We lost in 1962 due to lack of good automatic rifle , it seems we have been sleeping like '' Kumbhkaran " these these years .
technology is only one factor among many why India lost. India lost mainly because of incompetent officers.

Its 2024 and still Army Navy and Airforce is using INSAS. The special rifles are issued to a very few specialist groups. So its sad.

An Indian Army soldier has recently developed India's first modern and customisable high quality AK derivative rifle. It is indigenously developed and will be manufactured here as well.
First of all is you are talking about AK203 it is not developed indigeniously it is a Russian firearm.
And secondly our Army is getting a downgraded variant of AK203. Due to cost cutting.

Indian special forces should be provided with Scar -L and Scar - H rifles.....they are already used in small numbers by the Indian special forces but they should be procured in bulk numbers.

Why can’t they do reverse engineering of AK or M16
We need production done in India than we will be sufficient
Just make an ak in 5.56 nato round with slightly longer barrel with aperture sights... remember the 5.56 round use in insas is a downgraded round compared to original nato 5.56 round. The 5.56 which is now fired in insas has less range and is not compatible with m4 or m16 rifles
G-3A3 and M-16-A4 and AK-M are only Great weapons, still in service with the nations of their Origen,.

I used INSAS rifles in many times when I was NCC cdt. I can say that INSAS rifles too heavy and too jams. it's used only for drill.

Non funding for research and development in the main reason..government should support nurturing of local talent in research, only then we can advance in these areas. If you have seen movie "kalashnikov", in Russia they were able to build those guns due to competition in different units of army to come up with a gun design better to west. We should have similar environment to incentivize such work.
