  • Troops arrive at DFW Airport in Dallas Texas everyday from Iraq and Afghanistan for their 14 day R&R. This day was special as over 200 people cheered, sang and waved as the Troops came off the plane on the 2nd level on their way to the Customs Hall.

should be but rarer than you think......when i returned had a packed flight from germany...no one said anything to me till after i was getting off the plane...a stewardess gave me a kiss and the captain and co-pilot shook my hand......after getting off and making my way down to get my luggage, not a word.....went to get a taxi (took 30 min to find 1 at 3am).....got to my friends house picked up my keys to my house and cay..drove home to an empty house(wife divorced me while overseas..go figure)......and that how thousands come home every year.......no banners ,no clapping,..your just back and have to get on with life.

They actually do hold ceremonies for Vietnam vets now. Ofcourse the liberal media doesn't cover it but our boys from the Vietnam war are finally getting the welcome home they deserved back then. Its just sad that some have passed away never getting to hear our apology

Thank you to all the volunteers at DFW when I arrived at that airport. You won't believe how much those greetings, warm welcome and thanks thrown out to us meant to me and a lot of my buddies. I truly felt like I was in a safe and welcoming place which was a stark contrast to where I was not even 14 hours before. That truly made my day and I will never forget it till the day I die. THANK YOU!

Triple that, same in Sydney Australia , I enlisted but being a longhair a snot most rookie cop thought it would be funny to punch me on the back of the head, 3 hits and 6 others took me too cop car. At court the judge saw that I'd enlisted and was due to go to Pukapunyal next week and due to retaliation after being in was put on a bond. Next week had all my hair cut off, got one train at 4.30am so nobody could see me. It Central departure paraded up a warrant officer called me out and under circumstances in had to come back in a year, not happy. But when i saw the useless crap spitting on returning soldiers , I sort of planted them for disrespect, sides in don't like nancy activists. We used to take in Americans on R&R, for years, and every one of them where the most respectful men I've never met. Of course my Aunt married and American, my cousin married a lieutenant US military soldier, but he had a real attitude, divorced him and married another American and I don't know now many nephews I have. Have to ask young cousin, last of the family in Australia. God bless and look after every military personnel.

All the many times we have been in the DFW airport, we have never seen anything like this. .We did, however, one December give-up our seats so that a small group of Oregon National Guard people could fly home together for Christmas with their families. They would be going back on deployment after their Christmas leave. It was a small thing we could do for them, just a small way to show our appreciation for all they do for this country.

When I was a flight controller for Ryan Int'l, we flew a lot of those flights, and there was nothing I loved more than after briefing the Captain, then telling the Onboard Troop Commander that I was able to eliminate the Canadian Tech Stop, and today's Leipzig-Dallas is a nonstop flight; you might want to give your welcoming committee a head's up; your new ETA is around 7am... I hated working flights eastbound down range, but I loved working westbounds coming home.

I remember beign on a flight out of Milwaukee (Mitchell Int'l to Michigan) with guys that were from the Army I presume and they gave the pilot shit the whole way there until we landed (all in good fun naturally). After we touched down and stopped at the 1 of 2 gates...the pilot came on board for the 6 or 8 of us non-military people and told us "this was perhaps, the greatest and most memorable flight I've had in 35 years of flying...and as of today I'm retiring". I kid you not the flight was laughs the whole way from take off to touch down, and the pilot's shake at the end of the flight let me know...he knew when to end it ;) He was a Navy pilot and knew when to say his duty was done, he reached to shake my (13 year old hand) and I saluted him (I had 2 cousin in the military, one a Naval Officer on submarines and the other a flight instructor with the Air Force) this man earned it! His response was a salute, smile and a hug :P After telling him about my cousins he knew who the one was and actually was one of the guys who stopped at our place in their passing from the AF Academy to their stations for the night and thanked ME and my family for our hospitality. Military families respect military families liberal or not ya dig ;) (yes my family is hardcore liberal but i fall asleep knowing a .357 magnum keeps us safe at night :) )
