  • Pyrometallurgical waste, mid, and byproducts are often reprocessed using pyrometallurgical methods. When this is not the case, they are either processed using other means or simply landfilled. These pyrometallurgical products often contain valuable constituents which can be economically processed. Hydrometallurgical methods offer such processing paths. Examples of using hydrometallurgical and computer modeling methods to process pyrometallurgical products are discussed.
Michael Caplan is currently a Ph.D. Candidate at the Colorado School of Mines in the Kroll Institute for Extractive Metallurgy. His experience involves developing methods to recover various constituents from pyrometallurgical byproducts and waste products using hydrometallurgical and computer modeling methodology. He has experience in the processing of silica, copper, lead, zinc, bismuth, arsenic, and indium.
