- I've been riding several 29", 27.5" and 26" wheels on mountain bikes and I just don't see any advantage of the "big wheel". I'm not saying they don't make sense, but I am definitely saying this: if you have a decent, old mountain bikes, don't buy a new one thinking you're gonna be faster. That's it!
Bike on this video is the @MERIDABIKES-INT Ninety-Six from 2014. Развлечения
Wheels made no real difference, he was just faster than they were.
Exactly! This video makes no sense. All i see is a dude trying to be faster than the others.
I'm pretty sure wheels do make a difference.
@@dannyphantom121 Explain a little bit... In what situations...
I didn't see any numbers flashing on the riders he was passing to indicate their wheel sizes. He may as well have been comparing the color of socks and attributing that to more speed.
That's not wheels, that's skills
I always love to hear good news from 27.5 riders, as I am one of them...
You should see me on my 26".
Agreed! Us still riding our 26ers are the real goats
Sounds like "Pivooot!"
Is he riding a 27,5? It is not clear. :D
Stop asking meaningful questions. Just watch 😂
Love to see the RS1 fork in action. Fantastic stuff.
Legs are important😊
I'd say technique is the key.
I love my 27.5 but my 29 is undoubtedly faster
sellin people on 29ers was just a way to boost sales... BRING BACK 26s!!
29ers are great for tall people
@@Windows350 wheel size doesn’t make a diff tbh, more about the ride. Frame size matters more
@@Colg555 im owning a 26er and a 29er with both same frame size. the 29er feels way better sized for me. im sure other ppl could see that diffferent, but i love 29ers
@@Windows350 what year is the 26? Frame geo has come a long way and not many companies go for the 26. Bigger enduro bikes are usually 27.5, I tried em all, and found a 27.5+ wheel to be perfect for me, but they all felt rightly sized.
@@Colg555 way too old to compare, youre right.
Without more evidence, we can’t conclude that 27.5” wheels are faster than 29”.
Yeah, he might be going crazy while everybody else is enjoying the ride.
But which one is which?
he's riding on 27.5
Descending is more about confidence with your bike handling skills. The size of the wheels has nothing to do with it. The fewer risk you take, the less likely you are to crash on a bike.
So if you descend faster without braking, the higher the chances of you crashing. If you don’t possess the bike handling skills to go with it.
And lower of center of gravity will give you more confidence, not here to negate your point, here to expand it :)
It depends on the rider… don’t be such a sucker to marketing….
You won a race in your 26er.
Sounds like Ross, "Pivot, pivot!"
Levá, Pravá. Means Left and Right in Czech
I like my 29s 😊
nothing in this is remotely difficult or fast. this is a ton of novice riders on a dirt road. lol
Mullet bike for the win, 29'er front wheel and 27.5-inch rear wheel, rock the best!
😂 Actually I have been thinking hard on doing that with my 27.5. I like how the 29 can easily go over curbs and bumpy terrain but the 27.5 is a little easier to lug around in a vehicle and in a camper!
Lewa,prawa...dawaj środkiem. Lol
On what wheelset are you?
All this shows is a frech guy who has mt biking skills passing a bunch of roadies who can't ride off road. Has nothing to do with wheel size
nothing technical enough to challenge any transplanted roadie.
No….rider experience(bike handling) is key.
Лево-право, лево-право. Даже мне понятно. Уступал дорогу сидя на стуле перед компом)
27,5 WIDE TIRES VS 29 2,2MAYBE IN THAT WET
Is he saying "left" and "right" ? 🤔
yes
what is the language he was speaking
@@unixplus poland
@MaksXYmilian Poland is a country not a language 🤣
I think he’s just saying “ passing” but Yoo I would be crancked because some spots are sketchy where he’s trying to pass people. Like wait just a second and you can pass safely.
27.5
I love my 27.5 but I think Geo numbers make the biggest difference on descents
You can clearly see by the bike movements that the cadence is much higher than the other riders. So... What does this prove exactly? That more effort and better technique = more speed? 🤷🏻♂️
I don’t do this so this is a serious question: are they racing or just like riding so close to make accidents more likely? Seriously, I am an old person and I kept waiting for several bike pile up.
That’s turbo mode 😂
History comes full circle. Riding a bi-cycle (QU-AX Gentleman Bike) will soon be fashionable and you will prove how great it is.
I just don't get what he is doing. Is he comparing wheels, bikes, tyres, or himself with the others 🤔
It shows with what ease it overtakes cyclists on 29" wheels on a rough road.
@@maksxymilian713 27.5s don't overtake 29ers with ease, bro. If they did, pro XC racers would ride 27.5s, not 29ers.
It’s hard to tell the difference because the rider on the 29 is way more aggressive than the more sane riders he is passing on the muddy day.
No mudguards ..
niner all day long!
Are you on electric?
how long is your stem?
26x2.30 all day long with a good front and rear suspension adjustment. Cant stop this one.😂
Good
From the fact that on the bumpy section (given that you are not pedalling) you are faster than the other riders I assume that you are the one on the 29er, because of the ability of the 29’ to get slowed down less by big rocks
That's a decent deduction 👍🏻
I'll smoke y'all with my penny farthing.
Nice
Good terrain for 27.5. Not technical enough for the. 29ers to shine
Who was on the 27.5?
29,s are just too big in wooded area,s 26 is perfect why change what is already great now most mountain bikes are 29. il stick with my spesh camber 26
Strava=Right??
Leva prava like doge bark
🚨 High poster alert 🚨
No idea what this is supposed to prove because it proves absolutely nothing.😂
Mullet, best of both
Why is everyone wearing spandex?
I just bought a bike with 27.5wheels and I regret it, on descent, it was actually very dangerous, front wheel was moving right and left in the mud, very hard to control it, while 29 would have been much safer, plus tyre size on 29 is usually 2.4,instead 2.2 on 27.5
Default tyre width depends on the kind of bike. 2.2 may be common for XC.
Лева , права, все понятно))
it's the Indian, not the arrow.
Not 2 bad
26 is and was the best
Then why does Motocross has small diameter wheels🤔🤔🤔
Whats the difference? How it feels?
29er is faster. The larger wheel means they have a gentler attack angle, so the bike rolls over obstacles easier (thus losing less momentum). That's why he's blowing by them on the downhill; his bike is able to carry more momentum.
He's racing XC in this video, and if you look at any pro XC racer, they ride 29ers. There just isn't any competing with the speed they offer both uphill and downhill.
My first bike was a 26er. A year later, I bought a 29er. On my FIRST RIDE, even being overly cautious because it was a bigger bike and I wasn't hammering hard, I still slayed my previous Strava times --- some segments got four to six minutes lopped off. By the time I was comfortable riding it, my times were 10 to 15 minutes faster than what I'd done on the 26er.
ADDENDUM:
I've raced XC for several years, and one thing I will say is this: it IS possible to be competitive against 29ers if you're on a 26 or 27.5 --- the "catch" is that you better be in damn good physical shape, because you'll have to work several times harder to match a 29er's speed.
A lady I know swears by 26ers and always beats herself up for getting dusted by other female riders in her group. I've told her repeatedly -- GET A 29ER. You can train every day, all day, for a whole year. On race day, you'll still be struggling to keep up with 29ers. Meanwhile, they'll be casually chugging along.
This is why road bikes use 29" wheels, not 26" or 27.5". Larger wheel = faster bike.
@@sixstanger00 are you in the same fitness with both 26 vs 29? 26 will be lighter but 29 will roll through obstacles more easily right? How about in smooth tarmac or light dirt road since it has minimal obstacles, So both wheels will roll kinda the same right?
@@farikkun1841
*_are you in the same fitness with both 26 vs 29?_*
At the time I got my 29er, I wasn't racing XC yet. So yes, my fitness level was the same. My first ride on my 29er after going from the 26 felt like riding a magic carpet.
*_ 26 will be lighter_*
Not necessarily. My 26" was a steel frame, rim brakes, & 6-speed cassette and weighed a chunky 39 lbs. My 29er is an aluminum frame, hydraulic disc brakes, 8-speed cassette, with tubeless tires and it weighs 29 lbs. My road bike is all carbon, and weighs only 19 lbs (despite also having 700cc wheels).
*_but 29 will roll through obstacles more easily right?_*
Yes. GMBN has done videos on the science behind 29er wheels, and there are other videos on YT explaining why and how they roll faster and easier over obstacles.
Think of it like this:
Suppose you had a block of wood like a railroad tie?
Now suppose you had a wheel that was the same height as the block of wood. Instead of rolling OVER the block, this wheel would be *_stopped_* by the block, because it's attack angle is 100%; the first part of the wheel to contact the obstacle is at zero degrees relative to the wood.
Now suppose you had a wheel the size of a large earth mover? (one of those massive dump trucks). This wheel is tens of times taller than the block of wood, so even without any applied power, a certain amount of inertia would still carry the wheel OVER the wood, because the attack angle is now much, much lower.
This same logic applies to bicycle wheels.
*_ How about in smooth tarmac or light dirt road since it has minimal obstacles,_*
A 29er is still going to be faster on these surfaces, due to _linear velocities._ You've probably heard of this phenomenon before. It's where the outside of a circle must move faster to cover the same distance as the inside. Since the inner/outer of bike wheels are fixed, this means that the outer diameter *_must_* move faster to keep up with how fast the inner diameter is spinning on the hub.
The smaller the diameter of the wheel, the slower the outside has to spin to keep up. Thus, if you could measure 26" and 29" wheel speeds at the hub and synchronize them, the 29er's outer diameter speed is going to be faster than the 26ers, because it's outside is having to move faster to compensate for the wider diameter.
Thus, a 29er will cover greater distance in a given time frame, even if it's hub speed is the same as the 26ers.
@@sixstanger00 wow such detailed and comprehensive answer for a random stranger. You convinced me to try 29er. Idk about height tho cuz I'm just 160cm. I have 700c road bike and 26 MTB. Seeing 29 on the street it looks cool and bigger wheel seems more intimidating in good way

Your peddling your guts out they aint
He keep’s saying 29er in French to let them know who is coming through.
What I hear is "left" ("leva") and "right" ("prava")
- indicating which side he is overtaking. (Speaking Polish, probably).
he complains about everybody's grammar as he past them, but they didn't even say anything.
There's no relevance & no evidence whatsoever in this clip
He is speaking in polish. He keeps saying I’m driving on left I’m driving on right like his telling other cyclists to move out the way
If you think that's funny try a BMX bike on a dry downhill, 20in scream
This is strange and misleading. Wheel size has NOTHING to do that he overtake other riders here; he has just better physics. Bigger wheels give a bit better "roll over obstacle properties" and might role a bit better but at the same time creates a resistance in handling in tight cornering and freedom of movement when in the air; in short when riding fast downhill in a skillful fast maner. During boring XC racing as this when there are super easy trails no one has a and advantage based on wheel size.
Talking wheels- for me too noisy .
