    Love your playing! It's interesting that if you take the lower 4 strings only, you get very much like Freddie Green's playing, and if you played the same chords in an alternating bass/chord style you get pretty close to Eldon Shamblin!

    Thanks Sven that G/B to BbDim was throwing me off with the fingerings I initially chose lol. This makes life easier.

    I have a similar guitar that I use for gypsy and straight ahead swing, may I ask what type of strings you use? I'm aiming for a similar tone. Love the the proper chords vids as always!

      Hi,
      I'm using Argentine Strings for the Höfner. The same that I play on my gypsy jazz guitars!

  • @henrypercy2688

    To the chord your refer to as Bb Dim, you have added an F# (on the B string) which isn't on the diminish scale I'm familiar with. Should I think of that as just a bit of extraneous colour? (as G resolves into Am7) Thanks.

      Sven's playing & videos are great. If I may humbly explain: I've seen him use this move before. If you're going to play the high G in the G/B and then slide the form down you have a Bb13#9#5. Good to know & great in this situation!

    Nice but even if gipsy players prefer straight comping behind solo( i say it by experience...lol). At the beginning we can play 1er G Am7 2eme Bm7 Bb° 3eme Am7 4eme D9 ( see Bireli jazz à Vienne 2002 with Serge Krief). it's a great tune . I love it

    • @SvenJungbeck
      @SvenJungbeck  5 лет назад

      Yes, some gypsy players today, try to play it more modern by using the "normal" jazzy voicing.

    I feel like the song isn't played this fast

    • @SvenJungbeck
      @SvenJungbeck  4 года назад +2

      It certainly is, depending on the version, but you are right concerning the sung versions. In Gypsy Jazz it is very often played that fast and faster by players like Bireli Lagrene, Dorado Schmidt, Adrien Moignard, Joscho Stephan, Stochelo Rosenberg etc.
      So on my channel I basically teach gypsy jazz techniques, chords and standards, that's why I play it here in a med - med up version.
      Warm regards,
      Sven

      @@SvenJungbeck Oh okay, yeah I'm trying to learn Ella Fitzgerald's version for this band. Do you recommend your chord shapes for her version? Does it even matter? I'm just now delving into playing jazz. I'd really appreciate knowing because other wise I'm just going to learn what you're teaching cuz you're faster at explaing things.

    • @SvenJungbeck
      @SvenJungbeck  4 года назад +1

      @@Banzo_ those chords are absolutely fine for any jazz style!
      Only the way of strumming should be varied. I will upload a video concerning jazz rhythm guitar, today, maybe that will help you!
      All the best,
      Sven

    why not post progression on lead sheet?k It would be easier to learn from for more advanced players compared to waiting for you to explain each chord.

    Nice voicings,but dude needs to not be looking at the camera every 2 seconds. And he doesn't need to be playing so flamboyantly. Cuz theres a thing called taste. Sorry just thought it was a little over-the-top. Like to hear this with some of vocalizing for content

    • @SvenJungbeck
      @SvenJungbeck  3 года назад +3

      Hey,
      I don't get your point here. It's a lesson and not a performance, so that's why I don't sing or anything.
      It's a demonstration of idiomatic chord voicings in gypsy jazz.
      If you teach something, its good to look at the student, in my view.
      Greetings, Sven
