My Hispanic liberal friend did the same thing. He went to a Trump rally as an experiment, and was completely shocked about how inviting and welcoming everybody was toward him. It was nothing like how the media depicts these events.

I knew that a long time ago; They don't have "peaceful protests" at their rally's. They just get together and have a good time without violence.
And if violence erupts then it gets stopped since the majority of them are cops and military.

I'm not a conservative, and that's been my experience. If I disagree with a liberal, I'm a 'far right extremist', and I need to be killed for disagreeing because I'm every bad term they can think of. When I disagree with a conservative, they'll debate me about it, but in the end accept that we're just people with different opinions. Not to mention, I've found plenty of conservatives who don't agree with everything their party says, but obviously any liberal who disagrees on anything gets ruthlessly attacked.

Republic just refers to a nation that is nominally run by commoners. In the case of ancient Rome this was the Equites, essentially nobles but not called that - they made up the Senate. The Roman Empire still called itself a Republic and had a Senate, a Republic has little to do with the form of government so you can be a democratic republic like America or a socialist republic like communist era Russia. The only point in saying that America is a republic is to emphasize the distancing from the former form of government under the British which was a monarchy. A republic could be democratic, fascist or communist/socialist. So if you're not a democratic republic then what kind of republic would you prefer - oligarchic, socialist, authoritarian, theocratic?

A journalist once wrote a story about she being a liberal went to a Trump really and she was surprised at the reception she received even though she told everyone she was a liberal. She said that there was no judgement, no criticism and no hatred towards her. On the contrary, the people there were friendly, inviting and happy for me to be there and share our thoughts with no arguments. I guess the Republicans are not what the media paints us out to be.
