    I have question? Because I hate see you keep saying you don’t know how to use chest voice. Here’s a guide let’s say I’m a bass singer. My range is E2-E4. The highest I could sing without straining is a C4. But in my mix I can go up to about B4 or C5. Anyways, you used chest voice every day. When you speak. Chest voice is when you sing normal without falsetto or headvoice. Just like you say the words “ the car has stop “ now sing the words the car has stop. Your speaking voice would be similar chest because they are practically the same thing. When you not sing in headvoice or falsetto you are sing in chest voice.

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals  6 лет назад +2

      thanks for taking the time to comment! I guess I'll rephrase that.. I know how to use chest voice but I'm not comfortable singing in it very high yet. My vocal coach is currently helping me figure out how to both strengthen/get used to my chest voice in a higher range and I'm working on smoothly switching between registers. Coming from only ever singing head voice my whole life, up until about three years ago, even though chest voice is something I speak with every day it still feels very fish out of water for me to sing in it. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment!

    Amazing video! Thank you so much🥰 I have one question though , and that is do you always singing in mixed voice or do you sing in chest and head voice as well? Or do you sing in mixed voice only when you break out of your chest voice? Sorry if this was probably a little bit confusing, but hope you understand😅😆

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals  3 года назад +2

      My pleasure!! ☺️
      Nope, you won’t only sing in mixed voice! Consider mixed voice to be the middle of your range. The very bottom of your range (the lowest notes you can sing) will be in chest voice, which is also where your speaking voice is. The top of your range is your head voice, which is where you can sing the highest notes. Mixed voice is what’s in between those two voices - it’s what *connects* them. So as you go higher, you’ll leave chest voice and enter mixed voice, and as you go even higher than that you’ll leave mixed voice and enter head voice. It just depends on how high or low the notes are that you’re singing- that determines which voice to use (chest, mixed or head).
      So you’re right about singing mixed voice where your vocal break is, or where you “break” out of your chest voice. 😄 you physically can’t sing mixed voice in your lowest range, because only chest voice exists there and you don’t need mixed voice for that.
      Consider mixed voice exactly what it sounds like - a mixture of head voice and chest voice, which only exists to smooth the transition as you go up and down your range.
      Let me know if that helps, and if you have any other questions! ☺️

    Thanks Kate. This is very helpful. Even tho I have a smooth transition from my chest to head voice but my high notes still sound thin or non-chesty. Does the Nay exercise helps to make it sound more powerful?

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals  4 года назад +1

      Wawa if your transition from chest voice to head voice is already smoothed out, it sounds like you’ve got a good handle on mixed voice! No matter what, mixed voice will always sound less powerful than chest voice, but more powerful than head voice. It’s in the middle so it’s not a belt voice, though mixed voice is a very important foundation so that belting is much easier. So what you’re describing is exactly what mixed voice should be!
      Try out this video to strengthen and raise your chest voice ruclips.net/video/5YoUEC2XcUI/видео.html
      That is the next step I took after learning mixed voice to make my voice more powerful as I went higher, but without straining or hurting my voice. Give that one a watch and let me know if that helps!!

    Is it better to get your chest voice higher or just stick with blending that mixed voice?

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals  3 года назад +1

      Hi! So glad I can help so far! ☺️
      You’ll use both!!! You don’t want to only stay in one or the other because if you only sing with chest voice, it’s a much fuller sound, so it wouldn’t sound quite right when you want a more gentle or soft sound. Also, if you only stick with chest voice, you’ll still have that vocal break. But if you spend 100% of your time in mixed voice, you’ll never get that belt voice and have power when you want it. Mixed voice at its strongest is probably like only 60 or 70% of your full vocal power.
      Right now, definitely spend all your time learning mixed voice until you get it natural! (I also have another video specifically on the Nay exercise on my channel that I suggest you check out!) I also have a video on raising your chest voice, but wait until you have a really solid handle on mixed voice first. (That takes quite a while too, for me it took about a year). Think of mixed voice as the foundation of your voice, and a higher chest voice or belt voice is building off of that.
      Let me know if you have any other questions, I’d be happy to answer whatever I can! You’re going to be amazed at what your voice can do. ☺️

      @katecosettevocals  3 года назад +1

      Ganesh Prasad hi! So glad I can help! ☺️
      So you should definitely not feel any pain!! I haven’t experienced that before so I’m not exactly sure what you could be doing, but my guess is that you’re trying too hard/trying to push out the sound. All singing, mixed and chest voice included, should feel as easy as head voice feels. The only difference is *where* you put your voice, so there should be no difference in the amount of effort you put in.
      Go ahead and give this video ruclips.net/video/FvP0U9o1NRs/видео.html a watch, I go more specifically into that exercise that helped me so much! It should feel as easy as humming or singing in head voice.
      If you’re still having trouble, I do offer online voice lessons if you wanted more specific advice. It’s hard to pinpoint what exactly you’re doing without hearing you. But definitely start with that other video, and let me know if that helped!!

      A question 😅, is pharyngeal and nasal resonance are same? Cause I can feel the resonance in the nose when I try to sing in both pharyngeal and nasal. Is this question understandable? 😅

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals  3 года назад +1

      Glad to hear you’re doing well with singing! Also very glad to hear you’re no longer feeling pain in your jaw and throat. A great baseline to always stick to is knowing that you need to be 100% relaxed at ALL times when you sing. Any kind of pressure, strain or tension (or pain) is directly preventing you from having the voice you want!
      Haha, I’m going to be very honest and say I’m not sure what exactly pharyngeal resonance is, but that isn’t to say it’s incorrect; I’m just not familiar with it. When it comes to resonance, it’s just about where you “feel” your voice in your mouth/body. So your idea of keeping your resonance “higher” is the right idea! If you used to hurt your throat, your voice/resonance was probably in your throat. Chest voice will resonate in the front of your mouth, around your teeth and under your hard palate. Pretty much from the back of your teeth, forward. And as you sing higher, your voice will travel to the upper back of your mouth, under your soft palate. The higher you go, the more up and back your voice will go. You’ll feel it in the space of your mouth you open when you yawn, sort of toward your ears and the upper back of your head. The best way to know where you’ll feel resonance as you sing is by humming. If you hum right now, softly and 100% relaxed, you’ll feel your resonance travel from the front of your mouth, to the upper back of your mouth/head as you sing higher. That’s the same way your voice travels when you sing! Try keeping that in the back of your mind as you sing and it will also help keep your muscles relaxed.
      Keep me posted on your progress and remember to have fun! 😁

    Let’s say.... you are a beginner... how long it would take? A beginner with using mixed voice

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals  6 лет назад +3

      I think when I first started doing this, it took about two months to start seeing any progress at all. And even in that first two/three months, I would practice this stuff maybe four times a week for an hour or two a day. At first, I could only achieve mixed voice if I used that "nay" exercise, and couldn't switch to the words until weeks later. And even after about three months, I had a stronger mixed voice but I would still sometimes "lose" it and need that exercise to put my voice back under my soft palate. So at that point, I was able to sing anything in mixed voice but would sometimes have to fall back on the exercise if I lost my placement which happened often. That stage lasted for about a year and a half. Now, I can use mixed voice whenever and never have to rely on the exercise because I finally have it branded into muscle memory.
      But the key thing here is to not get discouraged! I think the whole idea that "singing is hard" for most people is that they simply didn't give it enough time! It is alllll about muscle memory. It's just like if you wanted to lift 1,000 lbs at the gym when you're only used to lifting 10. You're muscles have never done this before! It's gradual. If you use that "nay" exercise, and sing a few songs only singing on that nay a few days a week, you'll find that it becomes easier and quicker to find that placement. As you ween yourself off the exercise, singing a note on "nay" and then turn it into a vowel. Like: "nayy-ohhhhh" or "nayy-eeeee". Feel how it feels to have that vowel there under your soft palate, and make sure you've got the vowel formed right! Then try to shift the nay into a word. Like "nayy-heyy" and other things like that. After that, I started to sing "nay" on half a phrase in a song and then the words on the other half. Like "nay nay nay the other siiide." This really works because it puts your voice in that place and then the words fit right in because you're already there. Again, this is the part that takes a long time. To ween yourself off the nay and get yourself onto the words. But the more you put your voice where that nay puts it and the more you practice feeling where it is and switching to vowels and words the stronger you will get! And the *easier* it will get! And soon it will be absolutely effortless, I *promise* .
      I was an absolutely beginner too. On my other lesson video, it's titled "how to get out of head voice," I mention this more too, but I couldn't sing to save my life! And I found this "nay" thing and tried it multiple times but kept giving up because it simply took way too long! But *don't give up* !!! Seriously. Just assume it'll take a while and let your muscles strengthen in their own time. It's unfortunately not something you can rush, but believe me, I feel so proud of myself that I did all this work and it actually paid off! Of course I got frustrated a few times, but never give up. You will be able to do it, maybe even faster than me! But try to be patient and don't push yourself too hard. You will get there. If you like, give that other lesson video of mine a look and it might help you too, it has a few different things in there for learning mixed voice, especially geared for a beginner.
      Let me know if you have any questions and how your progress goes! I hope this helped :)

      Kate Cosette Well well. Thank you so much. But I will do this everyday to get better. people have said I sang good. But I always wanted to reach those high notes without strain. I was always in chest voice. Because I could only go up to a Bb4 in chest voice. I was constantly wondering how in the world can I get better. I discovered Mixed voice. I was watching a ton of videos and I was getting more confused. I was frustrated because I want to get there. I know it takes time. I saw your video and it made me understand a little bit better on it. I just wanted know how long it takes so I know 😂😂😂 Because Yeah. I just want to show the world my singing voice. I always have like low confidence on how I don’t think I can sing. So I always want to improve.

    • @katecosettevocals
      @katecosettevocals  6 лет назад +1

      aw no problem! :) I think I practice singing about six days a week, so the more you practice the better you'll get! I do suggest taking one rest day though! Just one every seven days or so. On that rest day I'll let myself sing head voice if I *have* to sing lol but you know, it's really weird. The day I come back after the rest day I'm singing better than I did two days before. Its the magic of that rest. It's also the same reason that when people work out, they don't do it every day. As you work your muscles, you sort of tear them, if i remember correctly from high school health class. And taking a day off allows them to heal for that day and regenerate stronger tissue. If you never give yourself a break, it doesn't allow itself to get as strong or as healthy. And man, when I was sick for two weeks and didn't sing at all, when I got better and it was incredible the improvement I made! If you don't believe me, try it, you'll have to see for yourself :)
      And wow! That's amazing you can go that high in chest voice! Chest voice is still something that I'm struggling with these days!
      I hear you on that low confidence. I was in the exact same place! (And still am sometimes). For me, learning techniques like this just showed me that no matter who you are, you can learn to sing anything. It's just a matter of understanding where to put your voice. And we can never stop improving! Don't worry, the world won't know what hit them :D
      I'm so glad I managed to help in some way! I’m here if you need any other help in the future, and also don't forget to have fun xD
