It is a great place if you are old or young, but not much of a night life. I agree, Roanoke is not to be consider metropolitan area just a slow place to live. When you drive through Roanoke the road systems here are not well planned and most of drivers get road rage very easily. Roanoke City is in the shape of a bowel, so when the heat of summer hits, all of that pollution that is generate is held down into the city making hard for people who have asthma to breath not the mention the pollen. The Parkway is beautiful in the fall. If you plan to hike spray yourself down real good with an insect spray because of the over population of deers are carrying ticks with Lyme disease. Bambi does live here and yes they can attack, but usually they either run or stare. If you want a good laugh then this is the place for you.
