Triathlon swimming and training in openwater it is used to keep your body temp. from dropping down by trapping the heat that your body produce... you can use it for surfing even thou its not meant for that scuba diving and free diving i doubt it but i saw a guy diving in lakes with lighter wetsuits better ask a pro for more information regarding what you are going to do.

Thinner wetsuits are used for surfing because surface temps in water tend to be a lot warmer than scuba diving depths. Water gets a lot colder after you get about 15 to 20 feet below the surface.
Now I need to know how to get it off without making a fool of myself in transition!
