The Thor is another epitome of clan mechs: Fast, deadly and extremely versatile. Alt C is a very nasty brawler and was often used as a "boss mech" in Mechwarrior 3. I would also say that the Thor is a descendant of the Thunderbolt, as they share the offset cockpit and missile launcher.
In MW4 Mercs, I always hunt down a IIC, strip it, bump the engines up a tick, throw a clan LBXAC20 in each arm, 3 flamers in the torso, 6-8 tons of ammo and as much armor as you can fit. Use it on Solaris VII to get rich early on in campaigns. You just run up on fools and give them the double barreled shotgun to the face until they aren't there anymore, rinse-repeat. Cannot recommend the strategy enough. I know of nothing that can match it fighting in the close confines of the arenas. Anything big enough to match its raw firepower can't keep the Thor out of its rear arc. Anything fast enough to keep an eye on you gets its eyes shot out in 1-2 salvos. If you can headhunt cockpits with gauss rifles = you can point-blank faces with the shotguns. Best part though is you don't need to. Just core folks, aim center mass and let it fly. If you can't hit it easily just one trigger pull to remove a leg.
Oh, I don't hate clan 'mechs. I just have a problem with those artificial ingredients they cram into the cockpit. Once you scrape that out and let it air a bit everything is much better.

the U version has Jump jets because they are fixed on the base chassis fixed equipment on omni are carried across all variants this includes heat sinks that aren't "free* (ie hidden in the engine due to being over 250ish engine rating) and jump jets the biggest change of the Thor II/Grand Summoner was making the formerly fixed equipment (the jump jets and heat sinks that couldn't be hidden in the engine) be optional pod mount equipment.
@@lexington476 what's funny is that Aidan only piloted a Timber Wolf once, and that was in his last battle. The only reason he did ,was that the Falcon Guard didn't have any Summoners available.
I like the Thor for the sheer fact that it's a really good omnimech. What I don't like about it is that it was the Emerald parakeet that made the damn thing. But still a very good omnimmech.
Hello Grim. Even though I am not a fan of Clan Mechs, the Thor is a respectable machine on the battlefield. I have faced many of them to my detrimental cost. How ever, it can be defeated... although never easily. As an Inner Sphere Mech player, my 'best bet' against a Thor is to field something equally as heavy, or heavier in response. Many of my friends would take Warhammers against it and lose. I chose to over match the opposing Mech by fielding a quad-PPC version of the Awesome. I do not remember if it is still 'legal' to do this, but I would mount all four of the PPCs into the left and right torsos. One pair per side. This, allowed me to use the arms as 'shields' to absorb the Thor's incoming firepower long enough to melt it sufficiently with my own weaponry in response. Your video was informative, and well presented, even though I disliked the overall topic. Hoping you are doing well in this era of Covid, spoken Frank-ly
For a heavy Omni, it is ok. It's lack of pod space for its weight class is really a limiting factor in my use of it. If I have a choice of Clan mechs at 70 ton's, I would rather go with a Nova Cat( more pod space, better options). More Clan mechs are fine with me. If the filthy Freebirths do not like it, I welcome some 1 on 1 Combat!
Clan Wolf has the Timberwolf, Clan Jade Falcon has this. The Thor/Summoner is very powerful, but I don't like its skimpy armor. It trades it for lots of mobility, though. That's why it's so tough.
Random point. (tho you may already know this in which case disregard this comment) If your looking for art of mechs that is fairly accurate my I suggest the Battletech CCG? I has some stellar art of most of these variants your talking about. (made me think of it when you mentioned that about the Thor B as the art for it in the CCG looks the part) Love your videos BTW.
Thanks for the suggestion. I do believe many of the artworks from Sarna are taken from that. Unfortunately they are pretty low res but I use them whenever i find them.
@@GrimDarkNarrator So there is a program game called Lackey (google Lackey CCG). That people have used to still play the Battletech CCG to this day. It has all the cards in high res. There is also a Facebook group for it and a Discord. If your looking for specific images or specific mechs or variants they should all be on Lackey. The game Dls the image files onto your computer as JPEGs so you can edit them from there. It requires a little knowledge on where to DL the plugin for specifically Battletech but if your interested I'd be happy to walk you thru it.
The one thing I dont like about mechwarrior online is the jump jets, they dont just dont feel like they do what theyre supposed to.. Like jump jet to me means im going from point A to point B quickly. The ones in that game feel more like hover jets, they get me from point A to point B eventually..
While the Thor/ Summoner is not one of my favorite Clan mechs, I can say 8t has been one of the most reliable ones that I have used. I prefer the Alt. C and D variants. Don't think I have lost an engagement when I have had a Thor in my Star.

Since you did the Thor, you should also do the Loki, I've always considered those two to basically be a pair.
Second that motion.
I'll add it to possible topics.
They're looked like brothers 🤣😅
Thor and Mad cat have been my favorite by their design and fire power.

Yeah, Clan _mechs_ are awesome! It’s the things that pilot them that sux.
What do you hate more? Clan vat babies or WOB Cyber boogi men or a Capellan? Personally I love 💘 WOB Cyber super soldiers 😎.

...Shit! Cockpit! We forgot the cockpit!
Relax, just stick it, I don't know, the shoulder?
Fuck it whatever.
I used this mech back in MW 4. Versatile & hard to replace.
Oh oh oh, here we go! The personal ride of The Great Star Colonel Nikolai Malthus!
It was a great mech w/o Malthus. No one seems to remember this was Aydin Pryde's preferred mech as well.
@@dubuyajay9964 true, Aydin was a true leader. I forgot he had piloted a Thor as he also piled it on Mad Cat.

The summoner. The Jade Falcon Mech of choice.
The Thor/Summoner was already a solidly good mech, but for CJF to improve it even further is madness...

I really like the sound in the background 👍🐲
Glad to hear that.
Mmmm...batchall mech.
Thanks for the vid sir.👍🏼👍🏼

Great video, thank you. Could we get one on the Atlas (if you didn’t already) or The Elementals (yes I know they’re both the mech and its pilot).

I the same Mechs are Mechs. Although I am Inner Spear Orientated, knowing your enemy is a good thing.
Yay the Thor...here my EPCC rawr!!!

The Thor’s/Summoner was my favorite mech in mechwarrior 3 and 4, I did not really like it in MWO
