Some basic things that aren't spoilers but explain your confusion / lack of knowledge: - Every game has its own storyline. While they almost all start in vaults in some form or shape, they tend to be in wildly different areas of the US, and every vault is quite distinct in its own way. The location / story of this particular vault and show is similarly unique and not a 1:1 copy of the plot of the original games, but its own entire journey. - The introduction of Lucy is basically a homage to character creation in the games, where you in some sort of way decide the strengths of your character based on how you want to play the game. Playstyles include characters who like sneaking around, those who like to blow stuff up and those who just like to talk things out with people, so there's skills like lockpicking, speech for social graces, etc. Everything remotely 'not the world around you' in the games is accessed through the pipboy on your characters wrist: in the game, it is used to identify how healthy you are, the things you had on you, the map of the local area, radio stations you pick up and so on. Think of it as a modern day phone with a geiger counter than can't make calls and has the tech-level of the 50s, and you've nailed it. - Ghouls are one of the groups of mutated creatures people on the surface turned into due to the radiation. They can be roughly be classified into two categories: those who were merely affected in the physical sense (basically ugly-ass zombies that are bullet sponges), and those who were driven mad by the change and turned feral in the process, trying to kill and eat anything that moves. The existence of the latter causes immense racism to the former group who can technically still function in normal human society just fine. Since all games are situated in different parts of the US, there's different 'flavors' of ghouls in every game that can probably be blamed on different nukes with different amounts of radiation and local fauna affecting the change, so if you know ghouls from the games, they may not necessarily by a total stylistic match. Long story short: while it is the same world as the games, there is a huge amount of freedom this show has compared to other game adaptations in terms of the story they'd like to tell, and they make full use of it despite the inclusion of tons of references to the games.
@@Smido83 Keep going! It gets better and better every episode. And it also keeps the games lore and aesthetics perfectly in canon with the world and is actually made as part of the games universe timeline as well, being set the latest in the timeline of any story we have had in any game. So all the games have happened, and if you've played them some things are MAJOR callbacks to the prior games (Such as the Airship that arrived with the Knights was a big setpiece in Fallout 4). But even for new people they will answer pretty much all of your questions pretty well within the first 4-5 episodes, and then give you a banger of story on top. TLDR; Give it a few more episodes and don't worry. You'll get your questions answered. ;)
The Fallout show producers built a real-life "Filly" wasteland village for "Fallout" to promote the show at the SXSW Festival in March in Austin, TX. There are Fallout Lore youtube channels. I highly recommend giving them a watch. The Fallout Lore is insanely huge, since the games have been going since the 90's and the Studios that made the games love to add more to the story of the World each game.
Fun trivia everything is bulky, 50s looking because they don't use transistors, chips. It's sn alternative timeline but despite 50s atomage vibe zhe bombs fell in 2077. So other things are better like medications, that stimpack Lucy used.
In the Fallout universe the bombs fell October 23, 2077 Saturday morning. The first nuke hit the east coast at 945am and the west coast right after. For 2 hours bombs continuously fell on the US and China. One can only imagine the hell on Earth those 2 hours must've felt and looked like. Although the show changed the time of the bombing, still the same day just later on in the day, it still did amazing in capturing the horror one may have witnessed that day. Ghouls are just mutated human beings who were exposed to massive amounts of radiation all at once. They arent immortal but rather they age at an incredibly slow rate. they can live for decades longer and some even hundreds of years like Walter Goggins character, who is the oldest known Ghoul in the show which is why he is so known and why he is referred to as ''The Ghoul". In the games you meet alot of ghouls who were alive when the bombs fell. The one downside to being a ghoul, besides looking like a walking corpse, is the fear of turning Feral. Ghouls brains deteriorate due to the amount of radiation in their bodies and will continue to deteriorate until they have no control or sense of who they are anymore. To put it simply, when a ghoul goes feral youre essentially dealing with a mindless zombie and the person that you once knew is gone. The show changed the lore on ghouls and ferals a bit but nothing too drastic
Just mentioning it for the fallout game fans. You can play fallout 4 on VR using Meta Quest 2 or 3. Its really cool to experience the apocalypse in full 3D.
Now you are young, to those of us growing up during The Cold War that intro is what we feared would happen- every day. But we lived our lives. When I teach my The History of The Cold War classes, I always start by showing them a five minute video of nuclear explosions with eerie music, to make your generation understand what it all was- and what you will have to get used to again with Putoloni's sabre-rattling (though he is too much of a coward to do it). During the Cold War, the USSR was planning to open the war by dropping 600+ merely on my little Denmark. The game is set in an alternative timeline, where the transistor was never invented, so everything used vacuum-tubes like early computers. And thus the timeline starts diverging from ours in the year after WW2, and progress is generally much slower. But there is also no Cuban Missile Crisis, Long Island, etc, and no reckoning with its past, so the US carries on in a sort of Truman-Eisenhower Superamerica with nuclear powered cars, etc. But in the 21st century fossil fuels and other resources starts running out, and The Resource Wars starts; where Europe, Africa and The Middle East is torn apart, and China invades Alaska to get the last remaining oil resource on the planet. And in 2077... Boom. And oh yea, the US turns authoritarian semi-Fascist, a bit like Starship Troopers. The Brotherhood has fallen back in that tradition after a couple of good and humanitarian leaders, and become the SS of the Fallout Universe. Anyway, think of the game and series as set in a sort of retro-futuristic post apocalypse, IE a future as imagined in the fifties, but then add a nuclear exchange of superpowers. In the games you find all those tragic and dark stories as you explore the Wasteland, the series show them, but both do a very good job of what good SciFi should; holding up a dark mirror to humanity- and with Fallout it is really dark.
Fun fact: according to Fallout lore, most nuclear warheads had a yield of 200-750 kilotons, normally, being this close to a bomb yield this big would mean they would be incinerated by the heat pulse instantly
no you won't. thermal radation radius for 750Kt bomb would about 10KM, and will "only" give 3rd degree burns and not "incinerate" you. They were much further away than 10KM of the blast. Still in the pressure blast though, which would be about 18KM.
So a bit of non-spoiler-y background information that doesn't really get explained in the show: The Fallout world basically diverges from ours in the 1940s. Transistor-based technology (specifically micro-transistors, the things that make computers and any compact advanced electronics possible) is never invented. This is why everything is big and chunky and looks like it was designed in the 50s. Instead nuclear technology advances rapidly and becomes part of many everyday household items (the cars, for example, are all nuclear powered). This is why everything has a 1950s retro sci-fi look (and because it evokes that weird 1950s vintage optimism mixed with the ever present threat of nuclear war). Lucy is modelled on a prototypical player character from the franchise. In many of the games you start out as a vault dweller who has to venture to the surface for one plot contrivance or another (in the very first game it was because the water purification system was broken and you had to go find a part, so the show did a bit of a nod to that). The montage of her explaining her skills is kind of like the character setup where you choose your stats and skills. The syringes you see in the show are Stim-paks which are the game's major source of healing. This is one thing that I like in the show. It treats itself like it is the game. When you use a Stim-pak in the game, it heals every thing instantly. Even broken bones. The Brotherhood of Steel is a faction that was born out of remnants of the US military based around a pseudo-religious, militaristic tech cult. That's probably kind of obvious given their organization, but there is a direct connection back to the pre-war era, and most of their tech is ex-military from that era, just salvaged and maintained. Depending on the game/location (the games are set in several different locations around the US, with the originals set on the west coast, and the newer games on the east coast, and New Vegas set in, well, Vegas) they can range from fascistic antagonists to chivalric allies depending on the chapter. Much like the medieval knights they're based on. The other big faction to get a mention in this episode was The Enclave. Where the BoS are remnants of the US military, The Enclave are the remnants of the US government along with anyone else they deemed worthy of surviving the apocalypse - the best and brightest of science and industry. They're a tad... elitist, as you can probably imagine, looking down on most of the other survivors, and preferring to interact and manipulate events from the shadows or a distance. Unlike the BoS who focus on collecting and preserving old world tech, The Enclave continued to innovate and advance. Stimpaks, the thing Lucy injects herself with, are the main healing item in the game. So you'll see a bit of video game logic here where a shot will cure any basic wound. And unlike a bunch of other video game adaptations, this show is actually considered canon within the same world as the games. So that's just kinda neat. Keep up the good work.
I can understand the reluctance of the other vault leaders to go after Lucy's dad when he, as overseer, had a duty to the vault and its whole population, and instead chose to save his daughter over everyone else. Of course, that test was more to see his honor and sense of duty, and moldaver let the hostages go, but he made it clear he was a good father but a poor leader at that moment.
When it comes to the story of the show it is not based on any of the games but is based in the same universe, so this is just the story of Lucy and her vault that where not covered in the games and in the timeline the events of the show happen long after the events of the last game but we will see some familiar things
Its like a monastry? kind of ,the Brother Hood is modeled after medieval religious orders of Knights, such as the Knights Templar. Did you notice they offered Maximus something to bite down on during branding and he turned it down. You wouldn't remember anything about the series from the games, this is an original story that takes place about nine years after Fallout Four. The series is more like fallout three and New Vegas.

Can't wait to see your other reactions to the other episodes.

Omg I love that yall just finished one of my favorite anime’s in AoT and now you’re starting so many of my favorite other shows right after I’m so excited! ^^
The West Coast Brotherhood of Steel is more like a quasi-religious paramilitary order compared to their East Coast counterparts. This is why you see a lot of religious type ceremonies and symbolism here. You see this in Fallout 1 and 2 since they take place in the West Coast.

20:05 "What the HÆUGHEUHECK" 😂
First, JJK and now this?! You ladies are on a roll!
Ok girls... if you two watch it, i will watch it!
*will be back in 50 minutes*
Correction... 70 minutes! 😳
Ok... this 1st Episode was... interesting.
Not sure where this will go, but I am interested in the characters.
You'll get your questions answered. ;)
26:55 haha that look to the camera @🐕
The Fallout show producers built a real-life "Filly" wasteland village for "Fallout" to promote the show at the SXSW Festival in March in Austin, TX. It was free for me to go and I got a Vault 33 pin, real Nuka Cola (tastes kinda like mango!), got to shoot a junk thrower and saw all the real actors and show props. Anyone can check out photos of the event online.
4:58 This scene reminded me of setting your stats are the start of the game, like: Athletics 4, Charisma 7 etc or whatever it was.
This series did GREAT to pay tribute to the games, I actually grew up playing the original Fallout 1 and 2 which were a little different than 3 and onwards. Highly recommend all the games though, the world building is so unique and fun to explore, it's why nobody ever finishes the games because you're too busy just wandering around and checking everything out. Love you both. 🧡
This is so true. I've never finished a fallout game lmao
The Golden Rule of the Wastelands
Great reaction! Btw; when you said Aspirant Maximus is a cool name; Maximus is his name, Aspirant was his title before being promoted to Squire. it's basically the same as "recruit" but with a more religious connotation.
Walton Goggins acted HIS ASS OFF in this role.
played all the games, started 25 years ago,. love the game world., Could not get myself started on the tv series,. didnt want it to ruin my game world :D i've only seen the intro part with the thumb,. it was so powerfull, heard good things, hope you are gonna enjoy it,.
You ladies had me rolling with laughter. I'm soo in for this journey! Thanks for this cause fallout is one of my favs.
If you like the Ghoul, you can also check out Walton Goggins in The Shield (fx tv series), Justified, and The Righteous Gemstones.
Was hoping for another Mike Flanagan show at some point, but this is honestly a nice pallete cleanser. Love this series, season 1 actually did a great job
Im so happy right now, been hoping you to adorable ladies would react to this outstanding show and now you are doing it, my happiness cannot be measured.
I'm a huge fan of fallout, played since Fallout 2. And I might be an even bigger fan of Haylo & Kiss! 🤭 I'm so glad you are doing this show! It's a nice way to cope with AoT ending!
Ella Purnell Is British btw
Loved this series! So exited to watch your reactions to it!!! I have a feeling this will be a very highly viewed reaction for y’all. Always good to pic stuff for different demographics! 🙃. Y’all rock!! ❤
Walton Goggins who is the Ghoul is an incredible actor. Great Reaction, cant wait for the rest of this series.
17:28 I also love JC. I always loved fallouts music and I think they did a great job for the show
This is going to be a very fun journey. Thanks for taking us along with you. 🤗
😁👍
The Enclave is the remnants of the U.S. Government. They have access to the best tech...
But were almost destroyed in fallout 1
**sorry fallout 2 not 1**
Fallout 2.
Oh yea ... Frank was on the rig.....
** what they ^ said
Y'all hopped from a wonderful reaction to Attack on Titan, probably my favorite show of all time, to watching Fallout, the show I'm currently obsessed with? I swear, y'all are targeting me personally and it's WORKING
17:57 their are a lot of Easter eggs from the game that are background stuff like the sugar bombs you caught reference from.
This show is greay! Enjoy the ride!
I recommend "Ted Lasso" as well, a wholesome show :)
Awesome Reaction, you're going to love this series! Could you react to the new Heretic Trailer please? Also, Walton Goggins, the actor who plays Ghoul Cooper, is up from an Emmy for his role 👍
i love you two you are so sweet and emotionally intelligent and thoughtful. its really heartwarming to watch you two. please do more jjk! and yes im on patreon
And I have returned my eyeballs. I look forward to suitably blown minds by the finale.
Yay. Glad you two are watching this.
This is a show that just gets better as the season progresses and ends really strong.
It's your uncle Baby Billy!
Y’all have some great taste in shows
Just finished this first season and it was really really good. Very well written, beautiful cinematography, nice characters, lot of plot twist. 10/10!
The "Outro" sequences are very good and give some clues/info ;)
A show that could be made for you girls. You're going to love it. They did a great job both for fallout fans and a more casual audience.
This show got me playing FO3 & NV..Just downloaded FO: London. The music is great in the show. FYI, Lucy = New Player.
you probably saw ghouls in fallout 4 but its usually the feral ones, they basically act like zombies
I'm guessing she never traveled with Hancock, or did much settlement building.
yous are going to love this series, an amazing show and great tribute to the games
Surprised yall didn’t already see this yet. I’m happy to watch it with yall tho
Ghouls in Fallout universe their lifespans are greatly extended which allows them to live for hundreds of years.
I remember Haylo's little side-eyes to camera from the Arcane reaction; glad to see them back 😏
Just mentioning it for the fallout game fans. You can play fallout 4 on VR using Meta Quest 2 or 3. Its really cool to experience the apocalypse in full 3D.
Love you reacting to this and haley looking to camera when they showed dogmeat was great
Crawl out through the _FALLOUT_ baby!
So excited you're starting this
Yay!!! I love that you are reviewing this! I liked it so much. They stayed so true to the game and all its weirdness. Thanks for the review!
4:25 I am pretty sure that he picked the horse because he came with it plus he also wanted to save the horse too.
Ya'll analyzing skills are ridiculous, and I love it!
Yall will enjoy this show. It’s a crazy wild ride
So excited for this journey, love this show sm
Heck yay! So glad to see you two take this journey. I'm all in with you!
The Ghoul is the man from the beginning
Whenever Kiss goes "eugh, hjöölk, ääulghhh" (about to vomit) and Haylo is like 😐is my favorite part of any reaction.
When it comes to the story of the show it is not based on any of the games but is based in the same universe, so this is just the story of Lucy and her vault that where not covered in the games and in the timeline the events of the show happen long after the events of the last game but we will see some familiar things
Awesome, so glad you ladies are watching this one!
You're in for a ride!
Great reaction ladies.
You guys are in for a good ride with this show.
Me: *sees the ghoul for the 1st time* "OMG IT'S RED SKULL'S COWBOY COUSIN!" 😆
You are now one of their elite employees had me rolling.
You start Fallout 4 on the day of the nuclear strikes and for a short time play before the bombs drop.
I love you, ladies, y'all are watching all of the gems 💎. I'm geeking that you played Fallout 4. It's 1 of my favorites, and yes, ghouls are in the games, and they're the 1's that haven't turned feral...yet. there was a while town filled with ghouls in Fallout 3 since they are outcasts. Can't wait to see your other reactions to the other episodes.
My ladies are back! It eouldnt be a haylo and kiss reaction without the gagging! Lol
After watching their Band of Brothers and Chernobyl reactions (both were great) I have been waiting and hoping top see them react to this series.
As a huge Fallout fan I was not really excited about this show, but after watching the first episode that all changed.
I just finished watching the last episode, how is that possible?
Omg I love that yall just finished one of my favorite anime’s in AoT and now you’re starting so many of my favorite other shows right after I’m so excited! ^^
Thst inhaler is called jet it's supposed to be like a stamina booster drug
The West Coast Brotherhood of Steel is more like a quasi-religious paramilitary order compared to their East Coast counterparts. This is why you see a lot of religious type ceremonies and symbolism here. You see this in Fallout 1 and 2 since they take place in the West Coast.
I just discovered your channel and I love it! You earned yourself a new subscriber! Can't wait to see more.
i was surprised how good this show turned out to be!
No internet. No electrisity. No water. No people. Just wastland.
