Older David Byrne does seem less tense, less nervous and more fun than younger David Byrne. He's finally relaxed. And his creativity continues. His last album was excellent, and this show sounds insane in the best way. Great interview, Seth.
My spouse and I saw the remastered “Stop Making Sense” in the theater last weekend- magnificent! David Byrne is one of those artists who feels like an incandescent being from another universe when he performs. Amazing.
I watched it on Amazon Prime a couple years ago, so I'm guessing it wasn't the new remastered version. It was fascinating to finally see it after listening to the album for years. I'd love to see it again with remastered sound.
@michaeldougherty6036 no, this new version just came out this year for the film's 40th anniversary. It is playing in theaters for another week still and if at all possible I implore you to try to catch it. I had watched it at home for years, I went through a period in college where I put it on every single day, I was absolutely obsessed. And the first time I saw it in a movie theater I was astounded because it was an entirely new experience. When you see it in the theater it's like you're in the audience at their actual live show. This is largely due to the clever camera work which doesn't show the audience until the very end (and ideally most of the movie theater audience is dancing, as they should be). But it was amazing! I saw it in theaters at lease 3 times since, including a screening with Jonathan Demme, and I saw the premiere of this new version in a theater for the live IMAX event which was beamed all over from the Toronto International Film Festival on 9/11. And once again, it was a freshly phenomenal experience. The sound and picture are PRISTINE. Honestly it was mesmerizing at times. So yes, enjoying the remastered version at home will still be well, enjoyable. But if you can catch it in the theater, you will be in for an immersive visceral experience that you will neither regret nor forget! I am going to see it at least once hopefully twice before its run ends on the 15th.
Back when it came out, friend Donna and I danced through the entire movie up in the balcony of The Castro Theatre, where I then worked. It was utterly fantastic!
I've seen this!! saw it in 2014/2015 when I was in college and I can't recommend it highly enough, it's one of the most unique and interesting shows I've ever seen
Wow i had no idea there was a dance floor for Here Lies Love, that's so cool! I'm glad they have an option for sitting though, accessibility is so important ❤
There's David Byrnes being a role model for decent human being...I like him even more. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
Saw Talking Heads in 1983 - the same tour that is captured in Stop Making Sense - and it still stands out as the best show I have ever been to. His new Boradway show seems to be feeding off that same vibe - the audience was on their their feet the whole time. I remember it being involentary, that you could not help it, especially the first half when the band is slowly built up. The audience was part of the show.
my first rock concert (if you can call it that, how do we classify the Talking Heads?! - alternative rock?) was the Big Suit tour in the ‘80s. I was 14 and thrilled beyond thrilled
Went to RISD and missed David Byrne by a couple years. Stop Making Sense was an artistic milestone. I danced like crazy when I saw it around 1985 in Boulder.
I've been recommending Stop Making Sense since seeing it with my buddy Chuck at the Regina Public Library back in about '93! A brilliant musical and visual journey! ✨️ 👏 ❤️ Chuck's home brewed apple cider went well with it! ✌️😂👌
In the mid-eighties I biked to a theatre in my hometown Honolulu, HI. When I tried to buy a ticket for “Stop Making Sense.” The cashier warned me that the movie was a CONCERT not a regular movie. I said “Yeahh?!” She said a lot of people got angry and wanted their money back. Oh-Vey!!
David Byrne this is really cool 😎 and like every musician,he's a legend I loved the Tom Tom Club , my youth with a somebody else's boombox blaring, amazing 😻
I know that Craig Reynolds is the drummer this week, but what a squandered opportunity to have David Byrne show off his Fred Armisen impression. "So, I'm working on a award show for bicycles, but we're concerned for the safety of the riders if they have Nobel"
Not to be the negative voice here, but Mark Knopfler painted the Imelda picture decades ago. "Golden Heart" is the album. I appreciate Byrne's early songwriting, but his treatment of his former colleagues speaks volumes (no pun intended).
I've heard the sad stories, but they were all together for the screening of Stop Making Sense at TIFF. Its good they were all together again. I saw Chris and Tina and their son DJing as Tom Tom Club!
It's much more fun to perform music where people are 'actively participating' in the experience--it becomes a shared pleasure rather than a clinical/critical spectator-sport. Give me a revelrous group of sing-along-ers any day and i'll play for hours, but tell me i have to walk into a crowd of quiet, still people and i don't know what to do with myself.
Pffeeww - I'm a bit verklempt after seeing Mr. Byrne. I momentarily got transported back to a local club in 1978. Drugs / Psycho Killer / Take me to the River.
ok so this is horribly random but don't ask, don't get. scrolling up on the thumbnail just now, Mr. Byrne's hair made me think of Aziraphale in Good Omens.... please book Michael Sheen whenever the SAG strike ends Seth, you have no idea how much it would mean.
Why is David Byrne the sexiest mofo on the planet. Weirdly, I did not know he was from Talking Heads, discovered him on that album he did with St. Vincent I had heard of Talking Heads! Just never put it together. I need to go actually listen to their music. XD
This is called participatory performance art, where the audience becomes a part of the art object. I know this because I went to art school. Now I work in corporate amurica and want to die.
I'm not looking to get serial killed or anything, but if somebody in Washington state wants to just 'lightly abduct' me, I'd really love to go see Stop Making Sense in the theatre. (No Ted Bundys plz!)
Nope. Bc neither thing happened. Consider not allowing yourself to be so influenced by patently obvious, aggressive, negative, paid-for political PR blitzes.
Mr Seth good day to you and love to you and don't forget that this is the day that the Lord has made and we should rejoice and be glad in it, take care.

All his interviews just make me think he's autistic (which is cool to me! :) )
american utopia was both wonderful and a spike lee joint
love the psycho killer reference in this haha
He’s autistic, and a genius. Anything Dave wants to do is ok with me.

I was there, I saw it, Greek Theater Berkeley
Back when it came out, friend Donna and I danced through the entire movie up in the balcony of The Castro Theatre, where I then worked. It was utterly fantastic!

Ahh, the Greek Theater-I saw so many great musicians there, including my absolute fave, Joni Mitchell-it’s such a great venue!
Without a doubt, Stop Making Sense is the best concert film I've ever seen. Wonderful.
I saw David Byrne live at a small theater in Connecticut and it was as excellent and amazing as it could have been.
We love David Byrne
20+ years ago I saw Bjork at Radio City Music Hall and to my delight as we were filing out I saw him unlock his bike and ride away!
He’s such a pure delight
I've seen this!! saw it in 2014/2015 when I was in college and I can't recommend it highly enough, it's one of the most unique and interesting shows I've ever seen

Filipinos have a history of INCREDIBLE singing. ❤ Awesome idea for a show.
Here Lies Love is the best theatre experience I've had in New York all year! I've seen it twice and honestly don't mind going again. Highly recommend!
Long Live David Byrne

Saw it in Eugene Oregon 83
Yes! Great description! I was there too and it was my first and best rock show ever🎉🎉
Saw Talking Heads December 8, 1983 at Long Beach Arena. One of my top 3 concerts ever
Love David Byrne ❤️

How do I donate some years of my life to David Byrne
I love this. So sweet. 🫶😘
David Byrne this is really cool 😎 and like every musician,he's a legend I loved the Tom Tom Club , my youth with a somebody else's boombox blaring, amazing 😻
The first and best rock show I went to! How lucky was I ?!?! Epic show
Amazing interview 🫶♥️
Thank you. Brynes has been a lifelong inspiration. I too prefer to live on two wheels powered by human heels....
“i googled that up” lol
You're incredible!
I know that Craig Reynolds is the drummer this week, but what a squandered opportunity to have David Byrne show off his Fred Armisen impression. "So, I'm working on a award show for bicycles, but we're concerned for the safety of the riders if they have Nobel"
So glad you talked about bikes!
wow. thanks for sharing
Excellent!
My town has a huge Fillipino population. I want to do tbis pllay inmy town! It would vo lver so well in Alaska

SO cool that the's another broadway production about her. Going to look that up!! Thanks.

Hi David! 😊
How did I get here?
Where are you?
Same as it ever was.
THERE IS WATER
AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN!
On the road to nowhere?
...This is not My Beautiful House!...

you can escape it, follow your passion my friend
9:10 gotta learn when to be quiet and let the genius speak
I find it so odd to see David Byrne smiling. 😳
:15 Flesh for Lulu for his walk-on? This guy has put out some amazing music, why not play something by him, his collabs or the Talking Heads?
I'm not looking to get serial killed or anything, but if somebody in Washington state wants to just 'lightly abduct' me, I'd really love to go see Stop Making Sense in the theatre.
(No Ted Bundys plz!)
Kashogi was a murdered journalist. Am I missing something?
His uncle Adnan the international arms dealer
Never speaks about being Scottish
…..any questions about union busting and glorifying dictators? I mean-that is why he films in Texas
Nope. Bc neither thing happened. Consider not allowing yourself to be so influenced by patently obvious, aggressive, negative, paid-for political PR blitzes.
i feel like a total bonehead. not sure why, but for some reason i always thought david byre was british.
He was born in Scotland but raised in Ontario and Maryland.
Mr Seth good day to you and love to you and don't forget that this is the day that the Lord has made and we should rejoice and be glad in it, take care.
