That area was built by the civilian conservation corps during the depression. It was a a swimming area with a nice little beach. Down the road and back through the woods were campsites some remnants can still be found.

    ALOHA Wanderng Woodsman,
I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for making this video. I'm disabled so hiking isn't something I can do so... I SUBSCRIBED! Looking forward to more of your hiking videos. BTW, I've never seen so many orange leaves before in my life! That's one thing we really don't get in Hawai'i are the seasons. ;-D
Take care, stay safe and don't forget to share your aloha spirit with another.
    GOD BLESS,

Those stairs were part of six penny lake resort. I vaguely remember the lake had a set of stairs like that that went into the lake. I wonder if those were the stairs that went into the lake. We used to go there when I was a kid in the sixties and seventies. The resort was well past its prime back then and looked like moss grown set from land of the lost or planet of the apes. I’d love to see what is left on the resort. It was concrete and brick and was multiple levels high. If it still existed it would probably be a good movie set for a post apocalyptic movie. The lake was spring fed and was always freezing cold. Chris

I live in NW PA and have French Creek a few hundred yards from my house. I would have never guessed French Creek State Park was in Eastern PA. The French Creek near me goes through Erie, Crawford and Venango Counties. Of course we pronounce it as "French Crick". Wish I could have watched your videos when I was in Iraq. You can't be in a bad mood when you walk through the Pennsylvanian forests. Great video.

If you're coming to this video expecting to see something supernatural, you clicked on the wrong video. This is not made to be another "stairs in the woods" horror story, he actually found a legitimate stone staircase that used to belong to part of a swimming attraction. If you're wondering where that is in the video, it's at 5:00. Still an excellent video, I was just getting slightly annoyed at the comments.

Hi I enjoy you videos and what you are doing. Just a thought. Most of the former buildings you are showing were the remains of some companies assets, the wood part of the building most likely was sold off as lumber to recoup as much of their investment back as possible. This lumber could then be re-sold for building other buildings, as milled lumber was probably hard to come by back then. I enjoy history, but at 65 I am probably past wandering around the woods anymore, so it is great to have someone like you, who is willing to show us these things. Thanks, John

Thats an old waterpark started around 1913 and closed in the early 1980s because of Geese n it became unsanitary to swim. It used to be a huge lake drained down to a small pond. It was feed by a natural spring. It also hsd two huge bath houses and pucnic areas. It was called Six Penny.

Just stumbled across your video I live within walking distance of where you were. Six Penny lake was the swimming lake. Some early memories of visiting it when I was a kid. The Canadian Geese killed the lake, so they drained it. I remember you could not place a foot down without stepping on goose droppings all over the entire beach area. Several deaths have occurred in the quarry. One where park officials were trying to chase out kids and one fell off the uphill side of the quarry.

heya here's some pics I found when looking up about the quarry. It sounds like it was a famous quarry for its particular type of black granite, French Creek Granite co. around early 1900s. It was used in many monuments.
anyway, here's a link to some pics. really big place. www.flickr.com/photos/fate0000/3717126685/in/photostream/ from 2009 I think.
Thanks for your interesting video tours. I like hiking around like that and investigating around at interesting things.
I love those gloomy foggy cool days also. gives things an otherworldly appearance and jump starts ones imagination.

its called 6 penny lake. was built as a "resort" in the 20's. the dam was built to be a swimming hole. there are little stone fire places up along the paved roads that go thorough there. there is also a parking area if you walk the roads. hope you like our foot bridge.

I really enjoyed your video. I frequently visit French Creek but have never hiked on Six Penny Trail. After seeing your video I'll certainly check it out. As regards the quarry...from personal experience, the rangers are VERY serious about the "no trespassing" in that area. Apparently there were some fatalities there in the distant past and the park service doesn't want anyone getting anywhere near it. Be forewarned.

Former Six Penny Park as others have commented. There were some very nice pavilions and large bath house on the lake at one time. Not far from this place is a timber railroad bridge for the Saint Peters branch of the Reading RR. Some great quarry history and ruins back in the woods along the RR bed.

it is an old resort area from the 70,s. six penny creek or something like that. the park service bought it. Links to park.
anyway, it was left abandoned. these were the stairs entering the lake pool. on the other side is the damn that you can block up with 4x6's to make it a pool again. the creek fills it. (I'm thinking about making it a pool again lol.
      nice hiking area.

I have a few tricks up my sleeve for restoring the pool :). Could take several weeks to fill so it would have to be the time of year water flows the heaviest.
I found out the scoop on the resort after texting a friend. It was called "six penny" and was in operation roughly 1930 to 1980. My buddies dad used to go there as a kid so I heard some stories about it. All the old foundations, some roads, spring houses, and odds and ends like baskets were left behind.

I would suspect if there was a dam and the stone wall that there probably was a small wood house that they took away. Usually someone lived where they built a dam. I would suspect since this land is part of a park the state of Feds bought the land and they remove any dwellings. Very common where I live. They control the waterways almost nationwide.
You can live near but they own the waterways.

That reminds me of Alonzo F. Bonsall Bird Sanctuary in northern NJ. Not that big, but there's a lot of really weird and senseless structures there, also underground tunnels. We used to drink there at night in the 80s. One time, and I have no idea how this happened, we got lost in there for 4 hours despite knowing the place really well and it not being a big place at all. Alonzo is in either Clifton or Bloomfield or right on the border. You park on a regular suburban street and take a path that goes directly between 2 houses to get inside. I think the street is Alexander Ave. but it's been YEARS since I been there.

    • @SunRabbit
      @SunRabbit 7 лет назад +1

No way. I just looked at Google maps 40.850089, -74.187913 and there's only a tiny piece of it left. It used to be the whole area between Alexander Ave. and Chittenden but they built a whole mess of new streets. Oh well. If you DO decide to check it out I wouldn't stick to any of the paths, that is, if you want to find something weird.

Its easy to slip or trip. Its easy to fall over and bang your head & that alone can kill you, or leave you confused, disorientated or brain injured & unable to find your way, or even move. Just getting dehydrated can put you into a very disadvantaged state, it can cause disorientation, confusion, paranoia, exhaustion. If you are on your own you could easily die with no intervention from anything paranormal. Travel in small groups, with people you know well.

Just a quick heads up man , there's a lot of bazaar unexplainable dissapearances going on in National Parks and forests . I wouldn't recommend going out hiking alone at all due to the fact that people vanish right under the noses of others . But if you must I would recommend carrying a personal transponder and a firearm. If you want to know more search up Missing 411 I'm positive youll be baffled . Something not normal is going on , and it's not related to human abductions getting lost or wildlife. These people are vanishing under circumstances unknown. There's currently 58 clusters in the us alone. Yosemite National Park having the largest cluster of missing people. What's scary is blood hounds cannot pick up a scent. People end up miles and miles away over mountain ranges in record time . It's very strange I wont get into all of it , but there's something taking people that is beyond our normal logical understanding. Just a heads up man , I really recommend you look into Missing 411 by David Paulidis. And stay safe !

I thought about it and then when you found the pond then they really started bringing back the memory of the Old Hunt Club that was out in the National Park... I'm thinking is in the early nineteen hundreds or the late 18 hundreds somewhere in there.... Be blessed...BBE..

One I know of myself is a young woman late teens/early 20's found in the park 40+ yrs. ago. She is on the Doe Network also. That place has an evil vibe. Great videos from my home state of PA. I believe the red mushroom that looks like a rotted brain is gyromitra esculenta or false morel, poisonous if consumed raw.

By the way, I looked at every single thing on the internet two years ago and again last year on every kind of purple mushroom but I have never been able to find anything that looked like the one I had found in the woods... it actually at first almost looked like a small round spongy purple ping pong size ball that was a little bit more and it had the bottom part which was really skinny.. actually kind of shriveled.. maybe it wasn't a mushroom but it sure had this sponginess... but there was not one mushroom in all the photos that looked like it.

Interesting. It looks old. The stories going around is that they have white carpet and look brand new and such. So this doesn't fit the legends but it's a good find and with some archaeology some answers may be found. It may have been some sort of park or something. I would say without a doubt there were buildings in the area at one point. I came here thinking this was another conspiracy or supernatural video but you have pleasantly surprised me. Great video.

I live about 10 mins from this park and have been there more times than I can count. It was an industrial complex in the 40’s. Then part of it became a resort. After it was closed it was designated as state park land and renovated. These steps are part of said complex. There is absolutely nothing of a sinister nature going on here. It is nowhere near remote as housing developments immediately surround it on all sides. Sorry, I know this info is not exciting or sexy but it’s fact. You won’t find this in a Missing 411 book. I’m saddened that this beautiful park may have been caught up in some crazy paranormal bs by this video.

It was built during FDR's presidency by the Civilian Conservation Corps and the swimming hole was abandoned in 1999. Apparently in the 90's an effort was started remove dams that were impeding natural river flows. It was controversial back then but is relatively common practice now. So it's been around for a while but was only recently given back to nature. It's amazing how man made structures can be so quickly reclaimed.

if at any point you would like to try to check out the quarry let me know. Im going to try to go there this summer. It is nicknamed Dier's Quarry and there has been several deaths there of cliffjumpers that do not know what they are doing and do not take appropriate safety precautions like I do whenever I am cliff jumping. I know of the best way to get in and best time from people to not get fined so if you would like to go at some point, feel free to DM me on instagram @jake_mryan

I have seen these stairs. When I started hearing about the people seeing steps in the woods I thought they were different. These were built but never were in a. house and never had carpet etc.

I remember camping in French Creek State Park as a kid back in the 70s. Is it possible those stairs led to the Fire Tower that was once in the park. Is the Fire Tower still there? Just curious.

Multiple people have died in this park. 2 divers in quarry. 2 suidides in quarry. 1 heart attack in the main park. 1 suicide by co2 poisoning in car. 2 cold cases from 1960's and just recently a 25 year old woman fell to her death at the quarry. Its a strange area for death.

    • @Arbxterra
      @Arbxterra 5 лет назад

Tommie Fisher I know one of the cold cases was related to a ring of car thefts, teens would steal cars, strip them and then push them off the cliff into the water. In one of those incidents the guy allegedly got snagged on the car as they were pushing it and went over the cliff with it, all the others involved stayed tight lipped because of the involvement in illegal car theft ring. As for the divers, rumor has it that their life line rope was deliberately cut while they were under the ice and they could not get back out, very creepy.

Hey guy, don't know if you still get hits or read your comments. I came across someone saying they seen something@7:05. bro, i seen it plain as day! i am a total skeptic on this shit, but i 100% seen it. without a doubt! i love about 40 mins from this area, in Parkesburg,Pa.. There is some awesome places to hike and quite a few abandoned houses to explore. one mansion specifically that will have you shitting your pants! If your into that type of thing? It can be a lot of fun as long as you abide by safety precautions and follow the local laws, not to add respecting people's property. very important! If you are interested hit me up on your page here. I should get it! If not I really enjoyed your video. thanx!
