You both bring fantastic energy to your vlogs, so to see you in my hometown enjoying some of my absolute favourite restaurants has been a delight❤ I want to take a moment to give you some background on a truly special restaurant you ate at: Gigi Pizza in Newtown. Apart from the food being ridiculously good, this restaurant holds a special place in the heart of vegans. In 2015, at a time when it was one of Sydney's most popular Pizza restaurants, the owner, Marco Mattino, made the decision to remove all animal products from the menu. Until that point, the restaurant was using traditional mozzarella and prosciutto. At the time, Marco said, “For me it is something that I have to do, whether I believe it is going to work or not is not the issue. I don't think it's right to use ingredients that are unethical.” The backlash was enormous! Their social media was ablaze with fiery criticism, with almost everybody saying they would be closed within a month. However, 8.5 years on, as you saw, they are very busy, and Marco has proven his critics wrong. Incidentally, you can see Marco in your video putting pizza in the oven at 5.50 in the vlog. Gigi was the first restaurant in Sydney to undergo a vegan transformation. And following their success, other eateries have followed suit. But to be the first is bold, and I'm so glad bold seekers such as yourselves were able to have a Gigi experience😊
Wow Mike thank you so much for sharing this with us. ❤️ I (Mat) have been vegan for over 8 years now, so I’ve seen new vegan restaurants open and close where I come from and the second part is so heartbreaking (especially during covid). So I’m glad to have heard this beautiful thing about Gigi pizzeria. Marco must be a rock 🙌 Cannot wait to bring my mum there one day.. 😍
@@matandangie I very much appreciate what you are saying. Covid had a devastating impact on so many businesses here. We lost so many, and still plenty of places are struggling. So many of us locals do our best to share the love, and visit as many 100% vegan eateries as possible. I really hope you get to return with your Mother, and share Gigi and other delights of this city with her ❤️
