Here's the problem with this advice--you are applying lipstick NEXT TO your skin color, not ON it. You are applying lipstick ON your LIP, which is darker than your skin and so distorts how the shade looks on you. How has no one figured this out and taken it into account???
That's sooooo true. My lips are dark compared to my face skin tone that I feel so far the perfect nude lipstick has not being created for me.
It is not about the underlying tone, but the contrast to the skin. I think you took this the wrong way.
Lipsticks are usually really pigmented,so i don't think it should be a problem
yeah but more of a consideration for sheer lip products not full coverage lipstick that covers your lip color entirely. Thus the skin color will contrast and make it look different. for lip skin tone lip liners can help make some sheerer colors go better with your skin tone

It should also mention the undertone. Just because someone is fair or dark doesn’t mean same colour works on them. You have to mention undertone. (12 seasonal colour analysis)
But why are all the lipsticks you tried on different shades of orange? What about blue undertone? Maybe its the screen that changes the color.

For darker skin tones I would get a more orangey red or dark red❤️ (I am mixed black and Puerto Rican so what works for me may not work for you)
I guess darker skin don’t exist. Rhiannas bright red liquid lipstick called “stunna” looks beautiful on me and I’m this color🖐🏾, it also looks gorgeous on darker complexion 🖐🏿💋

This isn't entirely true. As a cool, I'd never look good in an orange based red. It would have to be a blue base. We need to pay attention to the hue of our skin, not just the tone.

Just get a red lipstick that matches your season. You just need to know if you are warm tone or cool tone and then pick the desired intensity.
If it makes you feel any better, my skintone is not there too. All the shades are way too dark.
any red works with any skin tone tbh. its red.... its just that my problem is that on the left side they didnt even bother to add a darker color for the presentation.

So just going to say this, you can match any color to any skin tone and have it look good, its more about how you apply it than it is about the color. The only time it comes down to skin tone is when you are talking about different lighting settings, low lighting you want brighter shades and bright lighting you want to use darker shades.
The beautiful part about makeup is that you can experiment with different techniques and brands to get results you would never expect. Granted I will say it takes a lot of practice or a professional makeup artist to help you get it right for a while.
This shade match test is a load of BS unless you are painting on paper because it will never match on skin.
What about olive skin tones? So hard to get anything to match up to that

Look I'm medium beige (I think). I can pull all these shades off; however, pinkish reds looks better on me with full makeup. I use the rest without makeup on. (I'm a lipstick only girl most days 😉)

I have fair olive skin and I have to laugh at the people complaining about not having enough dark or pale shades when makeup ranges have like 40+ foundation shades now and I still have to buy two or three to mix or buy mixing pigments to get close to matching my skin. The makeup industry loves us outliers because we spend more one way or another. Anyways, if you can’t find your shade just tell yourself you’re rare when you’re spending double 😅
