    My dad moved to Nevada, he also runs his own business. He paid for the new house and move entirely with the money he saved in taxes. You may want to think about college for the little ones as the cost of instate tuition for cal schools is significantly less. I hope you read this and find it helpful in your decision, Best wishes~

      Howard Kurtus eh but the quality of education at said cal schools is far less and is degrading. And with California in state tuition going up anyway because of idiotic politicians here it doesnt even matter. Their was a time when usc, ucla, even cal state schools held merit. But now schools in Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Washington and even nevada are all raising their quality of teachers and schools.

    • @howardkurtus7069
      @howardkurtus7069 6 лет назад +25

      It no longer matters what you learn but where you learn, the prestige factor is now the only competitive component of education. In an America where every one is college bound no one is job bound. The value of higher education is cheapened by the quantity of people who aspire to it. Going to college can screw you easily with costs but even more so with degrees that don't pay or just the school it self not having enough networking to get you a job because the professor your studying under doesn't have a friend at google or some other company to put a good word in for you. The world is full of over qualified people what gets you a job now is knowing people. This is true for most of the sciences and to certain degree for the business side of things. It is my opinion that college is for science and business only. If you want to do anything else become a skilled laborer like a wood worker or electrician, they pay better than most degrees out of college and with an early start on a mutual fund or any other low risk investment your kid can aspire to their dream while having the capital to fall back on as they have a stable job. This is purely my opinion based on what I have read, and people I have known. It is my opinion that your child should get money in an investment as soon as possible, this allows them the freedom to aspire to goals without an empty resume and a student debt.
      Thank you for reading this far, I look forward to an enlightening counter-statement.

      I agree with you tech schools are a good idea, and schools in general need to be reformed.

    • @howardkurtus7069
      @howardkurtus7069 6 лет назад +1

      I agree with you as well, a reform in the concept of having government shouldering the expense ignores the fact that the government could place a price sealing on the max a given school can charge (This would be much like how large cities put a limit on apartment pricing). The demand for education is practically endless, so much like housing a government enforced top price would allow for a purer form of academic competition.

    • @Billybillybillyrocking
      @Billybillybillyrocking 6 лет назад +5

      Howard Kurtus I agree with a lot of what you said but some I do not as well. I thoroughly believe that the education system is wrong at the core from elementary to 12th grade. But thats another conversation. Junior colleges, state colleges, and universities are investing in their schools to have better education to expand and have more students attend to compete with other schools. I am also of the notion that you do not need to go to a "top" tier school all 4 or 5 years to have a top level education. Smaller uc schools and even some jc's here in California specifically have been improving each year. Utilizing junior colleges to get undergraduate classes done while maybe living at home is dual benefit of a good education and low cost. People change majors around 3 to 5 times on average. Wasting money at an expensive uni for classes they wont use in the field they stick with. This is what I believe cheaper junior colleges should be used for. To find what you want to do, but still getting education. Doing incredibly well in lower colleges will let you move up the ladder to bigger ones and bigger after that. And you are correct that only a couple fields need schooling. Otherwise trade schools could be more beneficial. Or just straight into the work force. People waste money on bs majors where their is no market for it. And that is the problem with California. Californian youth on average dont work hard. They look for easy handouts to get. They don't want a 9 to 5 wheres Its demanding work with basic pay. They want the high paying 12 to 5 that pays 18$ an hour, and they do nothing. Which right now is dismantling California's economy with wage increases. And it starts back in younger education and home life. Core values that were taught when i was young and before are not taught today. 10 to 12 year olds come into the store i work at and have a credit card in their name.... They dont understand how credit even works yet they have a card. Parents dont take responsibility of their children and expect everyone else to do it. Teachers dont get help from parents or the school to help the children actually advance. School is now a day care for parents to work all day and pick them up after. And when they do get home they don't follow up with their kids homework or how they are doing in school and how they can improve. And then they are surprised when little jimmy is failing all his classes. Society needs to be cut off from welfare programs, and aids that are so easy to get a guy working 60 hours a week can still get them. Welfare and these programs are for people seriously in trouble. Not people that may have it a little hard right now. Cut back on government programs, start teaching kids young value of money and work, teach teens life essentials like mortgage, credit, taxes, and other "adult" things we take care of. And finally teach older teens and young adults that no one owes you anything. The job you have doesnt belong to you and can be taken away. The apartment you rent can be taken away. And that you have to act to get some thing back. Long and really exhausted response but thanks if you read it all the way.

    I like the little bits where you tell us how the running the channel is like (expenses, logistics, and stuff). It keeps the channel real by not simply being a product review/built attempts channel where viewers don't get to see what the person behind running the channel is like. Personally, I prefer the semi-vlog type of videos. Loving the channel so far. :)

Also, as far as moving your stuff, you can get some fellow tech friends to help or even have some fans come to help you. I would sure come help but I am in Ohio so there is that lol. My wife and I left southern California to move to PNW for work, as she has a very niche career.
    We left our entire family, on both sides, for this move. I left my career of 10 years. We both were not happy in San Diego.
    Moving here has been the BEST thing that we could have done in the past year.
    We are both so much happier in our work spaces, I get to youtube and upload every week for tutorials, my job only has me working Monday-Thursday to sync up with my wife's schedule, I have my Etsy shop working away.
    I mean, it took us a year to get settled and find a rythem but it was so incredibly worth it.
    I hate to say it Jay, as I still absolutely love SoCal and it will always be home for me, but moving was the best decision of our lives.
    Good luck my dude. I seriously hope it all works out. If you move to Oregon, I'll work for you!

    Man Jay, I've been going through the same thing for years. I live in Hawaii, born and raised, and jobs and cost of living here is terrible. I've been wanting to move for awhile now, but my whole family is here, my grandmas are both 80, my dads still working and all that but hes not in the healthiest shape, and the rest of my family is very close. As much as I want to leave, I was raised learning that family is everything, so I stay here, and probably will indefinitely (at least for another decade or two, we'll see). Plus now I've got some health issues that seem to be a mystery. But yeah, sorry to blabber, I just know the feeling, it's not easy. I know my life could be far better and more comfortable elsewhere, but family is family, and leaving to go elsewhere would definitely be the biggest decision ever for me. And @ least ur in the mainland, u can drive wherever once in awhile. I'm stuck on a tiny rock u can drive across in a little over an hour :P do what you feel is best for u, you'll probably be happier :)

Small kine scary making the move to someplace you have no family or know anyone, but it was the best decision I ever made. The moving of the studio wouldn't be as bad as you think. A few people to load it up and a 26' UHaul truck, and a couple of hours of time would allow you to pack up most of the studio if you had it boxed up the day before. Unloading always seems easier than loading. It would be a tiring day, but I'm sure you could get the truck loaded, drive to vegas, and unload in 1 day. You just need to plan ahead and have the new studio location painted and prepped ahead of time to make it a quick and easy setup.

      Northern Arizona, Southern Utah or Southern Colorado are nice. Not as hot as Phoenix or Tucson. Not really a big city atmosphere in Flagstaff but everything you need is there at the same time. The cost of living is waaay better than San Diego or Southern California though. No idea what business taxes are like, though I can't imagine them being worse than California. Whatever you decide I hope it all goes smooth for you. I'm bias towards the southwest being from Arizona originally. Living in Maryland now I can say for certain I love the west a lot more and miss the wide open roads and canyons in Arizona. As a car/driving enthusiast you just cant beat the west in terms of scenery for a long relaxing cruise on a nice sunny day. One of my favorite drives is from Globe to Show Low on US 60 through the Salt River Canyon. Absolutely beautiful views through there.
      Edit: Other reasons for moving to Southern Utah or Northern Arizona. No earthquakes or extremely rare, No tornadoes or extremely rare, No hurricanes, May get some decent snow occasionally, but rarely a blizzard, doesn't flood very often.
      On the flip side you may have to deal with Black widows (though they are all over SoCal too), Rattlesnakes, Centipedes, and Coyotes. Nothing a little knowledge and bug spray can't take care of though.

    Hey Jay!
    I think you should move the TV and the couch from upstairs down in front of the kitchen area along with getting rid of the coffee table so you have a walkway. Maybe the TV on the side opposite of the stairwell then the couch next to the stairwell facing across. Then utilize the space up top for your extra boxes (like the ultrawide ones) and what not.
    Also, get out of Cali!

    I agree with your thoughts of leaving California. The taxes are crazy. Maybe you should look into some other states that are tech friendly with more reasonable tax laws. Texas is one that is on the rise for tech. There are several notable youtube companies there. Rooster teeth is a big one that comes to mind. Plus I believe there is no state income tax. You can keep a lot more of the money you work for.

      Speaking as someone who's lived in Texas for nearly two decades I can confidently say it's a shit hole, do NOT move here. Sure there's no income taxes, but it has the highest property taxes in the country. Not to mention, Jay has school age kids, which means he will be paying out of pocket for absolutely fucking everything, except the multi-million dollar high school football stadiums.

      My family moved to Texas in the 90s and never looked back. I'm currently in California visiting family and I can say that the cost of living in California is just the tip of the iceberg. Besides gas being $1.20 above what I pay in southern Houston, there are the increasingly crazy regulations by overly zealous politicians. You can't even get plastic bags in the supermarkets or anywhere in California without paying or bringing your own bag (and forget double-bagging), right Jay?

      There is a lot more to Illinois than the NE corner. I live in Iowa, literally looking out my living room window I can see Illinoi across the Mississippi River, and the taxes across the entire state are rediculous. I work and know many people across the river and what they pay is a huge jump over what we pay here.

      I'm in Des Moines, I know a lot of people who have moved here from California and can get 2-3 times the house here for the money they spend out there. And for businesses it's pretty good, commercial space from what I've seen you can get 3-4000 sqft of space for between $1500-2500 depending on area and those are decent areas. I'm sure taxes for businesses are much lower too.

      That would be too good for me imho because i also live here.
      Internet speed is depending on where you live, it varies from 16 to 500 mbit A-DSL, best would be if the house he'd get then has a coax-cable-tv connection, then you can get up to 500 mbit. But when he'd just build a new house, he could get FTTH when he asks the telekom. And then 1 Gbit to go
      But i'm really happy with 200 mbit here, you also can upgrade to 50 mbit upload.
      Germany also has the upside of the good healthcare system, and when you have a business you can do a lot to save money and get a lot of taxes back. I think it'd be a really easy living here for him with that big fanbase in his back. But i'd wait after what happens with this new upload-filter law made by the eu government and how really bad it'll be.
      Also Jay: We have the autobahn, drive as fast as you want at the most parts of it, yes it is possible, already drove 280 km/h with my car :P
      Edit: It's also possible to look what internet speed is possible online on the different providers, at least when you already have the full adress of the house, If you'd really consider that, i wouldn't mind help you out in some way and explain how it would be living here

    You would gain room for 1 or 2 more shelves upstairs.
    The couch looks like it would fit in with the newly painted wall.

    I'm a Office Manager for a company that works in different states. It is absolutely insane how different states can cost a business. With the type of business you run it makes absolute sense for you to get out of a high tax high real estate prices state and do to one thats a little bit more remote and much less on the expenses. It will help the channel survive bad times and help pay for camero tires during the good times. Or move in with the Barn Nerd and do a reality tv show haha, I can just picture the odd couple theme music you guys could use now. As a guy who just got done redoing his garage, overhead storage is a godsend. I gained so much more car part storage doing overhead shelving its not even funny.
