There are countless videos on RUclips where some photographer is explaining a lighting setup and the results they show are just plain ordinary. By paying attention to the light and thinking outside the box, your pictures are stunning. The real difference is vision, you see the potential for a photograph and go about creating that. They see a subject and just shoot it. I love your videos, your process has influenced how I shoot and how I use lighting. Thank you.
Jerry is a master artist and educator. On one hand, watching his work can make you feel like your work is very mundane. More importantly though, he inspires us to become our best self as a photographer by not comparing our work to his, but by adopting his attitude of discovery and awareness. Great video, as are all that he produces.
40+ years as a photographer and have to say that this guy is great! Absolutely the best video I have watched and will pass along to my students. Went to both his websites, which I seldom do, and very excellent sources of information.
Changed my whole train of thought on photography and lighting. Absolutely enjoyed and learned a lot in this 58 min presentation than I did for an entire year. Thank you.
Im gona go out on a limb an say he is probably the greatest portrait photographer in the world. This guys understanding of light and photography is so natural, no pun intended. Literally. Totally unphased by any lighting condition. Regardless of what camera and speedlight and modifier. Makes me want to go back to the beginning. Lol im totally a novice when i watch jerry vids.
Charles Coverly it's absolutely amazing that one of the best photographer in the world has not problem with TTL flash. Pro photographer's should pay attention
This is interesting...compared to, for example, Jason Lanier a total different photographer. I like the approach of Jerry a bit more personally (the light and shadow approach). Personally I like well lit and fairly high contrast photography more, but I should definitely go back and play again with natural light and shadows myself.
"You don't have to be the best, you just have to better than last week" Really great end sentiment for a great presentation. It was very thoughtful, thank you for posting!
I’ve been a member of Jerry’s Ice society and not JG for years and he is just so eager to share. He poses and lights like no one else’s business. He is truly one of the greats
It's amazing how powerful photography can be, right? I think each and every example photo that Jerry showed us made me overcome with emotion! (Mind you, that might also have something to do with my 45-year-old hormones!!!). Absolutely brilliant video. Jerry is SUCH an inspiration! x
wow wow wow! everytime I watched something by Jerry I almost can't believe it - his pics are insanely good!! And he shares so freely - what a ripper mate!
So honored to have been in the audience for this seminar. Jerry’s energy and passion is infectious. Thank you B and H for sponsoring this event. Well worth the trip from LA
Unbelievable, incredible and eye-opening. Thank you Jerry and B&H. You are really helping ordinary people become better at capturing their own stories and find pleasure at taking pictures.
Thank you Jerry! I've been a fan of yours since you had those cool inspiration recipe cards. It's great to see you in action again. You put the play back into my work!
Thank you Jerry Ghionis. I have never watched a long video on RUclips, be it tutorial or not. But Jerry, your charismatic speech is amazing and your live shots are brilliant that truly defines your Pro. Being a Nikon Photographer enthusiast, I've learnt alot today from you. Thank you once again from India.
Wow dude, I've just discovered you and this single video has inspired me more than the 100s of Jason lanier, Daniel Norton, Manny Ortiz videos I've watched and don't get me wrong these guys are good but this has really opened my mind to understanding light not equipment. Thank you very very much and I can't wait to get out and start shooting again.
thanku sooooo much sir Jerry Ghionis for sharing all ur good & bad experiences with us, i got too much of learning from this Session... A big Thank you
Mind blown! Funny thing is I came on RUclips to watch videos on what type of flash/strobes to purchase. I will still go ahead and buy them but not with the initial mindset that they're the holy grail of portrait photography but understanding lighting as a whole. "If it illuminates, use it." - Jerry Ghionis.
Although I have been following Jerry’s whereabouts the last few years, I never saw this video. Quite the inspirational photographer! Thank you for putting this video up B&H :)
Lovely work and a terrific video, but I would have liked to have seen a few wedding shots of a couple who didn't look like models. That's the real art: making the ordinary look extraordinary.
Would you please share what you using to get the photos to the screen wirelessly? Wi-Fi cards and which do you use? I love the way you find and use light from objects outdoors and indoors. Of course you are the MASTER of hand poses. Thank you!
I think his D850 has wifi... but you might find some more handy (and accurate) info here www.nikonusa.com/en/learn-and-explore/a/tips-and-techniques/using-your-nikon-cameras-built-in-wi-fi.html
VERY inspiring presentation about finding the magic in MANY ordinary settings and much more! Jerry, if you read this, can you kindly tell me what wrist strap you use? New SUB.
Great talk, thank you for the inspiration! I have a humble suggestion: On 39:10, when using flash and rain (any falling water), use second curtain sync to avoid making it rain upwards!
I dont know why would people NOT like this. This video is gold! Thank you Jerry!

I watch every video of his I can before shooting a wedding. What comes naturally for him I have to think about. Someday I'll get there.

So true. Most of the world aren't the "beautiful people". I would like to have seen women who aren't pencil thin or modelesque.
He has a few other videos that shows how he photographs non-modelesque people
Inspiration with a punch of knowledge! Fantastic seminar!
Quedo agradecido. Lo que más me ha sorprendido es el trabajo de posproducción.

Mr. Bond hi
I have a question? What with a crop sensor camera. Would the light treat the same for the subject.
So much wisdom even in the first 5 minutes!
