It's a trick dress. They cost about $10000 to make. The second dress is hidden beneath the first dress and is revealed by pulling straps by the actress.
So a lot of the time what they do is they have basically two dresses: one ball gown and one peasant dress. She’ll put on the peasant skirt, then another skirt to be used as a pocket (those would be the brown and green skirts here). Then, she’ll put on the Ball gown, and then pull the skirt up into the green pocket skirt and tuck it up into the peasant bodice that she puts on over everything. The peasant bodice has false seams with pull cords that she releases as she spins, letting the Ball gown explode out and cover everything. The bodice falls Away and is either left to drop to the ground or is attached to the peasant skirts in some way so that it’s hidden by the gown. Sometimes they’ll hide a hoop skirt under it somehow so that it’s released with the rest of the dress and gives it immediate volume. This was tbh one of the best transformations I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot. The beginning dress isn’t bulky at all (quite amazingly...even a lot of other broadway ones are way bigger than this), and the hoop skirt being put on in 3seconds was honestly more impressive than when it’s just hidden under the skirt somehow. It’s like they just blew air into the skirt and it stayed 😂. I’m literally at a loss as to how the hoop skirt thing happened here.
K I think I figured it out. If you watch it at .25 speed, you can kinda see it. I hypothesize that she has an entire wrap dress thing going on side stage. So what she does is run to the side to someone who is holding a wrap around dress open for her. This skirt would have Part Of a bodice attached to it and would have the crinoline/hoop built into it. She grabs it, spins a bit to help it get all the way around her, and fastens it... likely with Velcro or a super strong magnet strip or something. Watch it. Look at 7:01 specifically at a very slow speed. You’ll see it. You can see her arm wrap something around her waist. Keep watching and take a good look at the final product. It looks like there’s another layer to the bodice that ends about bust-height. Now, look at 6:58. You can clearly see that her waist is quite small. Go back to the final thing, and you’ll see that her waist no longer looks nearly so small, as if there are extra layers on her. That’s my proof. Still speculation, but it’s the best I’ve got.
I feel so sad because I’m with the transformation you could see a bit of the dress peeking out from the rag dress and the brown lining of the bottom part was showing
I didn’t notice, and I look for stuff like that.
Tbh that’s how her dress is made. It’s a wrap. Each girl had a diff dress!! I think the dress has been worn too many times So it wouldn’t lay flat. Because everything is hooked and right
i feel like the dress transformation would be cooler if they just ditched the fluffy part and kept it unfluffy cause it looks weird her running of stage.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't really like Keke in this role. She certainly has the voice for it but her acting feels off-putting. I am currently being trained as a professional stage actor so I understand the need to exaggerate facial expressions, but the way she does it makes it seem more like she's making fun of it than actually acting. Especially when you compare her to the other actors on stage- they all do the exaggerated motions required for the stage, and they all still feel real, where Keke's Cinderella feels like a caricature. And her speaking voice has trouble with the emotions too; there's definitely emotion there, it's just always the SAME emotion. I think, if she weren't a celebrity casting, she'd have been lucky to get this role in a community theater production.
This actress is painful to watch. Really terrible acting and weak vocals. Oh. my. Even Topher seems uninterested in her. No chemistry at all. Instead, watch Joe Carroll and Carly Rae Jepsen. Now that is chemistry! The comedic timing and genuine joy of singing and acting together was clear. This version is a pale imitation, sadly. No wonder the show closed on Broadway.
Personally, I think Laura was the best. I think there's more reasons to the show closing because it was already announced that the show was going to close before it was even announced that Keke was joining the cast. I don't think audience members and critics enjoyed neither Carly or Keke as Cinderella.
mamandemeeka her acting is a bit over the top, but I’m not understanding how people are hearing weak vocals. Her voice is lower, just because of the nature of her being an alto, but it sounds very strong to me. And this is coming from a vocal major.
You need to stop putting one actress down to lift up another. This is so disrespectful, each actress did her best, now each of us have our preference and it’s ok but learn to respect the work of people.
the fairy godmothers shadow when shes flying looks like satan XDD
I have the good fortune of playing Marie in our local production soon, and it is just so much fun!! Love her actress her, wonderful job

Who is playing Sebastian in this, he does so good
Laura forever be the best Cinderella on Brodway. But Keke too good. It's not Carly, after all.

The over acting is insane lmao
No one talking about her tutu the other way round?
It’s the right way around she just didn’t fasten it tight enough.
❤❤❤
Why is Cinderella so...giddy? Her speaking voice is too much!
The court dancing isnt 18c its more Elizabethan tudor ...

Keke is so whinny!!!!
keke used to be able to act when she was on Nickelodeon

i think shes a great singer, but her voice is more of a pop voice than a broadway voice
Absolutely NOT! She is Anazing !!! She’s playing the role like that for a reason.
