I was born on the Island many years ago. As a matter of fact, in approx 18 days, on Feb 2nd. 2022 it will be 89yrs. Yes, the Island is beautiful. Often referred to as “little England”. I left the Island in January, 1958 to continue my life with my wife of 2 years. We emigrated to Canada. Had 4 children, 9 grandchildren & currently counting 11 great grandchildren. Happy life always. Prior to that, I spent a season driving a Tour Coach for Paul’s Tours of Ryde. There used to be so many Tour Bus companies on the Island … In addition to the Southern Vectis who was the main competition, there were: Shotter’s; Seaview Services; Paul’s Tours; White Heather; Read’s Tours, & a few more I no longer remember. In addition, there were 2 large coaches sent over from the mainland each season belonging to Hants & Dorset. They were stationed in the Ryde Depot of Southern Vectis. So many coaches for such a small Island. We ran “round the island” tours, afternoon tours, evening tours & mystery tours. drivers were paid a minimal weekly sum of money that barely paid for food. We were expected to sell tour tickets to passing holiday makers & particularly day-trippers arriving from Portsmouth by ferry. Our area of sales opportunity was right beside a company coach that was conveniently parked on the promenade near where the train tunnel starts. I met my future wife while doing this job, a lovely Irish girl. We were married in October of 1956 & I’m happy to say, 65 years later, we are still married. The small tour-bus companies have all been bought out by the bigger Southern Vectis. What a shame. I particularly enjoyed the evening mystery tour. A nice drive in the country prior to sunset, always arriving at a good roadhouse pub for a short stop & a pint after which, we would return to home base, always with lots of singing of well known songs. O such wonderful memories. I doubt very much that still happens.
My sister lives on the island so like a second home to me, I absolutely love it here, Beautiful historic buildings, never far from a sea view and far less hustle and bustle as on the mainland. Like stepping back in time.
Oh this was lovely, brings back memories of my younger days, and those old trains, still "running" Really lovely vlog, thank you Shu, really lovely, and enjoyed very much, as always, nice b and b too, have a great week ahead.
@@dejashu I went when I had more hair, it was the year The Battle Of Britain war film opened, so we went to the cinema to watch it, but have only been back once Shu. Having a great week and now making plans for September, I hope your week is going well also.
Yes!! It’s such a beautiful way of remembering holidays! All about creating the best memories with those we love the most - even if it’s just us by ourselves! ☺️
Thanks for taking me to Isle of Wight. Another place to put on my already long UK list of places I would like to visit. The cliffs or the needles looks really great! Great video
@@dejashu I should more often say, hey this weekend I am going to rent a car for 2 days and go somewhere in the country. I always end up going somewhere else instead of staying in the UK.
Loooooved this vlog so much, have added the Isle of Wight to my list! May I ask where you got your moon/star necklace from and also then jumper you’re wearing in the end! They’re both so nice x
Looks really pretty! Might give it a try. Lived in Portsmouth for a bit a long time ago but never crossed over. Can you take your own car on the hovercraft?
Thank you! I really want to see more of the UK and I’m so pleased I got to see Isle of Wight this time! It’s my sister’s ahaha and it’s from Missguided via ASOS! ☺️
@@dejashu Hi Shu, It's me again. I just wanted to thank you so much for acknowledging and replying to my message. It's really nice to meet and be able to get a reply from someone in the youtube channels. I found that most people that I have contacted never bother to reply at all, even though I subscribed to their channel. So many thanks to you Shu. Regards John E

I've lived on the island for 20 years and still haven't been to Winkle Street! That Rabbie's dude needs his own channel. 😆 👍
Worth a visit for the name alone but the street itself is quaint and very cute! Doesn’t he?!
I'm still watching your vlogs! They're awesome as ever!
Aww thank you, Lewis!!! Pleased you’re still enjoying them!

"newer trains from the 1950's" thats very Britain™
It did excite me to see an underground train in a different setting 😅 not sure why as I see the tube everyday in London!

Aww it’s worth a visit if you’re ever near Portsmouth again! I don’t believe so - definitely can on the ferry though!
Sorry you can’t take cars on the hovercraft
No but you can take cars on the Wightlink ferry to Fishbourne or Yarmouth or the Red Funnel to East Cowes.
Ben no hovercraft is foot passengers only
