I bought the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus double pack and I played ICO first simply because "You Were There" was the song they played at the selection screen...
Felt the exact same way. To be honest, the soundtrack drug me through all of the puzzles I was about to give up on because I just wanted to hear more. Such a great game
+samehada187 I don't know how, but the artwork for ICO on the selection and "You Were There" just fit so well together. The artwork isn't a bunch of high fantasy stuff, it's actually very plain, which adds to the mystery of the game for me.
+Ragnash That's exactly what happened to me. Someone lend me his copy of the game and I was decided to just go for Shadow of the Colossus but when the menu screen appeared I just couldn't ignore ICO because of the song. So chose if first.
When I played ICO for the first time when I was 10-years-old, I thought to myself, "Well, this is the weirdest f*cking game I have ever bought," but then I played it again when I was 14-years-old and I thought it was incredible.
Hi everyone! To start, thank you for your great support in form of clicks, likes and especially your unique comments! :) Totally forgot to mention that there are news to The Last Guardian a game developed by Team Ico and Fumito Ueda. It's the spiritual successor of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, was reintroduced at last year E3 and will release on PS4 in 2016. I can't wait for this title, take a look: ruclips.net/video/zXLZvsSmBIs/видео.html Jepedillo

Just played this game for the first time. The music and epic soundscapes are such big part of what makes this game so magical. I tried to be strong and not cry at the end :) Playing Shadow of the Colossus now
I never got to play Ico but Shadow of The Colossus and The Last Guardian are two of my favorite games. It’s a shame that I never got to play this classic.
i was only 8 when i first played this master piece. i still remember the evenings sitting on my dad's pc to play, being hours in it, sometimes jus looking at it, enjoying the music
Gorgeous soundtrack. SoTC has the better one objectively but ICO's just has more meaning for me personally. Thx for the upload, definitely the best quality on youtube. :)
Isn't it coincidence that Oshima also did the score for Masaaki Tezuka's Godzilla films (Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla: Tokyo SOS), while Kow Otani who composed music for Shadow of the Colossus worked on the score for Shusuke Kaneko's GMK and Heisei Gamera trilogy?
Darkness is just a amazing moment in the game's story-line. It's the moment where so many mysteries about the game are told just by observation; such as "What are the shadow monsters?", "Why was I placed in that stone cage in the beginning?" and "Where is anyone in this castle?" *SPOILERS DOWN BELOW* The reveal is that other people with horns were sent to the castle aswell and were somehow turned into the shadow creatures that you've fought off the entire game. It's a dark twist that is amazing because of how you just have to observe the last segment of the game to notice. Its a shame that some of the other mysteries of the game were ruined because the Shadow Queen just blandly expositioned it all.
I remember when I first picked up Ico. I was in my teens at Electronics Boutique and only had like $20 bucks to spend on a PS2 game. ICO was in a bin of games on clearance. I randomly picked it up and was like screw it I’ll give it a shot. Still my favorite game to this day along with all of Team Ico’s sequels. There’s no game I’ve played more than this one - really enjoyed the novel as well. Now we need a movie of either Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and/or The Last Guardian!

It reminds me of the boss in that game.) 20:59 2:1220:21 similar
About those similar ones with the same 3-note phrase: 2:12 See Yorda the first time. 7:12 Free Yorda from cage. Spoiler: 20:21 Yorda carries Ico to the boat. The timing is a little different on PS3 version unfortunately. It switches to You Were There a little earlier.
+Alan As much as I liked SOTC more, personally, ICO is an amazing game and truly a form of autonomous, ludic art that comunicates with the player in the same, silent, subtle manner you saw in SOTC. If you haven't played it yet, get hype!
15:44 This is hands down the creepiest fucking track holy shit... for some reason my brain pictures when this is playing I imagine Pablo Picassos painting of Guernica as the bombs come down... Don't ask me why... Also, The music really would fit a sort of horror game in Guernica after the bombings with monsters... I guess I'm not sleeping tonight
Awesome soundtrack...me and my woman got totally stunned by the songs...it combines folk rock and electronic music in such a genially way...and the boys voice in the beautiful song was thrilling, its a real heart opener and can even exist as a masterwork of music without game...guess we will play the game too,so curious how it is,i only heard good from it ;)
I recently played (and finished) ICO and Shadow of the Colosus for the first time. Mechanically they haven't aged too well, mostly because several modern games have based some of their features around ICO's climbing and SOTC open world design, and polished them through these two most recent generations. From design perspective they are like two fascinating time capsules; or maybe two beautifully crafted templates for some popular modern game mechanics (and the music is fabulous). I can't wait to try The Last Guardian. I'm really curious on the direction they ended up taking in its design, and how it compares against ICO, SOTC and modern games gameplay.
"Mechanically they haven't aged too well" have to call bs on this; what you are noticing is simply that many modern games are intensely derivative. It actually means that the game's mechanics have aged WELL if many games still copy its mechanics to this day.
cool man Call it as you like. As derivative as they are, modern controls feel more tight and precise than ICO's (and button's default assignment in SotC are pretty awkward for today standards). If a modern game was released with the exact same controls than back then, it would be criticized without doubt.
Danthek Bat. I have never played Call of Duty. lol. Have you any real refutes to my observations or will you keep making uninspired accusations? PS: Art has to move you and design does not. My observations are from a design viewpoint because I know nothing about art. And you?
While not as epic as Shadow of the Colossus, this is a pretty good soundtrack, I'm just surprised at how short it is, I really should play through this game since of how revered it is in the gaming community.
What Doth Life I played SotC before and ICO was a dream in comparison. A far better game personally! SotC was a Love/Hate thing. Absolutely incredible art, aesthetic, music and design but actually playing it was another matter. Whereas ICO was a pleasure to both play and experience.
Solid Snake I came here after I played the last guardian first and then Ico. im going to play shadow of collosus next week. hope it will as good as the others
I just started playing Ico yesterday, with no knowledge of it other than that it was an extremely atmospheric puzzle game with light combat and that it was similar to the Rudi quest in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. No doubt I fucking HATED that Rudi quest with a passion, but since I adore atmospheric games and saw a few gorgeous pictures from it, I decided to go in blind and am currently at a cool looking place with a waterfall. I have a lot of questions as to the backstory right now- Not only do I wonder what the ending will be like (Normally I have a faint idea but with this I'm just blank), but I wonder what Yorda's relationship is with her supposed mother and what those shadows in general are. Are they protectors sent by her mother? I'm also wondering if/what the reason is for the shadows to take the form of birds and/or spiders, because this seems like the last game to skip over symbolism. The guards meant to protect and keep Yorda from getting out is my current theory right now but I guess we'll see. Assuming that thing was even actually her mother at all, I also have questions as to what Yorda might have been doing in a cage in a building/prison meant to sacrifice little horned children at all???? Either way, I'm looking forward to the answers and will update when I progress or finish the game. It's absolutely gorgeous and I love the dynamic between the two though words are hardly exchanged at all. For whatever reason, I really like the concept of two people who can't speak the other's language going to adventure together, it leaves a lot of good moments for "show don't tell" in the relationship. I think I'll get back to playing it after listening to this OST, actually.
A mighty good soundtrack but I dare to believe that there is any connection, but 11:05 & 11:43 sounds very similar to tracks in the Silent Hill series.
TokenGo is an excellent platform, you can buy from just one coin. There is little time left, there is still a chance not to miss and buy coins of TOKENGO at a bargain price, and in the future it will be possible to sell much more expensive.
Make your kid watch Peter pan he won't grow up, he'll dream of flying his whole life when he still won't just go get a pilot's license bc that's work. Make him play ico he'll be an upstanding citizen if you remind him he did years ago. It's easy to forget after a decade. "Forget" I mean.
Heal is one of the best pieces of music I have ever heard in my life.
Absolutely love that track, thanks for the tip!
Agreed
This song has been stuck in my head for 20 years
No, the ICO soundtrack was composed by Michiru Oshima and Kōichi Yamazaki. Michiru Oshima also worked on the The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess OST and created some orchestral arrangements for it.
I have added this information to the description. Sorry but I completely forgot to mention that :/
Ico is absolutely beautiful. It is just so unique and immersive. And to top it all off they make the soundtrack.
Which is truely rare in ps 2 games
Without this game, The Souls series wouldn’t be a Thing is due to Miyazaki that got inspired by this game.
The concept of light and dark in this game is astounding.
I bought the ICO and Shadow of the Colossus double pack and I played ICO first simply because "You Were There" was the song they played at the selection screen...

the ending really touched me imensly.. i think only the game Nier moved me that much as well
i make sure to always lock my room when i listen to this sond.. would be super embrassing if some friend saw tears roll down XD
This game had changed my sense of values in video game. This was unique, different from those usual. I am happy to have memories with it.

Yeah I sold it after I played through it once, bad decision.
i know Im quite off topic but do anybody know a good website to stream newly released tv shows online ?
This game is my personal favorite of the ICO trilogy.
Castle In The Mist
Heal
You Were There
My three favorites too :D
This is not a game . It is art :) Unbelievably impressive whole thing :) Best computer based generated thing I guess so :)

ICO You were there
作詞・編曲:大島ミチル
作詞・対訳:Lynne Hobday
歌:Steven Geraghty
The island bathes in the sun's bright rays
Distant hills wear a shroud of grey
A lonely breeze whispers in the trees
Sole witness to history
Fleeting memories rise
From the shadows of my mind
Sing "nonomori" - endless corridors
Say "nonomori" - hopeless warriors
You were there
You were there
Am I forever dreaming
How to define the way I'm feeling
You were there
Countless visions they haunt me in my sleep
You were there
Though forgotten all promises we keep
Slaves to our destiny
I recall a melody
Sing "nonomori" - seasons lit with gold
Say "nonomori" - legends yet untold
You were there
You were there
Happiness follows sorrow
Only believing in tomorrow
You were there
Countless visions they haunt me in my sleep
You were there
Though forgotten all promises we keep
The island bathes in the sun's bright rays
Distant hills wear a shroud of grey
A lonely breeze whispers in the trees
Sole key to this mystery
Plugged "ico soundtrack" into the search for Castle in the Mist, got the entire soundtrack in one video instead. Ahhhh yea.

Just played this game for the first time. The music and epic soundscapes are such big part of what makes this game so magical. I tried to be strong and not cry at the end :) Playing Shadow of the Colossus now
this game still has one of the best soundtracks i've ever listened to in a videogame
I never got to play Ico but Shadow of The Colossus and The Last Guardian are two of my favorite games. It’s a shame that I never got to play this classic.
Ico is little masterpiece.
you should play it still
Recently bought a used PS3 just to play Ico. Got it off the playstation store, although maybe I should get a disc copy too.
The composer, Michiru Oshima worked on the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime.
I think "Continue" is probably my favorite. It just feels so dreamy...
That'd be "Heal" for me...
For me is "ICO - You Were There", because it remembers me what i feel when i ended the game.
Shadow is one of the most chilling songs I've ever heard
Love the way Studio Japan releases their soundtracks in a non-sequential way that really tells a story
holy fuck, this restricts my breathing. it overwhelms me with aesthetic associations of nostalgia. what a soundtrack. what a game.
Hey watch your profanity
'Castle in the Mist' is very nice.

Heal :D
Superb! This is very similar to the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack...That's good too...
Mhhhh....Silent Hill 2 soundtrack ...interesting...
The exact same thought went through my mind as I was listening to this!
Shadow and entity is the most chilling music ever. Perfect for that sad part of the game. Super creepy.
Love the way you made this video, thank you!

Shadow is spot on
i love "Impresssion" so much

Personally ICO holds up FAR better than SotC. But tbh there are many instances of awkward camera and controls in even ICO.
CaitSeith what are you talking about?! XD I see you dont know what art is. Game mechanics didnt aged well? man, this isnt call of duty. lol

Cuando lo vi por primera vez me dije: vaya éste juego es bueno y no se diga de su música, al parecer fue elaborado con mucho sentimiento. ;-)
While not as epic as Shadow of the Colossus, this is a pretty good soundtrack, I'm just surprised at how short it is, I really should play through this game since of how revered it is in the gaming community.
This game gives me crack vibes, it isn't bad.
So did you play it yet? I'm really curious to see how a person who played SotC before ICO feels about the game.
Most of the game is played without background music, only ambient sounds. It really gives you a sense of place.
What Doth Life I played SotC before and ICO was a dream in comparison. A far better game personally! SotC was a Love/Hate thing. Absolutely incredible art, aesthetic, music and design but actually playing it was another matter. Whereas ICO was a pleasure to both play and experience.
Peter Avastrat Fighting the smoke monsters can get ultra-tedious but the Windmill scene alone was worth it.

the gate
queen is an ambiance that get's into your skin, Ico reminds me of a disney world inside a videogame.
I don't think Disney was ever dark enough to be compared to this game. The music sounds more like a Hayao Miyazaki film.
damiester1 Have you ever watched Fantasia? It gets intense.
Fantasia yes, also Fox & Hound, Pinocchio, and Mickey's Christmas Carol all feature some very dark moments, for Disney anyway.
What Doth Life lol I've watched Fantasia, but ICO was completely morbid throughout.

A mighty good soundtrack but I dare to believe that there is any connection, but 11:05 & 11:43 sounds very similar to tracks in the Silent Hill series.
Many songs in this OST bears similarities to the OST of The Fifth Element movie. Can anyone else hear this?

TokenGo is an excellent platform, you can buy from just one coin. There is little time left, there is still a chance not to miss and buy coins of TOKENGO at a bargain price, and in the future it will be possible to sell much more expensive.
Make your kid watch Peter pan he won't grow up, he'll dream of flying his whole life when he still won't just go get a pilot's license bc that's work. Make him play ico he'll be an upstanding citizen if you remind him he did years ago. It's easy to forget after a decade. "Forget" I mean.
