  • PFPS does not have a clear healing time frame. Doctors will give you ranges between a few weeks and a few months.
But there are many people that deal with PFPS for years! Often the pain comes and goes, so it might feel like it ended at times... but really the root problem was still there waiting to flare up as soon as you over do it somehow.
There are even people who have constant knee pain for month on end. These people run into so much frustration because doctors tell them there is nothing wrong with their x-ray or MRI and they don't understand why the knee swells and hurts so much for all these months.
In this video, Dr. David answers the question, "How long to heal knee pain from patellofemoral pain syndrome?"

This is so refreshing! I find physical therapy doesn’t get me there, because the therapist concentrates on the body part that needs correction, without taking into account the interrelated body parts. I am heartened to hear your reference to strengthening the core and the glutes, which I have been concentrating on with Pilates. Walking causes knee problems for me and I would very much like to get back to that. I have had so much physical therapy that doesn’t really address the problem. I have hyper-mobility which compounds the problem and not one physical therapy has address what that adds to the mix.

Hi Peggy! Thank you for sharing your experience and so sorry to hear that you have not had luck in dealing with your pain prior. It sounds like you've had quite a journey with physical therapy and are glad to hear that the approach we mention resonates with your experience. It's so important to consider the interconnectedness of our bodies, especially for individuals like yourself with hyper-mobility. Below will be some additional links that may be heloful:

I have taken your course. While it definitely helps work the muscles in question, there is no long term strategy to avoid the problem returning. There needs to be a maintenance routine to keep those muscles strong. We can't be expected to do an 30-60 minute butt workout every day. A guide on running and walking would be great too.

Love your videos. Am learning a lot. My MRI shows flipped meniscal fragment in intercondylar region. Bucket handle tear. Obviously I need to work on muscle imbalance but is there any hope of me avoiding surgery?
