- Welcome to another video! In October 2022, I took an 8+ hour overnight bus ride from Montreal, Quebec to New York City on Adirondack Trailways. Intercity bus travel in North America is often overlooked since many people are so used to driving or flying to their destinations. However, as you'll see in this video, The bus isn't always so bad! We even lucked out and got a brand new Prevost X3-45 which had just recently entered service! Come along with me aboard Adirondack Trailways Schedule 297, Service from Montreal, Quebec to New York City's Port Authority Bus Terminal!

I'm glad you had a great experience with Trailways. I've driven their routes many times as a rental contractor (they'll rent buses and drivers from other bus companies to provide extra service or cover their shortages). Montreal is definitely one of my favorite runs to operate.
The people at Trailways are great people, and they will always work with you to get you where you're going. They have proven time and time again that they are the most reliable intercity bus carrier in NY state.
When they run multiple buses on that Montreal trip, they definitely run one bus express to NY, and the other will run local, making all stops. If you're looking for an empty seat ask to ride the local as it is typically less crowded.
The biggest x-factor is customs. You can get to the border and there's no buses, and breeze through, or there can be and you have to wait. Then there could be a problem with a passenger entering the country, and that can add more time. I've experienced both the nice breeze through, and several hour delay scenarios.
The bus you rode on is no more than a year old. It's the highest capacity bus they have operated in a long time at 55 passengers. Their older buses only carry 52, and thus have more leg room. As a driver, I haven't driven or rode on a Prevost X3-45, but if it's anything like the bigger H3-45 then it should be a smooth ride with comfortable seating.
I was A ticket agent for Adirondack Trailways for 14 years back in the 90's at the Port Authority.
I liked this. We overlook bus travel but it can my sense at times.

82202 is a year 2020 bus. Correct it's brandnew. Adirondack Trailways is in the process of renewing its fleet to Prevost XModel buses like the one your on here. Driver on this run is Mike Pisarski. Not correct. New to Trailways but purchased secondhand as a low mileage coach. However, all NEW purchases are and will be X3-45s going forward.

Just a bit of history here. The "Pine Tree" logo has always been NYTrailways branding for quite some time now. Pine Hill Trailways was acquired in 1965 and New York Trailways was formed in 1994 after Empire Trailways sold off their line service to Adirondack in order to pay off their debt to them. Empire Trailways ceased operations two years later.
Good ol port authority bus term been traveling by bus to nyc since i was 5yo ..have a family member that operates for peter pan ..must to have made the trip 5k times in last 28 yrs ...nostalgic ...great content ...the prevost x3s/x45s feel like a airplane on wheels

Look! I get it! The bus is the bottom of the food chain as far as public transportaion is concerned, but if you can get a bus like that, and stock up on your food and drink AND have comfortable seats, Oh! and pray you don't have a disruptive or nasty passenger, then it's worth every dime!

I used to drive a tour bus and I often drive from New York to Montreal,it take 6.5-7hour to get there If the canadian custom gets busy takes sometime,returning to u s also sometime mostly has dot inspiration right just passed the custom

I’ve only taken a long (semi long) bus trip three times this was during the time I worked Onboard services with Amtrak I was traveling from Washington DC to Cleveland Ohio two of the stops we made was a 24 hour truck stop/convenience store The convenience stores name is Loves
since the time that you made this trip I think greyhound has actually thrown in the towel on this route as well as all other Canadian routes. if u are going to take the bus these days , going to Canada is one of the more sane trips to take and Trailways seems to be offering good service like Greyhound did once upon a time.. that said, bus trips between certain U.S. cities can be horrific today mostly because of the characters on the bus. while i did a number of long bus trips during the school and college years i think that is behind me now. these days i do take long, Amtrak train trips which are often delayed but like u I am not always in a rush.. taking long trips over land are a good break from the usual, crowded, hectic trips on the plane. what's more, Amtrak too has a lot of new trains and if u have extra bucs on u the roomettes on the train are a cool adventure . (yes, but, unfortunately, some of the new train sets have to be sent back to the manufacturers for certain corrections)
I never been on Trailways when I took Greyhound all the time to Toronto from here in Cleveland I was seen Trailways in Buffalo at the bus station tho
Correction highway in Quebec is 15 which on crossing border takes the 87 number

It's actually Autoroute 15 you take from Montreal to the border, not "Quebec route 87". Interstate 87 beings at the border on the US side.
I am a well seasoned bus rider I have been San Diego to Seattle Seattle to Bangor Maine Bangor to Miami Miami to San Diego Just about every where in between On a Greyhound round trip ticket or a 15 day Ameripass I like the unlimited travel for 15 days
I'm sure those were the days when traveling Greyhound was convenient and pleasurable. I loved riding Greyhound back from the 60s up to the 80s. Now you couldn't pay me to do it. But the fond memories will last forever.

@@o0xst Bwahahahahaha. And from what I read these days Greyhound has turned into another Megabus with almost no terminals, no ticket or customer service agents, and catching the bus at underpasses in the worst neighborhoods. Fugg no and thank you.
Toronto to NYC via Buffalo is the best cause you can take the mega bus I did it from Buffalo to Toronto as part of Greyhound
I have only been to Montreal once That was just to change trains I had to stay overnight in Toronto and New York That is a very long trip from New Orleans I like the Adarondack Trailways buses I ode them New York City to Toronto plenty
Adirondack Trailways was always a friendly and professional company. My first experience riding them was in 1968 on the Oneonta route with German Silver Eagle buses, far nicer than the MCI MC-5's and GM PD-4106's of the era. I am glad they have divorced their code sharing with Greyhouund as they turn themslevs into Flixbus. ADT does not need their foot caught around their anchor.

Interesting, but you're never going to convince me that an overnight bus trip is something I want if there are other options. My last overnight bus was a 22 hour trip in the mid-80s :)
Got you beat. Back in 1999 I did a cross country bus trip from Buffalo to Missoula, MT over an entire weekend. Left Buffalo on GLI at 7:30PM on a Friday and got to Missoula on Rimrock Stages 7:30PM the following Sunday. Wasn't a bad trip at all.
Montreal is a place I've always wanted to go. Quebec is linguistically and culturally another nation within a nation.

Hudson NY is south of Albany.
I'm taking a Greyhound bus 8AM from Montreal to White River Junction Vermont and bought an extra seat next to me for comfort. Only $20 more. Could you have done that on your bus? Would have been great especially for a night bus.
Thanks for your comment! I ended up with an open seat next to me as far as Albany, NY before the bus filled up to near capacity. I don't believe there is an option to buy two seats on Trailways, and I wasn't aware Greyhound had started doing that so thanks for the info!

It’s walking distance! If memory serves me, only a few blocks.
From the Port Authority terminal, you walk out the main entrance, turn left, walk a block-and a half to 42nd Street. Turn right, cross Eighth Avenue and Times Square is one (very long) block away from that point.

Trailways Adirondack and Pine are not as large as Greyhound therefore they spend more time addressing maintenance repairs, engines repairs, exterior damage repairs, and interior cleanliness more than Greyhound does.

Usually just your passport. When I made this trip NYC-MTL (to attend a convention) I carried a copy of my hotel reservation and convention registration, but I was never asked for these. First time crossing into Canada I was interviewed a little bit more, but aside from that fairly routine.
Going into Canada (at least at that particular border crossing) you had to bring all your stuff with you, and then re-load it back on the bus once everyone was processed. Coming back to the US was always less laid-back. Your belongings stayed on the bus and Customs inspected (drug sniffing dogs) the baggage set out alongside the bus, and once processed through, you were matched up with your luggage before re-boarding.

Trailways Coaches are rarely damage, or look beat up like Greyhound. The management at Greyhound are lacking, they don't insists that damage Greyhounds should be reported for repairs, and drivers neglects should be disciplined.
