To b fair, it's actually a huge Jamaican presence in parts of Canada. So a lot of terms and dialect u hear is a mix of that Patois. Same thing in the UK too
there’s loads of Jamaicans over here in the US too but our main influence is predominantly AAVE along with Gullah to certain levels and all American Accents mainly have a mixture of AAVE but also Gullah which both American dialects sound similar to Bahamian and Liberian accents which is interesting because they have their related share of historical connection.
I feel like that’s an unfair question, ya of course always respect the cultures that inspire you. These guys grew up in Toronto, and if you have been to Toronto you’ll know that the whole city is influenced heavily by Jamaican/Caribbean culture.
I know a little bit about Jamaica and patois, but like I feel that if you know how to speak to someone in their vernacular, that means you’ve taken the time out of your life enough to understand and respect who they are, how they speak in where they’re coming from, even if it’s only to communicate. Also I can send you a link of a long list of things that the french creoles brought to new Orleans that was then dispersed and built upon as black culture. Even Chicago was founded by a Haitian. A famous jazz composer said "jazz was not jazz if doesn't have a Spanish tinge to it" do black Americans speak Spanish or in no way shape or form was colonized by Spanish? Where'd that influence come from? Afro Cubans ofcourse.

Nobody “owns” culture. Culture is adopted and adapted and has been since the beginning of time. Every courthouse and almost every building in the US would have to be demolished if that were true because the all use some sort of Greek or Roman architecture forms.
