As you passed the aberdeen harbour expansion the grassy mounds with vents were the city landfill site. Vents are to prevent the build up of noxious gases from the mixed waste buried there.👍🏼
You're absolutely right about those small light house structures. They're the leading lights for the harbour and help guide ships in the channel. One is green and one is red which corresponds to the port and starboard lights on ships. Also, the "air traffic control" style building is the Marine Operations Centre which houses the Vessel Traffic Services for the harbour.
Right by one of the leading light houses was Ferry Road which at the bottom of the street was the crossing to Footdee, I was raised there as a small child before moving to the more modern suburbs of Mastrick lol
I love your humour and great info about wherever you go. I live on the sea on west coast of B.C. Just love all your varied vlogs but particularly love the sea, mountains and lochs! As I live vicariously by all the travel vlogs and yours are DEFINITELY the best!
Thank you so much for these 2 videos highlighting my mother's hometown, Aberdeen! Wonderful! The beach is absolutely beautiful, as well as the coastline! I agree with your comments about people littering - nasty. Being a railfan, I'd definitely appreciate the views of the railway on parts of the trail. 8 out of 10 is very respectable. Finally, I'm so glad you found a bus!!
Lovely, you're right it is a stunning coastline, just very diffeent from tne West coast. I followed Chris Walks the UK, then James walking for MIND on FB & saw all that, harsh & midgey too! Trying to inspire a friends son to do vlogging, sent him parts 1 & 2 as it starts with a footie stadium, that'll appeal to him! Thanks for another great vid.
Steve those lighthouses, could be transit beacons for ships. One Is higher than the other so keeping both lights one on top of the other. Give you safe passage.
lived in cove all my life, experienced that hill up from the harbour too many times, its even worse cycling up it haha. the shop at the top of the hill is like an oasis in the desert always need to down a drink after. The real reason i clicked on this video was to watch you suffer the hill but i enjoyed the vid so it was a cherry on top haha
Hi Steve, the vents are for gas off it was an old rubbish dump for years, you passed my house on the coast about 1.5 miles south of this, I’m gutted would of given you a hearty lunch.cheers Our house at 14,16
Truly Spectacular Steve..... But that is Scotty Land for you... Nature`s Beauty round every corner..... Glad you are feeling better... I look forward to Alicja`s video from Poland... Time for a Wee Dram for you :-))))
Great tae see ya back match fit fella, pretty sure the guy getting filmed at the start was chef Ainsley Harriott. The littering anywhere really grinds my gears, lost count seeing people eat on a train too then just get up and get off leaving behind cups and bags or wrappers etc, much be such a hassle for them to put in that nearby bin. Thanks again fella.
Hi Steve, the vents are for gas off it was an old rubbish dump for years, you passed my house on the coast about 1.5 miles south of this, I’m gutted would of given you a hearty lunch.cheers
Thanks, Steve for another great film in the can. You are fast becoming one of Scotland's great travel presenters/filmmakers & always enjoyable Steve...
I may be wrong but I think the grassy mound with the vents is a former municipal tip and the vents are there to release methane and other gases generated from the rotting decay underneath.
We have that setup in the States as well; former landfills are contoured over, and there are venting pipes to prevent the buildup of gases. Less explosive than a fuel stockpile, but explosive nonetheless.
I think your mystery person on the promenade was Ainsley Harriott. Hope to see another Polish video. It's such a beautiful country with wonderful people. 🇺🇦
Cheers Scott! Alicja was hoping to make a train vid in Poland, but her home town and station is packed full of poor refugees at the moment so it didn't feel right to film there. She did manage some footage though, so hope to get something up soon! Hope you're doing well and having some more adventures in this stunning weather!
I just can't get over how beautiful that coast is. Really enjoying seeing all these wonderful seaside gems. Take care of yourself after that long trek! About to watch your next one!
Haha Steve, where did you hear about fuel tanks under the mound at Tullos Hill? At the top it is Tullos woods, or the farting woods. Although there is not many trees up there. The mound was a rubbish tip for Aberdeen & beyond. What happens to built up rubbish over decades, it starts farting, all those horrible gases polluting the air, something needed done, and what you see today with the vents is the result.
Hi guys, hi Steve. I'm a little late to the party. The sea air must have been great! The presentation was as if we were there walking with you. Coastal Trail just got put on my list of places for a day hike. And the breakfast wrap. All the food groups, yum yum. That ice cold Coke was worth the hike 'eh Steve. Cheers, Aloha!
What an enjoyable brisk walk down the Aberdeen Coastal path Part 2. Sorry to hear you have been unwell Steve, I’m struggling to recover from covid since 1st Jan. I could do with some of that Scottish fresh air myself! this is indeed a very wild and rugged Coast “An Unsung Coast” great description! why do some people insist on defiling a beautiful planet by leaving their rubbish!! thanks 🙏 again Steve for another fabulous dramatic video, I’m with you 8out10, I’m off to the kitchen now to make a pathetic bacon 🥓 roll, can’t compete with that gigantic breakfast in a bun it looked delicious 😋 take care and get well soon, we can’t do without our intrepid ‘Braveheart’ and your sidekick Alicja, 😊🤗👋
Right where one of those leading light light house was is where Ferry Road used to be. A row of houses on each side with the ferry crossing to Footdee at the bottom of the street. I was raised there as a small child
Another great video! Glad your feeling better, I agree, compared to the west coast the east coast is so underapreciated but you can see why to be honest.
Sorry I didn’t know that you have been sick . You still look a little peeky . Hoping Alicja is still safe in Poland . Well the weather wasn’t as windy on this trip. Some beautiful coves and rough sea shots . Looking forward to your next video, as always 🌹❤️🇨🇦Jean
I was at the Tory battery looking for the dolphins at the harbour entrance. We saw a seagull making a determined effort to empty the bins in search of food. It succeeded in finding a burger and then promptly downed it in one. The litter therefore isn’t necessarily inconsiderate people, but actually seagulls.
Cracking video as usual the coastline around Aberdeen looks stunning glad you are on the mend kean asks would you live in the lighthouse and would you eat fish finger sandwiches as that's what lighthouse keepers ate bless him me and my dad are coming to stay in Edinburgh for a couple of days next week to spread my mums ashes at Queensferry her favourite place thanks again for entertaining my boy and me stay safe out there from joff and kean
Hey Steve , I was waiting for you to get beaned by an errant golf ball while you were walking on those golf courses. You know how unforgiving golf players can be! Our golf courses have alligators to ward off trespassers. Anyway, another great video and stay safe.
Great video Steve. I lived in Aberdeen for 10years and you manage to show me new things. I'm a bit surprised a walker of your stature and knowledge would mistake a Trig Point for a gun turret though! All the best!
Well having visited Aberdeen many times I think I should add......probably Ainsley Harriott?! 🤔 That's it nothing else...😏🙂 Lovely video and am sure a walk in the fresh coastal air did you good...🤧🤗
Another fascinating coastal walk, and trains too... It must have been amazing when the steam trains ran along this line! Get fully recovered, all the best.
Another super video Steve . Just to let you know the area you thought held storage tanks is just an old landfill site the pipes you see are venting methane from all the crap under the grass Keep up the interesting walks We really enjoy them Bill lynch
Always love the mix of natural and man made industrial landscapes, so this would be great for me... Like that nuclear power station in middle of nowhere on the way up to Edinburgh on ECML train. Take it with a pinch of salt (excuse pun), but 'celebrity' looked very much like chef Ainsley Harriot... You didn't miss much Steve - not worth a selfie imho😁.
This video bring back so many Aberdeen memories for me, thank you so much Steve! I remember that I used to watch dolphins on Torry battery, and once I found a giant animal skeleton behind that big dry trunk on the beach....
Thanks Steve for a great video please keep making them as for me never enough very much enjoy your presentation but miss Alicia hope she's back soon but even without her your videos are prime entertainment thanks again for showing off beautiful Scotland what A MAGICAL PLACE IT IS.
Hi Steve, Well done for making part two, even though you've not fully recovered. Again it was very interesting and factual as with all your video's. Many thanks and take care.
Considering the weather you’re out in sometimes to make your videos it’s not surprising that you were not feeling well. Hope you are back to 100% soon. And again, thanks for taking us along on your trips.
me and my friend was up in aberdeen on sat and was lookin for this snack van by the time we got there they ran out of the all day breakfast wrap lol but got something else and they food is awesome and very friendly
Well done Steve that was a fair old walk you did there . Took a chance heading into Torry on your own. Girdleness , Walker Park and the Bay of Nigg was a favourite picnic in my younger days but nothing stays the same . Hope you enjoyed the second half of your wrap..
Cheers John - she tried, but it was tricky as she wanted to do a train video, but the stations are emergency buildings just now for all the poor refugees
Unsung coast indeed - so beautiful! How about getting a bike? You could cover more ground. I love seeing the train tracks and trains. Another great video!
Cheers Derrick! I've got one at my Dad's place but nowhere to store one at home (without threat of it getting stolen). Will be getting one soon though when we move to Montrose!
8 out of 10? You forgot to add for the breakfast roll, that's an extra 2 surely? 😄 Fantastic! Really enjoyed this series of walks, in Aberdeen, Glasgow and in Edinburgh. East coast has always been my favourite so shush, don't tell everyone. 😁
Brilliant video Steve, Grew up in Aberdeenshire mid 70's to mid 90's. Stuartfiled for most of my life then Near Pennan before moving south to Carlisle. Still vivit family & friends in Aberdeen & the wider shire. And know all to well the tale of the Turra Coo. I think the storage site your talking about (fuel) is actually a landfill site with the pipes venting off gas given off during the decomposition. Also been trying to sign up to Patreon but keeps blocking me. Oh well I'll keep trying. Dumfires & Galloway has some fantastic places to see and things to do BTW...
I was around Nigg Bay myself in the past week - sat on that big washed up tree for lunch! The weather is getting far better, and it was definitely coats off for me 😊
A new video 😃 been looking forward to it mate! Seems the weather has held up and is dry. You know yourself up there not the best at times. It looked as if you where up near to where Altens is. Having worked offshore for years the east coast scenery, specially on the way up on the train is top notch 🏴🏴
Great video. In the background, twice, there were surfers. I'd really like to see more as I live in Surf City (Huntington Beach, California.) This was one of the best yet!
Thanks for giving us part 2. What a beautiful and rugged coastline! Scotland is blessed with outstanding beauty! Glad that you are feeling better, Steve! Can't wait for Alicja's video from Poland! Cheers!
Well hey, for not feeling 100% you did al phenomenal job on the push around the coast! Glad to see you’re slowly recovering. Not sure the cold helped haha so keep up those meds!
That big steel cylinder on the rocks in front of the Girdle Ness Light at 6:41 is a quite large ship's boiler . Ominous ... That thingy at 13:55 that you were speculating was part of a gun emplacement is (I BELIEVE) a geodetic marker that is used by surveyors to fix their location. They should turn up here and there. I think that I saw one like it recently when the two of you were hiking a small island a month or so back.
As you passed the aberdeen harbour expansion the grassy mounds with vents were the city landfill site. Vents are to prevent the build up of noxious gases from the mixed waste buried there.👍🏼
N here I thought it was emergency storage bunkers filled with kegs of Irn Bru
Looked very filling that breakfast wrap plus you are really good at being a youtuber Steve
That's Ainsley Harriet. The famous TV chef 👨🍳 .Great video thanks
Interesting, seeing him up in aberdeen
prick with a fork!
Yeh thought the same.
Thanks for solving that mystery!
Enjoyed this video, and Views,

Thanks for part 2! I also agree with the other comments on talking Alicja into another video from Poland 🤞
Cheers Thomas! We have some clips to play with from Poland so we'll see what we can do :)
Thanks, Steve for another great film in the can. You are fast becoming one of Scotland's great travel presenters/filmmakers & always enjoyable Steve...
the whole of britan
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate it :)

they sometimes have them that burn off the gasses, lots of little stacks all burning off gas
We have that setup in the States as well; former landfills are contoured over, and there are venting pipes to prevent the buildup of gases. Less explosive than a fuel stockpile, but explosive nonetheless.
Paul Neave: Correct. It was the local tip! We used to laugh, the first thing the Queen saw when she visited Aberdeen in Britannia was the local tip.
I think your mystery person on the promenade was Ainsley Harriott. Hope to see another Polish video. It's such a beautiful country with wonderful people. 🇺🇦

There's a fog horn on flat Holm island which is Welsh island on the river seven/ Bristol channel but no longer operating

Me too Janice, it's absolutely stunning and I must say much better in real life than in my videos :)
Yes, I absolutely want to have a go in that lifeboat. I'd pay good money to experience that drop.
Haha you crazy! :)
Haha Steve, where did you hear about fuel tanks under the mound at Tullos Hill? At the top it is Tullos woods, or the farting woods. Although there is not many trees up there. Good to see you are better @SteveMarsh. Lovely walk. For such a nice looking day, there was a fair swell.
Cheers Rupert!

It succeeded in finding a burger and then promptly downed it in one. The litter therefore isn’t necessarily inconsiderate people, but actually seagulls.
Isn't the concrete pillar at 13:58 a trig point?
Ah good point, you're probably right!
That is some very nice patch of earth indeed! 🤗
Cheers mate! The sea air helped make me feel better :)
@@steve-marsh No doubt it did! If only I hadn't to sell my car to be able to afford the contemporary fuel prices…
Anyhoo, glad to hear! 🤗
Thanks for sharing what must be a wild coast line in bad weather. Hope you fully recover in the near future.
Thanks Anthony!

Thanks guys! Kean - it's ALWAYS been my dream since I was a child to live in a lighthouse (with a round bed!) :)
Great part two of your walk considering you were under the weather, the breakfast wrap must have kept you going.
Aye, that and the fresh air - took a while to walk off that wrap :)
@@steve-marsh looked a biggy.😁
Aw man I need a breakfast wrap!
I agree! YOU DO! :)
Hey Steve , I was waiting for you to get beaned by an errant golf ball while you were walking on those golf courses. You know how unforgiving golf players can be! Our golf courses have alligators to ward off trespassers. Anyway, another great video and stay safe.
Haha we need some gators to keep me away :D Cheers Robert!
Right to roam includes golf courses. Not the green, which is private, and the fairway has a special rule: you can cross but not stop or camp.
Great to see you back steve. That wrap is 2 days food for me! Bloody marvellous/fantastic video.Thank you
I couldn't even finish half! (which the birds were happy about) :)
You are a hero, dragging yourself from your sickbed, just for to keep us entertained!
Two most enjoyable videos and great commentary.
Thanks so much! :) The sea air sure helped!
Great video Steve. Really enjoyed it as always.
Cheers David!
Great video Steve. I lived in Aberdeen for 10years and you manage to show me new things. I'm a bit surprised a walker of your stature and knowledge would mistake a Trig Point for a gun turret though! All the best!
Haha shows my true knowledge eh?
Well having visited Aberdeen many times I think I should add......probably Ainsley Harriott?! 🤔
That's it nothing else...😏🙂
Lovely video and am sure a walk in the fresh coastal air did you good...🤧🤗
The sea air really did the trick! And thanks for solving the mystery! :)
Another fascinating coastal walk, and trains too... It must have been amazing when the steam trains ran along this line! Get fully recovered, all the best.
Aye imagine it! Still a cracking journey on the train up from Edinburgh - the coastal views are stunning. I much prefer to take the train than drive!
Aberdeen lad here thanks for the videos Steve.. 💯👌
Cheers mate!
Would love to make that walk along the coast by the lighthouse! Glad you're feeling better!
Cheers mate! Getting there :)
Hi Steve. Thanks for your content! We are moving from England to Foyers! What sunglasses do you wear please??
So glad you found bus back, I'd have hated to hear of you wandering around Cove for days on end...
Haha that's what I was imagining! :)
I love part 2, too. You do sound raspy, but it's good to see you up and around. Rest well, you earned it. Merry Ann from Minnesota
Another super video Steve . Just to let you know the area you thought held storage tanks is just an old landfill site the pipes you see are venting methane from all the crap under the grass
Keep up the interesting walks
We really enjoy them

That thingy at 13:55 that you were speculating was part of a gun emplacement is (I BELIEVE) a geodetic marker that is used by surveyors to fix their location. They should turn up here and there. I think that I saw one like it recently when the two of you were hiking a small island a month or so back.
Ahhh thanks so much for the info Abraham!
That breakfast wrap 😳. Must tell my son about that place - he’d probably have two! 😂
Haha that was the toughest part of the day getting through it!
