Skydio 2 Winter Flight at Lucky Peak Reservoir

- It had been quite a while since I had flown the Skydio 2. The drone has an amazing camera on it, and this was a good opportunity to go for a flight. I did demonstrate the tracking feature of the Skydio 2 as well as the obstacle avoidance capability. However most of this flight was a scenic flight over the reservoir. The image clarity and colour is brilliant. The limited flight range is just a minor disadvantage against all of the other advantages of the Skydio 2 in my opinion. Such a great drone but of course, you do realise that all you are doing is teasing us here in the UK and the rest of Europe, wanting something so bad but we just can't get it! Ha ..... you keep it up Marcus!! 😂

Great to see you get the Skydio 2 out for a winter flight. And so right about the camera being underrated, almost no talks about how good the video is. Not many drones capture better video, even when in auto settings. You were to capture some awesome video of the canyon. Nice flight.

The whole scene is tranquil!!!!!! Your right about Skydio 2 being underrated. I was going to get on the list but didn’t when I saw the shipping problems and just the dang cost of the thing with extra batteries, the beacon, and the controller. Also the loss connection problem like you showed. Also the rumors of a new far less expensive Mavic Air 2 hit the channels and I decided that it was the drone for me. But what if!!! That was some stunning footage...it's a beautiful area. I am brand new to drones with the DJI Mini 2 being my first. I think I learned that I would not buy the Skydio2. The obstacle avoidance is impressive, but the glitches with the drone were more than I would want to tolerate. This video is evidence why DJI is the market leader I suppose.
You will have a ton of fun with your Mini 2. 👍

Hey Marcus, the Skydio camera did great, handled the contrast especially well. A great looking day to get it in the air!! Thanks for sharing with us. If I had a Skydio (which I don't) I would take a picture of the case LOGO, print it out and put it on a landing pad and see if it would land on the pad. Surely it would, right? But you never know until you try❗❗ If I only knew someone that had a Skydio❓❓ 😁

I think the drone was made more for the tracking feature as well as the obstacle avoidance capability not for distance. But your right the cam does take some nice video.
Your points a quite valid. I so wish Skydio would improve the controller.
Excellent video. I just bought a DJI Mini 2 and plan to fly from some of the same points you are flying from as soon as the weather warms up and the pandemic cools down, if ever. I would love to fly the same route with the Mini 2 but I would be afraid the thing would lose connection and land in the water and then I would be out $500 since I wouldn't be able to recover the drone, probably.
I love the camera and the obstacle avoidance features, but that's what you get when you more than double the price of the Mini 2. As usual, there is no limit on the amount of features one can buy if you want to spend the money.
I've been flying the Mini2 since it was released....Trust me, you are not going to lose connection in the area that Marcus was flying. I've flown it plenty far and have watched many RUclips videos of people flying it 6 miles away from them!! You don't have anything to worry about. Occusync 2.0 is amazing.
Your Mini 2 will always come home. I've flown mine out, turned off the controller, and unplugged my iPhone, and the drone comes home. 👍 Let me add that if you program the drone to land upon loss of signal it will not RTH.
Great Video.... Love my Skydio 2 also and your right the camera is really good maybe better than my Mavic 2 zoom and Mavic Air 2 or the Mini 2. The range of the controller is not real good but then that is because it wifi, vs. OcoSync 2.0.
I think if you would had none a return to home it would had found the case... Needed to be a little higher up.

I love my Skydio, but if I only had one it would be the MA2. It is very versatile.
Looking at going to Vegas again as soon as we can. Do you know if you can fly a drone in the Grand Canyon? Or is it restricted with all the helicopters that go there.
All National Parks are “off limits” for Drone flights. I think National Monuments are as well. Perhaps Lake Powell may be a good spot in the area?
Yes, sadly there is no flying in National Parks. 🙁

I've not had any issues with the fly app. I'm sorry I have not seen the problem.
I didn’t buy the controller, but I’m thinking about it, I never knew that you had to shut off Wi-Fi for it to work 🤔🤔🤔
Yes, if you don't shut off WiFi, the drone could connect to your phone instead of the controller.

Skydio support has been absolutely terrible. Drone crashed on its first flight and I have tried multiple emails, voicemails, chats and even reaching out to them on Facebook. NO RESPONSE. Kind of absurd for the money you pay. Does anyone know the most effective way to get in touch with them?
I've never had a reason to contact Skydio support, so don't know the best way to contact them. Who knows, they may see this post.
Sadly and very disappointing that no drones can tell you how high above the water it is! This is a huge problem...especially if you are away from the water and out of sight but flying the drone over the water....you cannot know your height above the water! You have to be on the water's edge with the controller....
Yes, the drone telemetry will only tell you how far above your takeoff point you are.
