Ceasar was almost 3 years old when this video was taken. I hatched him on May 18, 2012. He is doing great at 5 years old now.

They are stunning, aren't' they. That is the main way you can sex young Golden Pheasants. The females have red eyes.

Yes, Ceasar is officially a daddy. Cleo hatched 2 babies last year and his two new girlfriends hatched 9 babies this year. I have a video posted of the babies from this year.

Wow HE is so tame! I remember them at the bird park they were crazy! I would love to have a pet Golden Pheasant and have him this tame, but all the ones for sale around here are already grown, not an egg to hatch.

@@austinbevis4266 it's not native to where I live in Texas.
There was a bird show going on and I assume he escaped the show.
I caught him in my garage and called animal control.
They found a bird sanctuary for him to live in.
He was so beautiful, I hated to see him go.
The next day a hurricane devastated a major portion of Texas including my town.
Pheasant is not a Bird.

Beautiful birds, I have two Golden Pheasants which are still in their brown plumage but the new colourful plumage is just coming through now... They are very tame and friendly when you are outside the aviary and will eat from your hands but as soon as you go in they get all nervous and flap about 😒
Caesar wouldn't eat out of my hand until he was 2 and half years old. I kept 3 peafowl chicks in his pen until I built another pen for them. They ate out of my hand from day one. I guess Caesar figured out I wasn't so mean after all. It takes time. I also always moved very slowly when inside the pen. Try some live meal worms. They love them! Caesar also loves fresh tomato. go figure...
I know I need to be a little more patient, I also have a two year old male Silver Pheasant who free ranges in the garden, he's very chilled out and friendly.... I am going to try and get hold of some live meal worms as I know they love eating bugs!!
Great! I get live meal worms from Flukerfarms.com when I need a new batch but also raise my own. It's very easy to raise them yourself.

lulzBrownie, in the wild they would eat a variety of things including insects, slugs and snails, seeds, fruit, and possibly even small vertebrates such as lizards or mice. They're pretty opportunistic, really.

I just lucked out. I was asked by a friend of friend if I would try to hatch some pheasant eggs. I had no idea what kind they were. I kept 2 and luckily I picked a mail and female. The female got out of the first pen we built unfortunately. :(
ChasSquirrel He's actually a Red Golden. I have a mail order catalog i got not long ago for chickens and other farm fowl. This particular bird comes in an ornamental pheasant assortment and a group of 25 costs $365.
You are correct. In the US, they are called 'Red Golden' pheasants to differentiate between the hybrids some people breed. The Golden is often crossed with the Lady Amethyst so Ceasar is a 'Red Golden Pheasant'. Most of the time I put the full name in the title of the video like this one. Thanks for watching!

Thank you! I keep Ceasar in an aviary. I wouldn't want to take the chance of a hawk getting him. Golden pheasants are indigenous to the to forests in mountainous areas of western China. They can fly but spend most of their time on the ground foraging for food. They eat bugs and plants in the wild. I feed Ceasar a huge variety of food. I feed him 24% game crumbles, fresh Kale, many kinds of wild bird seed, tomatoes, blueberries, live and dried mealworms, etc. Here is a link to a video I took on his 6th birthday in May this year. ruclips.net/video/2_yt6KDRw9U/видео.html
He has never been sick so I'm not familiar with any particular diseases they are susceptible to. I have read online that they shouldn't be kept with chickens though. I have chickens but they are never let in his aviary. He will eat out of my hand but won't let me pet him. He did get out of the pen one time by accident and luckily I was able to catch him quickly. I was amazed that he seemed pretty calm in my arms. He acted like he was relieved. He got frightened and got out through the gate of the aviary because I was too stupid and let a stranger and her young boy come inside. I learned a long time ago to move slowly when in the aviary. He is much more comfortable with me now though. Thanks for watching!
