    First review of this radio on RUclips - Congratulations! Cool looking radio with nice expandability. Personally I would have preferred if they dropped the talk back control and have a dedicated squelch but thats just me. Have you any footage of that s-meter working? I like the traditional Uniden/Cobra type meter but interested to see it in action. Look forward tl any more videos you have planned. 73s Ant 26DR302

      Thank you Ant, its a lovely classic style radio with a mix of the new as well. I don't use talk back or Vox come to think of it. I do like all the essential and frequently used options having their own dial, makes life easier. I did play with the S-meter but the radio was plugged into a dummy load so it was returning 1 all the time and I didn't think anyone would want to see that :-). The digital display is very small but works well and looks great. I guess making it any larger would have ruined the look. I do like the CB500 and the much bigger display is very good for ageing eyes. Got lots to cover in August and think I might look at the Jerry next while I wait for the Washington's cooling fans. All the best and thanks for watching and commenting. 73 MJ7NLK

      @@NLKMediaGroup Review the Washington! :)

    I was very close to getting the QT-40, but I picked up a President Richard for 80 bucks and a Ronald for 90 bucks at our local Ham Fest. I wish the QT-40 had the digital display that this one (CB900) has. Great review my brother across the pond. You Brits are resilient people, stay strong with whats going on.

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  Месяц назад +1

      The President Richard is a fantastic radio and I have covered it on the channel and referenced it in many videos. The Walker 2 (EU Model) is the same radio but CB out of the box rather than Ham for the Richard and they both have the same circuit board. The Richard can often be found cheaper than the Walker which doesnt make sense as when both radios are expanded they are very nearly identical. You can't go wrong with the Richard, it is a lovely radio to use. Now if they would come out with a Richard 2 that also had SSB that would be amazing but the Lincoln 2+ is kind of filling in that space.
      The new digital display on the CB-900 is really nice, a little small for aging eyes, but a really nice addition and keeps the look and feel of this classic style radio. It lacks CTCSS/DCS support but not everyone wants or needs that. The CB-500 is the better choice on a feature level but doesn't have the same old-school visual appeal.
      I have around 20 President radios in the collection but don't have the Ronald. However, I do have the CB version being the Teddy 2.
      The new QT80 looks a beast of a radio and I am looking forward to getting one to test and play with soon. Radioddity have done a great job of bringing some interesting radios to market at decent prices.
      Things in the UK are a little difficult right now with a load more gatherings scheduled today which I very much hope will remain peaceful. Thank you for your kind words. All the best and thanks for commenting. MJ7NLK

      All is well thank you, life just got in the way and my time has been very limited. I have four kids and this last year has been crazy busy. I am setting aside time in August to work through my backlog of reviews. I am very much looking forward to the Jerry and Washington reviews and will be starting on one of them next I think. All the best and thanks for watching, its very much appreciated. MJ7NLK

    Good video! The radio to review next, is the AT-6666 PRO / QT-80. It's the killer radio that even the Washington won't out-perform. I hope you can get one to test. Imagine a CB-500 on steroids. The new QT-60PRO is worth a look as well. Fantastic radios!
    Also, you should show the 3 different meter display modes on the CB-900 PRO. It's probably the most unique (and interesting) thing about this little CB radio. Another thing to mention is that the AT-900PRO is actually the little brother (with less features and less performance) when compared to the AT-500Mii (CB-500). As you saw in your review, the CB-500 is more advanced, with a real dual purpose modes (for CB and HAM) and sensational performance.

      Have added the Anytone AT-6666 Pro / Radioddity QT-80 to my list of radios to source. They have the same power output rating as the Washington, 80W PEP and 50W on FM. Would be interesting to see how similar they are on the inside and what the differences are. Will ask my contact at Radioddity if they can send one out for review but I need to clear the backlog first. I did have a play with the S-Meter but as it was plugged into a dummy load I decided not to include due to it just showing 1 all the time. If I had managed to get out and about with a field test then I would have included. The LCD is small but works well and it looks very similar to the RF Power bar in S-Meter mode. It does get very confusing with multiple companies selling the same radio but I did notice that the AT-900Pro appears to also be available in Black as well as Silver which looks nice. Well there is a picture of a black version on their site. The CB-500 is really great value for money and I really enjoyed using it which is one of the most important things. The CB-900 is much bigger in size (needlessly based on the empty space inside) but out of the two I would pick the CB-500, it really is a great little radio. I very much appreciate your comment and thank you for watching. 73 MJ7NLK

      @@NLKMediaGroup good stuff. Thanks for the reply. Yes I have a CB900 PRO here, and It is indeed a fun radio. Only the silver and black version is available currently. The "all black" version is going to be under a different brand name soon. FYI, The AT6666 Pro actually has one additional final (output transistor) compared to the Washington. So you will see peak power of around, (and usually just) over 100 watts PEP. As well as supporting the 15m ham band as well. (There are many rumours flying around at the Washington and the 6666 Pro are the "same", But they only share a core design). There are many differences between them as I'm sure you will see. I'm looking forward to seeing your upcoming reviews. Keep up the good work! 73

      Yes it does, the Walker 2 EU model / Walker 3 FCC US model do look similar but the Walker is a more capable radio costing twice as much. I do like this style of radio and they have balanced the classic design with some modern LCD bits. It was fun looking at this new model and great to be one of the first to receive and review it. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK

    Definitely needs UK channels in band block normal/expanded.
    As freq readout not an issue
    27.781(don't need 25 at the end)
    I'm sure this can be done in radio firmware 👍
    Lacks ctcss too on FM, bit of a shame.

      @NLKMediaGroup  Месяц назад

      Hi Rob, adding the UK FM 40 would certainly be a great addition even if it was added as a band block in expanded mode. Maybe that will come in later versions. There is no support for tones and codes on the CB-900 and this is where the CB-500 has the advantage and its slighly cheaper. It is a good radio, looks nice and is easy to use, if you only need AM/FM and don't need CTCSS/DCS then its worth consideration but the CB-500 is hard to beat for the money. All the best and thanks for watching and commenting. MJ7NLK

    With the US having FM now we might see fewer multi standard radios. I have been surprised to hear locals here on CEPT FM when they have previously been cgatting on UK channels.

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  Месяц назад +1

      A lot of the US breakers prefer AM and I had quite a few comments when it was legalized in NA questioning why anyone would want to use FM from US viewers. It would be good to have all norms supported on these radios as other countries like Poland and Germany have their own frequencies as well. Maybe breakers are just using the CEPT frequencies now and the country specific bands are falling away and not being used as much. I hope all is well with you Gordon and thanks for watching and commenting. 73 MJ7NLK

      Hi BlueFox, Its a GTA7000 tuner / metronome made by a company called On-Stage. Amazon link here amzn.to/4fRW7IP They are quite cheap and the batteries last for ages. Thanks for watching, all the best MJ7NLK

    Would not this radio be better than the CB500 for switching the pin connector vs cutting the wire? As I'm mostly looking at CB usage since I don't have a ham sandwich 🥪 yet. Also, can you use Morse Code through the unit with a Vibroplex unit, was thinking of some general practice with a friend.

    • @NLKMediaGroup
      @NLKMediaGroup  20 дней назад

      The CB500 is a better all round radio as it provides CTCSS/DCS tones and codes. If your interested in getting your "ham sandwich" :-) then take a look at the QT80 which I have just posted a video on. It can be expanded to cover the 11-Meter CB band, can be modified for CW via a DIY hack to the microphone and has a dedicated CW mode, its powerful and extremely well priced. All the best and thanks for watching and commenting. MJ7NLK

      @@NLKMediaGroup the reason I like the 8900 is the VHF receive band and truckers and loggers use VHF here in western Canada instead of CB radios. I find the VHF receive function very useful to listen to the truckers that are on VHF instead of CB. Truckers stopped using CB back in the early 2000's because of skip interference and Industry Canada (Canada's radio licensing body) made VHF channel's just for truckers and loggers here in British Columbia Canada so that's why I'm intrigued by the new CRT SS 8900.

      Not convinced this would need much paste ...so little output power, I would of considered this radio but it would hardly kick my amp being a HD amp

      Only a little paste is needed, its just to fill the micro dimples in the surface of the metal used for the heatsink. Im sure too much paste has a negative effect
