Hey Chris Pratt how about you do best self defense knives or knives with smaller than 3 inch blades which is the cutoff for most states
Can I have the button locks? couldn't afford anything for myself this year just presents for the family, so even a defective knife would be a nice gift to me
The GOODBOY- I received one for free today from Blade HQ when I ordered my Demko Shark Cub. I rolled my eyes because of the multiple failures you experienced. I was thinking they're dumping inventory and shipping out unsafe knives for free now. I planned on immediately throwing it in the garbage. BUT- It held strong. Zero Failures for me. Very pleasantly surprised on the quality too. I honestly wish my new MKM Ben Petersen Yipper was finished as nicely as the GOODBOY. The level of fit and finish is truly impressive. My blade is not coated, it's got the satin/stonewash finish and looks great. Maybe the coating has something to do with the failures? Anyway, mine is awesome, and I'm really impressed with it.
That's actually good to hear. Hopefully they've fixed it.
Thanks MC for keeping the community safe. It's not a good boy. It's a bad boy.
Exactly. Bad boy!
Someone at bestech is dreading work tomorrow after sending this knife to you. I do not envy that guy.
Absolutely not interested in a knife that says is fixed when obviously isn’t. Thanks MC!
This is the main reason I don’t buy any button locks that aren’t Civivi/Sencut. There are plenty that catch my eye but the sheer amount of knives I’ve seen from multiple companies that can’t handle a smack are staggering. With all these videos being posted how do the companies not know to test it before mass production.
I agree but I believe you can trust CJRB , I have a couple frags and pyrites 0 issues on lockup not even blade play
Pyrite by CJRB (I own og small one drop point model) is absolutely solid civivi/sencut perfectly fine also
Thirding Artisan/CJRB. I have not seen a single one of their button locks fail, either in person or in any video yet. I consider them just as good-to-go as anything.
Kizer and cjrb do good button/plunge locks
The only brand of vutton lock that has failed for me is Vosteed. The valkyrie. I have Kansept, cjrb, we, civivi button locks and they are all solid!
That’s weird. I‘ve neither had any issues with the Thunderbird nor with the Goodboy.
Surprising to see a bestech fail so miserably. I have had great luck with that company but that one really didn't appeal to me. A fellow knife enthusiast I know just ordered one. Hopefully he has better luck with it.
I had lock failure on my glok model wouldn’t lock up out of the box!! You can tighten the pivot and usually solve the lock failure!!
No!!! Don't want to believe Bestech has the potential to fail!!! My Good Boy passes the spine whack test, but I have a Raccoon that fails. Time to admit that button locks are a bit tricky to get right.
That is so odd. I have purchased and tested three Goodboys. None have failed.
I don't know what is happening with your knives, like you I may not have much faith. But mine have not failed.
This whole issue has soured me on button locks in general. It's an issue that at least a few high quality knife companies have experienced. It would seem that some button lock designs don't translate into production consistently. Good job MC!
I have yet to see a CJRB fail, thankfully.
This Bestech failing shouldn't make you write off other button locks with real quality behind it. High quality ones can fail too, but they need such a ridiculous circumstance to fail that you'd most likely never get into a situation where it can fail.
Plenty don't fail and will be strong enough for any reasonable cutting task you need.
The button/plunge lock is still fairly news and really only took off this year. So yeah, there are going to specific design, material and production kinks to work out. As others have mentioned Civivi and CJRB seems to have put some decent R&D into theirs and do them right.
My Spyderco slip joint (🇬🇧) genuinely can take more pressure on the back of the blade than that button 'lock'. And it won't cut me when it closes. 😬
Manufacturing could definitely be the problem. As could the design. The principle of button locks is more or less the same, but can also vary slightly between the different knife models because of the difference in overall shape of the blade and handle. But that's mostly common sense. What isn't, is the fact that from time to time the design doesn't transfer so smoothly from schematics to production, and the heads of production make small corrections to the design of the knife without notifying anyone about the seemingly negligible modification to the knife.
I'm ot saying that's what happened here. Only suggesting one possibility about a particular knife being produced by a company with a stellar reputation for producing top quality, premium, mid-level, and budget knives.
Did they not test it before sending it?
obviously not
As a viewer we hope that these companies take a knife off the shelf and throw it in a box without any shenanigans as it allows the general consumer to have a true expectation of the product
So ... did Bestech say they fixed the problem for future knives ... or going to pull this entire model lot off the market (recall)?
Don’t hold your breath. Same as the failure to return to battery with the canik mc9. Just keep selling it and pay RUclipsrs to lie about it. Luckily our friend MC isn’t the type to be bought!
Nice review, when was the unboxing? I’m getting bored with crossbar and button locks.
Cjrb and cvivi (and their sister conpanies WE and AC) are literally the only companies ive had 0 issues with button locks.
kizer?
@@WhuDhat don't have enough Kizers to personally say for sure I own like 1 or 2 that have both been good tho
My Civivi Incisor Karambit and Elementum button locks are literally the most solid button locks I’ve ever seen and owned .. you’d have to smash it with a hammer 🔨 to break it probably 😂
I've had two different cjrb's with issues
@@WhuDhat I've seen a Begleiter XL fail a very light spine whack. Mine doesn't. However, the button on it is terribly designed in other ways. It's too tall and poorly guarded (sticks out too much), and in the way of the natural ergonomic lines, making some common gripping styles a no-go.
I don't completely trust button locks because they seem to be very hit or miss though my Mordax is great, i dont know what it is lately but my liner lock Moyarl fails and my MSI, maybe i just have bad luck
Same problem Metal, Failed on use. Second one been ok. 👍
It’s been a Bad Boy
Thank you for saying "Don't buy this". I appreciate you not holding back this time. You are more than generous with mechanical failures. 3 strikes is too many.
The Good boy is a Bad boy
LOL. The sent me a tan Glok for review and the moment i opened it... Boom button exploded outta housing.
They're like "we'll replace it please don't review that one"
Sly smile from the liner-lock guy at Bestech 😏
Not sure about you guys but if I ran a company and had a product fail, especially if it could put my customers in danger, better believe that thing would not fail twice let alone three times. Insane
Bestech has screwed the pooch in the good boy. They need to take notes from civivi and cjrb on how to make a reliable, SAFE button lock. This is making them look terrible.
I’ve been watching your channel for several years now and I’m just curious if you have ever said your actual name in a video before? Wasn’t sure if I just missed it somehow or if you are just keeping it private.
The best sprints are by the knife joker. Why dont you mention them too?
I love the blade shape on the middle one, but it us a push button like the good boy. A bit reluctant
That's crazy. 3 times their out. Lol thanks MC
Thanks for the tests, .
Kinda ironic you’re more likely to get bit by “The Good Boy”. Love the gauntlet though! Great addition to the channel
They probably named it ironically like you would name your fat cat slinky or or the 6'4 guy in the gang with the nickname short stack.
Thank You MC for the great reviews ..Merry Christmas
A gauntlet knife. It's great to use as long as you have your handy steel gauntlet.
Dang. MC usually really positive, but he’s over this one. Gotta call ‘em like you see ‘em.
I like that one with the crossbar lock though.
My vosteed corgi locked up and broke😢
It like vosteed button locks all over again lol
Doh. These are going really cheap at BladeHQ but I still haven't pulled the trigger.
They gave me one with another purchase.
How have they not figured it out yet? Why wouldnt they test it themselves before sending it? ???
Screw it. All of the Chinese OEMs should switch over to button actuated liner locks.
It’s like nuking a site from orbit… it’s the only way to be sure.
Wow that’s mind blowing. How did it fail again?!
It’s a button lock that identifies as a slip joint.
Cjrb, civivi, and kizer have been solid on everything for me so far, thankfully
You would think they would just give up by now!! LoL
Happy Holidays MC ❤ 👍🏻
for those who know the drill he actually starts opening the box at 1 minute
1:00 is a prime out of context quote
Honestly, it would be kinda fun content if they sent you 10 of them and you made a short testing them... Paired with the Benny hills meme song.
Feels like it should be a slip joint.
I really like the blade shape of the Glok.
Are you listening, Santa?
Bad boy! Bad boy!! Sit! 😅
STRIKE 3, YOU'RE OUTTA HERE!
Good catch mc.. also still waiting on meral card for the slap!
I was just going to order it in teal..
Nope.
Dude... Its like they are just telling someone to keep sending you different colors and have no idea that the issue is even with the button lock. Bestech makes some awesome stuff but I just dont get their angle here.
Goodboy.... more like badboy.... lol
Good boy...not so much!
My Goodboy passes the wack test with flying colors. I really like it and the Ronan and mini Dundee also.
Oh.. ..that's not good...Bestech has a decent reputation for the most part....and this is a DANGEROUS issue
They need to study Civivi and WE, they have the button lock down.
Bestech and the Eagles have something in common. They're both 0-3 🤣
Good boy? Naaah that's a bad boy, and one I definitely won't be buying.
Thanks MC
Yikes, that's not a good sign when they know you are going to test it and it has the same damn problem.
How did you know they didn’t change anything but they said they had??? Or were you saying that for a personal look at me moment?
How funny you learned from that guy with the leather glove but really why would you ever have pressure on a knife that way?
If you use your knife on a daily basis, shit happens. The blade gets stuck on something and you need to "wiggle" it out, or it something drops on it when you're using it, or something like that.
If that causes the lock to fail and you don't notice, that causes a dangerous situation.
Truly sad. Everything looks great with the knife, just sad they blade can't lock open
Don't own any Bestech, but can anyone provide a real life scenario where the lock is subjected to these forces? Having used folding knives for more than 50 years I can't. So what is the purpose of this test?
There is no purpose to the test. It's completely useless because this is not how you use a knife.
I suppose it has one "purpose" and it's brute-forcing the structural integrity of the knife. Sure, okay.
If you want to look stupid by using your knife like a hammer, have at it. Don't get me wrong though. I want a properly locking knife like everyone else, but I also think you will look like an idiot for improperly using a knife and then declaring that it somehow means something.
Heck, people treat fixed blades better than some folders and they're the only type of knife that you could argue to be used in a highly abusive manner without breaking.
Accidents can happen. You could move your hand and bump into something you didn't see. He isn't hitting it hard. I can hit the spine on all my button locks harder than he does and they don't fail
@@P.W.R. um....accidents? Examples like dropping it, bumping it? That type of scenario obviously. So of course the button lock needs to be able to handle some abuse but not designed for batoning it. Also speaking of fix blades being better than folding knives, one folding knife can actually act like a fix blade. And that's the tri ad lock from cold steel knives. Yeah good luck breaking that by batoning it hard on heavy logs.
@dommorris8163 you're 10000x more likely to accidentally push that button than you are to be waving it around blindly, whacking it "accidentally" repeatedly on some unseen object. I'm asking for real life scenarios.
@@bruceevans8837moving your hand and not be perfectly aware of what might be in the way is a very realistic scenario. You might be some paragon of spatial awareness of your surroundings, but most of us are humans and aren't capable of such perfection.
That's a first. Negative comment from you. It seems like every knife you see is just awesome!!!
Lol. You've missed a lot of content...
Shame, the good boys not a bad looking knife either
Sucks because it reminds me of the benchmade anthem and looks great. Not safe to use tho
The Good Boy is Not so good.
Hey guys!
Who uses a knife like that though? I have never understood the purpose of that test.
I could see cutting boxes or material when you stab in to start a cut but let's say you get stuck in something like a staple or whatever and try to wiggle the knife out.
10 on the slap
Nah it's a *BAD BOY*
Great video
I get the lock failed, but what are you doing with your button lock to cause that much pressure on the spine? Use the appropriate tool for the job. let the hate begin
I mean I say this too lol
Wow.
what a shame that is a good looking knife
*sad trombone*
Sad trombone with wet meat loaf stuffed inside*
It feels a bit like there's too much attention on spine whacking these days. I can't imagine replicating a situation during normal use that would ever put that kind of shock/stress on a knife.
It's a durability test. It's like seeing a handgun explode due to overpressure ammunition - and some smartass always says "well don't use +P" like that's an excuse. Quality control should ensure that the product can withstand certain parameters, and this knife does not accomplish that.
I still can't fathom a circumstance in which a folding knife that is being used properly as a tool, would result in that kind of shock, and therefore injury to the user. I'm more interested in tests that are within the range of proper use. If you include misuse, then anything is fair test. A handgun withstanding explosive rounds is well within the parameters of normal use.
Age old argument. Decades. The same question is asked, and the same answer given. No use in discussing it. If it isn't a valuable test to you, ignore it. Over time, a significant number of people in the community consider a light spine tap valid in terms of testing the lock strength. That's enough to warrant the test. Not everyone needs to be convinced. Expect to continue seeing this test on various channels.
@@metal_complex I've been following you for a long time, and love your content. I'm sorry if my opinion has bothered anyone. I would never suggest you do anything differently. I was simply stating reasons why I feel the way I do about it.
@@S8NSAYSI don't think your opinion bothered anyone. These are just responses to a statement.
Hopefully see that model discontinued shortly😂 I'm gunshy of button locks in general now. Which sucks because the new Chevalier with stainless Damascus looks badass
It's a bad design anyways. super basic with a simply bad design from the handle into the spine of the knife. Cogent did it too but not as bad as this.
The design is fine. You're describing an aesthetic preference. The geometry of the plunge lock is the only objectively bad thing here
@@metal_complex not aesthetic to me, every knife I've held with a messy spine to handle transition make the ergos for the thumb just sad.
For example, the Benchmade 940 or the Orion Solaris.
Yeah I guess it's subjective, but I don't know how someone can think that is comfortable or a good design choice.
@TorlingJarl right. It's subjective. It's fine though. Like what you like 👍
That's not good. Poor at best.
Another paid review.
🇦🇺👍🏼
Ironic that Bestech calls that model the "Goodboy!" 🤣
Bad boy. Bad, bad boy. 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶, 𝘔.𝘊.𝘛𝘩𝘦 “𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘉𝘰𝘺“ 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘉𝘢𝘥 𝘉𝘰𝘺.
Thanks
That Sucks … it’s wonky like the Gripper that started LockGate that went back 3 times but not as bad …🗑️…#FUNKWONKY …🛹…🐺…🖌
