What a charming gent you are. :) The way you talked to the kitty shows your good nature. I'm glad he assisted you and kept you company! Have safe trails!
Exaggerated by the papers but still a great video of interaction with a friendly creature that made a lot of people's day. Intentionally or not, the cat led him home. Some of us would like to believe it knew what it was doing, nothing wrong with that. Thanks for posting.
Haha, I don't doubt it! We didn't have any pets at the time I was traveling, so I wasn't sure about what they can or cannot eat (also why I was hesitant to pet her!), all I kept thinking about was how dogs aren't allowed to eat chocolate. Funny story though: About a week later after I left Gimmelwald area and got to Bled, Slovenia, I was Skyping with my family back home. Turns out they got a kitten while I was away! So this former clueless backpacker has become a self-confident cat feeder and cat petter!
@@pauldilley8974 - Same here, but moderate amounts of cheese don't give me any trouble, only milk. The bacteria used to make cheese consume most of the lactose anyway.
Originally it was just a video I made while backpacking, to be sent to my family at home. Three years later (so, a week ago) I included it in a comment on reddit (link under video), and I guess it went wild. So, it's unlisted because I make all my family videos unlisted. :)
I kind of think the cat might actually be earning its keep by leading walkers down the mountain to become paying guests at its owners hostel there maybe.
Am I the only one speechless? I mean there's a man with a cat on a clear path that goes through a village.. and hours later the cat became mountain guide. What the actual f**?!
I know, if the cat hadn't been there to rescue him, he clearly couldn't have seen the clear path to the obvious village. You can hear the outright distress and panic in his voice at the beginning, poor lost soul.
Very sweet :) Cats are smart creatures! I know a lot of people are skeptical, but I don't doubt that she was helping you out. Also it's interesting to hear the English interspersed with the Hungarian. This must be what I sound like when I speak Frenchwegian :) (J'étudies français of jeg studerte norsk også et parfois je parles disse to språk sammen, et je l'appelle franskvégian fordi det er fransk i norsk et c'est norvégian en français.)
Honestly the linguistics geek came out of me a bit when watching this video 😂 I was amazed at how you seem to speak Polish natively but sound almost like an American while speaking

Where did you get Polish from? He speaks Hungarian (occasionally with somewhat unusual phrasing, though, it could be a second-generation immigrant or someone who has not used the language on a day-to-day basis in a long while).
I thought this was about a cat who led you down a mountain when you were lost? I didn't see anything of the sort. But never the less, because it had a cat in it, it was cute.
Check out the story in the description! Original story was posted on reddit. This video was towards the middle of the encounter, without the cat I would never have gotten on that path you see us walking on. But description explains a bit better.
Hello, I’m content creator from korea. I’ve seen your videos on internet, and it was fascinating. so I want to introduce your video to Korean netizens and subscribers. Can I use videos on your youtube? I will make derivative works by editing those videos and adding Korean subtitles. Of course I will indicate the source. I will wait for your reply. Thank you!
Unfortunately not, haven't had a chance to go back since. Definitely planning on it, owners contacted me to say the cat is still fraternizing with tourist. Would love to say hi!
Many of you are so cynical. This is a reflection of how many untruths there are out there.Truth is becoming obscured by all the noise. In any event - it is still -a beautiful display of animal and human connection.
Solo Frazier I'm not sure, but they say it is. and that the cat lives in the mountains and often guides people along the road. would be cool to know the truth!
Actually i think he was not injured... He sounded happy and he was joking around. I think he just didn't know exactly wich way is the good one to go back to the town and the kitty was leading him down... cute story tho :)
Yeah, so the news articles kind of exaggerated a bit. But basically: * I went up the mountain, couldn't go back down without backtracking for an hour through knee deep snow, depending on the area. The usual trails that they showed on the map were closed. * There was noone in the village to guide me along, everything besides a Lidl (or Aldis?) and a souvenir shop were closed. * All this with a sprained ankle. I twisted my ankle a week beforehand in Taize, France when I jumped off a fence marker. You can kind of tell in the video that I was limping along * Eventually I sat down on some steps to eat lunch and rest my leg, then found the cat * Cat started moving and kept looking back to see if I followed, so I followed. * Then I made this video * At the end of the video (or maybe before?) I took the picture that is on reddit (where the news articles got their story from). * At the end of the video we split, cat wandered around and I kept going into that tree area at the end of the dirt-trail/road. * Turns out, the trail/road led down the mountain. So, yeah, the cat did help me find my way.
The cat was helpful for people too stupid to see the obvious, man-made, well trimmed, fenced-in in path down a moderate hill, & follow it. pawpulous.com/2016/09/06/hiker-couldnt-find-the-way-through-the-mountains-until-he-found-this-cat/?src=ccl_55647&t=syn

Haha, one of the best compliments I've gotten. Thanks and glad you liked the video!
Tuxedo cats rule. The hidden lions of city and country. Have 3 feral tuxedo cats, very intelligent and are truly the coolest cats.
Cats actually love cheese! they shouldn't eat a lot since they're lactose intolerant, but cats aren't the best choice makers

Dude, that's totally a male cat. And poor guy looks neutered, so he probably wasn't looking for cats.
Aye, turns out you're right! The owner ended up contacting me after reading the story in a Swiss local newspaper. Turns out the cat is named Louis. :)
Did you really get lost, and did the cat actually help you find your way ?
Yeah, I got here from an article and he was apparently hiking and there was no one around, until he met this amazing cat..

Why is it unlisted?
It was originally just a video intended for my family, I posted it as "proof" in the reddit thread and I guess kinda blew up.
