I see a lot of highly sensitive people or empaths in the comments, and I want to quickly give some tips for anyone struggling with taking on others feelings and such. Obviously everyone experiences it differently so my tips might not apply to everyone, but I feel compelled because I think I’ve built up good emotional boundaries over the years. 1) know your limits. If there are certain people that just fill you with their junk, distance yourself. 2) you can’t save anyone. You can only be a light. So don’t jump off the boat after them; you cannot help someone drowning if you’re drowning too. 3) my sisters have anxiety and depression and it’s easy for me to absorb that, especially when I’m tired or worried. In those times I have to imagine a shield blocking their anxiety and depression from reaching me. Those are my main tips, but also know that your empathy is a gift and you can help people if you understand how to keep yourself from drowning. It’s a lifelong journey. God bless and for those quarantined and feeling isolated or morning loved ones, for what it’s worth know that me and my family are praying every day for you. ❤️ Also Nathan you’re incredible and you are one of my little sister’s favorite artists besides NF, TwentyOne Pilots, and Celtic Woman. 😆👌

It took me breaking under the pressure of a toxic school environment in order to find my empathy again. And now I'm no longer a pure empath/hsp. I have a defence mechanism that is a logical, chaotic, wrathful alter ego that I believe may become a permanent part of my personality. So I try to co-exist with that dark side of mine. I will try to follow your advice, so as to not drown in others' sorrow.

I'm currently in quarantine because one of my relatives may have been infected by the Coronavirus.
I can't either see my parents or live in my home. I sleep with a mask on my face on an old armchair feeling suffocated.
You can't imagine how much your songs are helping me...

Being an empath might seem like a good thing on paper, but there’s so many difficulties that come along with it too. It’s almost like suffering for other people’s mistakes. I’ve even had someone close to me before (not anymore) call me careless because they were going through a lot of emotional pain and I was trying to tell them that I was getting hurt by it too, but they didn’t understand. You can’t even suppress it either, because if you do you become cold and angry. This song was a beautifully worded way of expressing this trait.

I love this song so much, because it's one of the few that actually click with me. I've been an empath all my life, putting others ahead of myself. I still do that. I've actually kind of lost myself, because now my emotions are so repressed I can barely feel them. So I want any other people like me to keep in mind, not everyone wants or can be saved. Today I want to thank you, Nathan, more than ever.
Some time ago very terrible big things happened to a beautiful human being. Не was always trying to give much love to a lot of people around him and make this world a better place in a whole. But he was hurt by the very people he loved so much. He was really misunderstood and treated unfairly.
I'm so worried about him now, sometimes I can't even sleep because of it... I feel his pain like it's my own. I hate the world because that person didn't deserve this. I often think about everything that he had to get through... It almost drives me crazy.
And the funny thing is... that person actually doesn't know me. We never met personally. It's so fooiish. I should think about my own life but I continue to experience the pain of the man who probably doesn't even know about my existence...
So I truly feel this song. I don't know so far if I should consider my excessive empathy as a curse or as a gift... In any case, thank you for helping me with sorting out my thoughts a bit. At least I feel that I'm not alone. By the way, you also help me to cry some pain out from my chest. I feel much better now.

I commented a few weeks on alchemist about how I was an empath and this honestly hit deep because I feel all these things every day, when you responded back it was nice to know i wasn't the only one, to be honest i never talk about how im an empath because i feel like people would see me as some kinda attention seeker but in reality it hurts botteling up all my feelings and emotions because I'm constantly feeling other people's sadness and loneliness and after an argument I'll just forget whatever they said to me and think about gow i made that person feel and how they don't deserver it it's just a struggle but it's nice to know im not alone, tha ks for this song hopefully I can cope with all this someday

wow this is amazing, I love empaths, they're too good for this world. They feel so much that it damages them. They suck in the heaviness of others' problems and feel it pierce through their heart without even meaning it to. They get taken advantage of by the toxicness of this world that don't really deserve their warmth.

One of my comments asked "How do you deal with being an Empath?" and I wanted to have some deep profound response but I realized I can barely even cope with it. So the empath idea had been on my mind a ton. About a week later I found out someone very close and dear to me was struggling with real bad depression and I couldn't help but carry it myself. Finally I was just sick of it so I sat on a piano and wrote this.

My tired soul needed to hear this song.
Being an empath is one of the hardest of missions for Earth Angels. Saddest part is that most of the time we have to do our own healing alone. Total reclusion to empty the foreign voices and feelings. Only alone we can trust that what we're feeling truly belongs to our essence. Alone we face our shadows and then we look to the moon and ask for Divine grace to take a way the pain. Then once we feel whole again we go back to help the others, because at the end if we don't assist the others we feel without purpose, we truly feel dead inside. So even if it's tiring we keep this cycle... But deep down my soul knows that I wouldn't change a thing, because I rather feel it all than feel nothing at all.. Again, thanks Nathan!🙏💜

Being an empath is both a blessing and a curse. To feel what someone else is feeling, to see emotions, and hear what's not said is the biggest gift anyone can be given and I wouldn't trade mine for the world. At times it can be overwhelming so it is ok to be alone.

Oof, that line "ask the world I can't say 'no'". I am terrible at saying no to things people ask me, and it had me on the edge of a break down quite recently. I'm slowly learning that it's not selfish to take time to rest by myself, or say no to something. Because if I did break down, then I wouldn't be able to help anyone!

Thankyou Nathan what a beautiful inspiring emotional song. I’m too an empath , if I was in a better place maybe I could help empaths more, I’ve been an empath since birth I didn’t practice or anything to be who I am.
When you’d take someone’s place in their grave, when you feel like you share your breath. When you don’t know who you save, when you feel so weak but your so strong to the point you break.
When you take the dark from the world and all they do is use your mistakes.
It’s a dark world and will take a lot of light to repair this damage but it’s definitely more than possible.
I know I’m strong enough to do this, I know I will be always here in spirit. We gotta lift each other up , build each other up for empaths this is a hard challenge we build others up while we crumble and resurrect walls. We carry all the light that we share with others. I’ll never forget I was taken advantage of , but I will always love them : because deep down I understand, god told me why .
I come from a very special place in colour , and god told me I’m strong enough to do this for everyone. He kept me alive when I nearly died last week after a suicide attempt. God is keeping me so strong he wants me to do good until the end for others. And that I accept I will do. If only you would take my hand, I wouldn’t hurt you. Let’s leave this pain behind we are able to do amazing things . More than any other human being could ever understand. We are our own source of light. My whole life I’ve been knocking down and repairing walls, it’s my illness that has become my wellness . I made friends with my past, forgave my past and loved my future. We share dreams that nobody understands let’s make them happen !!!the world is changing and so are we , it’s unbearable for those who struggle with change or hurt in change, or can’t make friends with change .
I’m a 24 year old girl who can’t make friends with change, at the moment I’m beginning to except change and hopefully one day embrace it . Making progress .

I can't wait for the moment for each one of you have that amazing epiphany when it all starts to make sense. The day that you finally understood that you belong here and you have a much greater purpose that you were born to help humanity. The day that you decide that all of those people who told you that you didn't matter and shushed your voice into silence and you went along with what they were telling you to think, believe and feel and you did because you wanted them to love you and except you. There aren't as many empaths who make it as far as you have without falling into line with beliefs that you are told you should have completely abandoning everything you once knew and felt as a child. So the very fact that you are an empath who has made it this far and still connects to other people's emotional pains.... you were also probably constantly told growing up being told that you are too sensitive as if caring and feeling for others is a character flaw... you are not the one with the problem! You stayed true and connected to your soul because you are much stronger than people have convinced you that you are. It's much easier to just fall into the assembly line religious leaders and government leaders needed in order to create so that the people truly believe is necessary but it was put in place to line the pockets of the rich and give power over people who believe that it's God's will. I can't wait until the day you speak up and tell people who you are instead of being told who you need to be for their world to continue to make any sense... use your voice to pick those people up who need a helping hand, use your voice for the right to be treated like a human being as we are all the same and we are all connected to one another despite your nationality, color, financial status, differences... despite everything that people hate others for being.... they are them! You don't belong deep down that dark rabbit hole so please believe it and just look for a pin prick of light up above that rabbit hole and don't take your eyes off from it then watch the light grow more and more. Your songs have always been relatable for me. A few days ago, I had found out I was an empath. I've always known I had this ability to feel other's emotions. I decided to go to a school with zones instead of classrooms where you have more than one class in a very big space. I did that so I wouldn't feel 20-30 people's hatred for the assignment or class in a small class because it overwhelmed me. I had finally looked it up because I wanted to know if it was a thing that people had or if it was just me. It did explain a lot for me like why I'm always tired at school or why I get really high anxiety during lunch. It explains why the ability has grown over the years. Then I found this song when I was listening to lonely. This relates to me and I'm glad that I'm not the only one cause I thought I was going crazy until I accepted the fact that it was always right. Thank you so much for making this song.
