyboard with a backlight I never use because of the monitor led
That's what I am interested to find out too but no one seems to have the monitor yet except Tim
KVM makes this the one for me, it's still very expensive but I'm really happy they just matched the DWF price instead of going bonkers like Samsung and Philips are doing. Will be watching for this one to get a discounted price before buying probably.
Just always deliver the best monitor reviews!
You missed few changes between MSI and Alienware...
Also, what cables MSI includes with monitor? This information is missing on site, and it's pretty important thing.
Also, please make review of AOC Agon PRO ag344uxm.
Samsung 34in as OLED is super super thin just grabbed it I love it
I wish they could do a 4k version of this size
Thanks for the reviews. Always top notch and the effort.
Just got this monitor, love it.
Thanks for this review! I'm on the edge of buying a HDR OLED monior.
With the quality level of your videos, you should consider expanding to other IT stuff as well =)
sure the video is very good as an analysis but right now I have the feeling that I don't care about anything that is not qd-oled gen 3 with 1300 nits pick brightness and improved text clarity, I feel that everything so far was a proof of concept and they are just starting to be an option from gen 3 for monitors.
I leave you this comment to help with the algorithm and I look forward to the release of ultra wide 21:9 or 32:9 monitors with qd-oled gen 3 panel!
The blur busters Screenshot is of the LG monitor, not the MSI
It's hard to call this "sub pixel" pattern weird, considering it's the good old Diamondtron pattern from the original days of colour CRTs.
This was a wonderful review, thank you so much for it; all these oled videos are truly helping me try and figure out my next monitor purchase - upgrading from a 2011 Samsung :P
Is there any chance you may be able to give the new LG Gaming monitor - 45GR95QE-B a review? That's one of my other contenders at this point, if they ever release in my country :P
Thanks again for the brilliant and tremendous amount of work.
I have been waiting for this one
You only talked about downsides of glossy monitor skipping the better colors displayed by glossy screen, some people like me do prefer glossy display over matt any day, so your this take will in future discourage the companies from releasing any glossy monitor we guys already have such a few selections, don't want to see no options at all😐
Imagine how quickly you could corner the monitor market by releasing glossy. LG should have known better.
Can you test the asus 27" 240hz one? They say it's improved brightness due to heatsink, but other than 25% apl they don't specify the actual brightness.

-10 bit ain't important for HDR
-i can just do a custom resolution to get 157hz and be under power constraint
Set it up last night. Can't wait to game and experiment this weekend.
The important of 10 bit is one of those things u hear a different answer about every diff person u speak with.

another thing i put the dell over the msi is the alienware can easily be purchased for under 900 (with dell sales) and with some coupon fernangling you can get it for as cheap as 600s. there's also the refurbished sales + american express discounts and you're getting the monitor for 30% cheaper than the MSI. i got mine for $580 from the presidents sale a week ago
HAHAHA! Right.
Seems the DW is still the model to get if you care about HDR. Shadow detail is kind of important for an OLED. If you really care about the extra 4ms of latency on the DW, though I doubt anyone could tell in a blind test, the MSI seems like a better option than the DWF & G8.
100% can tell in a blind test compared to my pg279q which is a bit more than dwf. is it worth it, no
I disagree, I think the fan noise totally ruins this monitor. Go with the DWF. Also the MSI one is ugly AF lol.
The input latency is terrible on the DW. Worst choice in my opinion.
Schrödinger's 4ms... On Reddit people are like: "Wow DWF has input lag of 3.6ms and it's fast like no input lag." And at the same time be like: "DW has 4ms more lag and it's sluggish"
@@CasepbX potential for coil whine which can't be fixed? improper hdr eotf and inaccurate delta e's in hdr? okay
Can we get a 32 inch OLed that isn't curved? I don't mind 34 inch displays, but for gaming it gets abysmal Ultra Wide support.
man. review the samsung. the only one without a fan.
fan is a huge no no.
also for fan noise you really need a test in high ambient temperature as it's horrible during the summer with no ac... and as time goes it goes louder and louder...
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LETS GO AND LET SEE!!!!!
There are some minor issues with this monitor but with that 600 dollar price tag (where i live) Im fine with gettimg the updated version and just swap for a new one when thw burn in eventually kicks in.
PLEASE can you do an update on AW3423DWF?? It recently got a firmware update that is supposedly resolving some of the HDR issues on nvidia gpu’s
Doesn't fix the EOTF so effectively the fix is equivalent to what using a AMD gpu or using source tone mapping mode already did. So really not the savior ppl were hoping for.
@@s1aver1 Is the EOTF issue only a problem on the DWF when using Nvidia GPUs?
@@xil3ntkha0s EOTF is an issue on both AMD & Nvidia. Nvidia had additional issues(but those could already be worked around by using source tone mapping mode). Now AMD & Nvida are equivalent, but HDR 1000 mode is still pretty much broken.
@@s1aver1 so I should probably wait for a solution to that before spending $1k on a monitor. ✌️
@@xil3ntkha0s I honestly don't think another firmware update is coming. I had to make this choice and choice the DW instead. The most recent Hardware unbox vid shows setting source tone mapping & contrast to 64 on the DWF for Nvidia GPUs(not amd) does improve EOTF on the DWF getting it into the MSI's league but still not as good as the DW in this regard.
The Alienware is still looking like the choice for me
If you like the coil whine a scratches on the panel go for it 😂
Nah AW has outdated ports, fan issues, coil whine issues, packaging/scratches issues, the Samsung isn't perfect either, but as a DWF owner, I want to get rid of this monitor.
Will MUB do a 6 month or 12 month burn in review of all these oled models? It feels like there's just a lot of uncertainty out there that can only be verified with an empirical test
Hopefully there's a 3840x1600 larger screen in QD-OLED soon (38"- 40").

The burn-in puts me off these OLED monitors. Any info on as to when we will see high refresh 'IPS BLACK' panels?
Man it really bothers me that most if not ALL of these 1000+ dimming zone mini led and oled displays are curved widescreens and or with matte finishes. If i could get a 32 or 34" OLED or genuine mini LED display WITHOUT the widescreen or curve i'd jump straight on it. Lets also not forget a proper glossy finish like on the LG oleds.
