I still have no idea how Cruelty Squad not only became one of my favorite games ever but also made me "feel" what I felt when I first started gaming, but I love it. It encapsulates that "what am I looking at, what do I do, what is the goal" that I somehow lost in the slog of AAA sludge that makes the biopunk decaying world of CS look pristine by comparison.
There's one more difficulty modifier above punishment mode that no review touches upon called chaos mode which adds in loads of top tier random enemies and several new random targets, as well as make you die in a single hit. Of course, most people won't unlock it unless they are completionists since it requires beating every level including the secret ones.
The shortest, best review of cruelty squad I ever saw was a friend streaming it, stopping from naseua after an hour and still immediately committing to fitting a full play through in
While I do still think this is too weird for me and I will probably never play this game you have pulled me to it a lot more then I was before, but am very happy to see a new upload. Keep it up Kirk!
What's weirder is when the game starts making sense 🤪 But yeah this is a wild one, not going to be for everyone. But appreciate the view and the comment Miki!
So, I bought it. So here are my opinions on the game. I do think Kirk was right on the difficulty part but only when you checkmark the Punishment difficulty, otherwise it's quite easy when you use the good weapons. The freedom that Kirk has gone over is there and is really really fun, everyone says this but you almost immediately get used to the artstyle and it even grows on you a lot. For now I can easily recommend trying the game out and once again Kirk has recommended another game that has immediately grown on me.
I saw a few videos about this game and was positive I don't want anything to do with it, but after your descriptions and explanation, it seems almost palatable. That takes some major writing chops. Good job man (don't forget to post this in the steam hub for exposure).
I love this style of art, very experimental definitely my personal favorite style of art and it makes me happy seeing this stuff in video games to a more wider audience who are at least willing to get it a look even just once ^_^
I always appreciate when a game goes outside the box, or in this game's case outside the box into the far reaches of the universe where the dark ones live and wait.
Did I watch the video? Yes. Did I like the video? Yes. Am I subbed? Yes. Will I play this? Ehhhhhhh. Love ya Kirk, keep up the great work! Im just too scared I'll get high and this will freak me out. 🤣
I saw someone on the steam page say that the entire soundtrack was composed of brown notes and I just heard that first note in the video and felt a surreal buzz go throughout my body
Like many of your viewers I’mpretty entrenched in the boomer shooter community. But you always present information that I didn’t know about a game or give cool recs (like villecallio). Love the vids man, hope you continue to grow.
I think the way the AI darts around really helps to disorient you and put you on-edge. It's frustrating... but I think Cruelty Squad is meant to be frustrating.
Two things: 1. You trying to describe CS at the very beginning made me chuckle and think "mad bars" 2. That Inspector Gadget bit made me just laugh out loud. Also I'm glad more and more people see the transhuman and cyberpunk themes in this game. Great review as always, man!
Its interesting to see a game using the old genesis twang to enhance its amosphere since almost everyone remembers its metalic FM sounds in a Very negative light
you are the best of the boomer shooter reviewers so could you please look at this game called Devilated, the dev says the game is complete but left it in early access to ask for feedback on what needs fixing. Since then a small youtuber covered it so he overhauled it according to criticism, could you cover it and critique as well so he finishes it?

I swear Kirk's hair in his portrait gets longer each episode

That’s the video game equivalent of a “boot and rally”

Thank you Tom. Writing is the toughest aspect of this so I really appreciate that comment. And yes we are posting to Steam now 😁

haha well speaking from experience... it will 😂
and thank you!

And this, boys and girls, is why you should not mix magic shrooms, LSD, meth and four shots of Everclear before playing old tactical shooters
Yeah but if you do you're gonna have a lot of fun... and maybe see god.

playing this while high is a trip.I was running around like a headless chicken.
just got onto your channel. Great stuff man. Wish you all the best
Once you understand the mechanics of this game it's so freaking fun, Def my goty

Good review, you explained well how this game gave me unexpected moments of introspection. It makes me enjoy suffering.

I'd love to see a terrible mod of this game with normal looking graphics and lighting and stuff 😂😂😂 delet this am I right, that would be sacrilege
its called deus ex
Was surprised to notice after watching how few views this has, I'll subscribe right now, insightful stuff, thanks!
Its interesting to see a game using the old genesis twang to enhance its amosphere since almost everyone remembers its metalic FM sounds in a Very negative light
It sounds more like dos box audio and music to me
Cruelty Squad is like the Space Funeral of FPS games
Cruelty Squad is genuinely fantastic
Excellent video on this game. One of the best I'd say.
if u think the slugs are bad, i cant wait till you hear about armored slugs
O sick i wanted to see what you thought about this game

This reminds me of that weird game with all the boogers and snot from the 90s. What the hell was that thing called?
Is it boogerman?
@@ekiouja its not now that i look at it but im so glad you brought this to my attention XD
Toejam and Earl
Game of the year for me. easily.
Less gooo
I love how this works as "let's go" but also as a plea for "less goo"
Hey Kirk! Whaaat?
You think this is better than graphically impressive games like GTA 5 or The Witcher 3?
Are you sure you gave Cruelty Squad enough time? From the look of your review it seems you never got the other endings, or the required surgery.
Not a spoiler review 👍
@@KIRKCOLLECTS I see, thank you.
Lol I JUST watched the dunkey video on this game
I really really really really don’t like cruelty squad. It’s pain
Call me a spoiled brat or something but this is just too ugly to me. Can’t get into it .
