She was kept in the kitchen as it was very cold and damp outside and it was warm in the kitchen. they wanted to keep her away from cold as she was running a high temperature 2. Why did the doctor find the little girl ' unusually attractive' and the parents 'contemptible' ? the doctor found the girl attractive because she was physically as strong as a heifer. she had magnificent blonde hair. She looked to be as beautiful as the pictures of the young kids that are published in the photo section of Sunday's paper. the parents looked him to be contemptible as they were not cooperating with the doctor in helping him diagnose the disease of the girl. Moreover, the mother said to the girl to let him examine her throat and added the doctor would not hurt her. 3. How did the parents try to convince the child into obeying the doctor's instructions? The mother asked her to let the doctor examine her throat as he would not hurt her. Moreover, she threatened her that if she did not cooperate, she would have to go to the hospital 4. How did the doctor finally succeed in examining Mathilda? In his desperate effort, the doctor asked for a smooth-handled silver spoon. Then he ordered her father to hold her and the doctor himself overpowered her neck and jaws. Then he forced the heavy silver spoon back of her teeth and down her throat till she gagged. 5. How did the doctor discover? When the doctor finally succeeded in examining the throat of the girl, he was shocked to see that both tonsils were covered with membrane.
