answer:
I keep loosing to ppl who had memorized tons of theory books, which is something by average brain is incapable of.
however when I play with an untrained 1400 where only observation and wit are at play, I'd say I have a pretty good chance.

I know that problem !
The solution is to play a minimalistic opening repertoire.
For example :
(White)
London System, or Reti Opening Setup
(Black)
Carokann vs e4
Queen's Gambit declined vs D4
And
Open Catalan against the Catalan.
