I could ride clips and straps... friction shifting is no problem. the gears these guys had were tough but I rode them once and could again... steel bikes (especially the one here in 753 still are great) BUT I would NOT wear wool shorts. A literal pain the a@@. These guys at least had lycra shorts. Wool jerseys but lycra shorts.
'tis supplanted. You have Reynolds 853, Columbus Spirit ( if your under 90 kilo's), and my fave Deddachia Zero replica as clearly superior steels to choose from now. Or if pockets are steeper, Reynolds 931 stainless.
Now days, the high price of frames and kit precludes the strong boys from competing. Dandies and fancies are what we're left with. Group rides are not like the 70s and 80s.
Great upload. Glad of the opportunity to see an old doc like this.
I realize I am quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to stream newly released tv shows online ?
Americans never get to see cycling videos this old in English, very rare Brit videos on occasion👍
Before the days of the "Compact Chainset" .. Different climbing technique . like brute strength was needed.. :).
Compact chainsets were made for the epo generation. More vo2.

Wearing short, by today's standards, wool Kucharik shorts was not the worst. Dad catching you in the bath, shaving your legs...
I love my 531 Team bike. 753? Someday...

You'll get it one day Tim.
The 753s were a tad whippy. IIRC. Gitanes were a delight, with that longer wheelbase option in the Systeme U colors.

Totally agree all we have now are boutique cyclists, the men in black and the boy racers who have never raced
Fairies
That seemed to indicate that Raleigh have threatened you, over your review of their 40th. anniversary TDF bike. Is this what is going on.
