Hi a kid with far too much time on his hands here.
The woman who died, her mother, and the other woman, her mom. Well her mother and her mom could have just fallen out of love it probably isnt that simple. When they talk to the grandparents and the grandparents basically say that they didin't support their daughter for being gay that most likely means her mother had some interalized homophobia. So what most likely happened is that overtime she started to think more and more about what the grandparents said it made her hate the relationship so much that she left. She probably wanted to cross it all out of their life bc she was ashamed.

She probably could have jumped further, but when they say ‘jump’ they are referring to her killing herself by walking off the balcony rather than literally jumping off.
I think it was based on probability. When you commit suicide, you often walk or fall off. It’s not common for a suicide victim to leap as far as they can off a small balcony. So if she had no outside help, she likely would have fallen closer to the balcony and landed on the roof. Where as if she was pushed the force would have taken her past the roof.

(2) She was in her 40s when this episode aired in 2003. (3) Tatum won an Academy Award (Oscar, not Grammy) when she was 10 years old. (4) Reagan McNeil is a character from “The Exorcist” played by Linda Blair who had the lead role in “Born Innocent.”
