    I’m happy your trying to grow the Robert e Howard fandom. Bout time. If I ever learn animation. I’d totally make fan films of the stories in the public domain.

      Conan won't actually be in the public domain till 2028. In the UK he is in the public domain, but not in the US so depending on where you are be careful.

    Funny enough, my first exposure to Conan was the Conan the Adventurer animated series from the early 90s.

      ...grinz, kinda cheeesy and "family freindly". Was some entertainment gained tho'.
      I stumbled upon a UTube channel by the official production company a few years ago.
      All 22 episodes were posted.
      Some reason, they "ghosted" them all but one not long ago. Now can't find any of them.
      (Prob 'cause an interest for Conan has re-emerged and are now for sale on netflix or Amazon?)

    Back in the 1980’s, I read a lot (a LOT) of the Savage Sword Of Conan comic “magazine” published by Marvel- it was black and white and was pretty gritty. I saw the first movie back when it came out, and loved it even though he didn’t look the same to me. Just found your channel and subscribed without even watching a single video- watching them now, I’m very glad I did! Keep up the great work 👍🏻

    This is my favo story
    Because if you something frome other cultures you know this creature could be the inspiration for the Hindu God. The story reads fast and as you mentions gives a great vision of the adventurer conan. If ppl ask me what story to read to get familiar with conan I always advice this one.

    If you are not sure that this channel will work or not let me tell you it works. These stories are almost a century old. Im 17 and I read this stuff instead of modern fantasy and I keep recommend it to every classmate who is interested.

      @@conanchronicles5268 hey no problem! iirc i caught wind of it at the time of your first video through a geekvolution post, but it took me a while to get around to it.
      and yeah weirdly enough Conan seems to be part of pop culture (probably cuz of the movies to be fair) while also being a very niche thing with a cult following.
      ..im sure theres a documentary out there that goes into its rise and fall from the zeitgeist.

    I love the Frazetta stuff...Boris is OK but overrated. Frazetta a bit grimier, uglier. Conan for most of his literary career is in the shit, so it makes sense for the world to be a bit muddier, grimier. Not everyone is tanned and bathed-looking like they are in Vallejo/Bell stuff.
    If you guys want to hear a good dramatized reading of this story check out "The Cybrarian". Pretty well done and has atmosphere.

    Thanks for the video.
    Here is my hot take: I think this might be the most overrated Conan story. Not because it's not good, just because everybody goes on and on like it's the single best.
    The scene between Conan and Yag-Kosha might be my single favorite scene in almost any Conan story, however I've never been able to get around the end of this story. It's rushed and I just don't like it.

    • @conanchronicles5268
      @conanchronicles5268  2 года назад +2

      That's totally fair, I do agree that the story sort of lives and dies by that scene with the Elephant-man. For me personally, that scene was enough to be a super memorable story. I totally get where you're coming from as far as the ending. It does feel a bit rushed, and the villain is sorta nothing.

      Hey buddy!! The plan right now is just Conan stuff, but I am going to cover the Kull stories that were later re-written as Conan stories by other authors and the Kull the Conqueror movie eventually. The Kull movie's script was originally Conan 3 before Arnold refused to come back for it, and Kevin Sorbo didn't want to take over the Conan role from Arnold so I thought that would make sense to review on here. I hope you enjoy the videos! 😁

      This story has nothing do with Lovecraft. This story was an origins story for Ganesha a Hindu god. Everything about Yogah-Kosha is Hindu. Nothing in this story alludes to Lovecraft, nothing at all.

    I did not enjoy the conan movies. They had their moments, And they had plenty of campy dialogue that was fun, Conan's first words come to mind. But I found them overall to be cheesy, low quality, and ultimately incoherent.
    But I just discovered the Conan books. I'm really infatuated with them, because they're nothing like the movies. I thoroughly enjoyed the Tower of the elephant, and so far it's my favorite story. The sword and sorcery genre as a whole intrigues me. I love high fantasy, and I loved Lord of the Rings and other excellent fantasy stories, but I'm really charmed by the notion that we can zero in on one character, for one adventure at a time. Almost feels like old cartoon series, and comic books. I was especially impressed by the mood that the author fused into the Conan story. It felt dark, gritty, and shadowy. It had a film noir vibe to it, while being fiercely committed to violence and action. I have to say, I enjoyed it immensely.

    • @Thagomizer
      @Thagomizer Год назад +1

      The first Conan movie isn't campy. It's anti-camp, and Milius brings the grit he's known for in the forefront of this film. It's beautifully shot and showcases some truly impressive sets to boot. If you want an example of a truly campy movie, try Flash Gordon, Land of the Lost, or Mom and Dad Save the World.
