I loved the close up footage of them eating insects and the family of raccoon dogs! Do they have korean names as well? I didn't think it was mentioned on the vid.
Unforunately, almost every fur coat you see in the US comes from these animals. Raccoon dogs are the number 1 animal used for their fur (oftentimes labeled as faux fur!). They’re being anally electrocuted in China.
I find cute that they are also monogamous, since it's kinda rare for mammals. Also Tom Nook from Animal Crossing is based on a Tanuki, a.k.a racoon dog :)
I am Korean and I often have night walk myself around 1 to 3 am. I live in quite industrialized city but almost everytime I have night walk, I see them, but never seen them during the day time.
I love racoon dogs 🦝 (from 🇰🇷) Recently, the urban populations have increased so i see them almost everyday near the park. They're one of the top predators in Korea. neoguri(🦝 in korean) in Seoul usually feed on insects, wild fruit, and mostly.. cat food😂. At 6 pm they come out clumsily from the bush, force cats away for the feast
They're also a massive problem in Mainland Europe. Ever since the Soviets thought it was a good idea to introduce them in the Eastern Bloc back in the late-1920s for their tough skin and fine quality fur after observing the old-ROC, Imperial Japanese and occupied-Korea from a distance. In fact, the Tanuki/Neoguri problem worsened after the end of the Cold War and the collapse of the Eastern Bloc and the Soviet Union in the late 1980s, as they spread throughout Europe to places as far west as Central and Southern France and as far south as Northern Italy. For example, since 2009, the Swedish Riksdag EXPLICITLY orders people to shoot Tanuki ON SIGHT because of how destructive they can be. Similar policies exist in the Benelux and Eastern Europe due to the Tanuki's successful ability to out-breed many creatures as a result of the abundance of food and water sources in Europe. In the UK, Tanuki are illegal to own as pets due to their aggression and difficulty to tame and train. And people wonder why the United States went to great levels to exterminate Tanuki in the hundreds of thousands back in the 80s when they were hastily imported from Japan.
Tanuki is Japanese. The raccoon dog lived not only in Japan but also in the East Asian continent and moved from the continent to the island. To call it Tanuki is to ignore other East Asian countries. Call they raccoon dog or Korean raccoon dog as Noguri
interesting that they are called racoon dog in English, it makes sense given the masked face, but in German they are called "Marderhunde" (marten dogs)
This is the species most known for being skinned alive, it's an infamous short video that did the rounds a few years back... a horror film if ever there was one
In Mainland Europe, they HAVE to be killed on the spot because of how aggressive they are towards the native wildlife, especially Foxes, Weasels, Badgers and other canids and mustelids. Sweden explicitly orders hunters to target and shoot Tanuki ON SIGHT ever since 2009 for this reason. So while they pose zero threat to humans, for other animals, they are a maurauding horde if left to their devices.
Unfortunately, almost every real furcoat you see nowadays is the skin of these animals. Raccoon dogs are the nr. 1 animals used for fur. They’re being skinned alive. So don’t wear fur please
This was the first animal that I saw in real life before knowing what it was. We thought it was a cat then no, then a dog then no, then we freaked out haha Googled it the next day. Was like seeing a Pokémon.

Do you never safe out in the wildness you never get comfortable I see why these animals move around because it's always something out there lurking there's always going to be competition
Raccoon there and Raccoon dog here are complete different species. They just happen to be look alike. Raccoon dog, "Tanuki" in Japan, is native in some parts of Asia. (By the way, American raccoon is called "Arai-guma/アライグマ" in Japanese, which means "washing bear.")

@@animalaction1456 they aren't dogs either. That'd be like calling foxes wild dogs. They are canine but that doesn't make them dogs. Just like otters are mustelids like ferrets but that doesn't mean they are wild water ferrets.
Canidae are dog like carnivores all members within the group being the most related to dogs in the suborder Caniformia. But, raccoon dogs are a lot less closely related to dogs than wolves and they aren’t literally dogs 🐶. Raccoon dog ancestors split long before dogs existence and are one of the most oldest members of canidae, only member to hibernate too but join extreme snowstorms. Great apes are primates like monkeys but they are not monkeys
A pack of raccoon dogs must be extra vigilant as they move from the forest and into new territory for food. What was your favorite part of this video?
Ah yes, tanukis
The night appearance 😋

I forget what they are called in Korea. Neogguri?
Where I am from it is silly to go on a casual walk at these times due to risk… I am a little jealous. Anyways to your point, a nocturnal canine?

The baby tanuki looks so cute 🥰❤
Whenever they called chopper racoon dog in one piece I thought it was just for fun and fictional
pretty sure that was a joke in one piece, because chopper is a reindeer.

I didn't know about this species. I thought it was just raccoon over there.
Reminds me of a Badger and Fox.
They are essentially a kind of fox despite dog in the name.
Actually, they're not foxes, they're just the closest living relatives of the old world foxes, specifically all species except for the red foxes.

No. They are closely related to foxes. I do wonder if they could breed with foxes but it's an unusual question so google has nothing on it.
