S/O to my fellow Noir Apothecary people! 😊😊 This is my first year participating with Blackoween so I hope I did it right. I have my place, I have 4 books to read for the 6 prompts mentioned on Storygraph. Idk my role but I just wanna participate, support Black authors and read a genre that I never have before. Any tips and advice welcome 😊😊
Let the record show... I knew who Joe was on the map. 🤎🤎 Now... You did the thangy thang!!!! It's giving excitement, production, mystery, thriller and sooooo much fun!!!! This is amazing!!!! So proud of you, Bre Bre. Umm, can you repeat "Choose your journey, choose your role." and "Choose your journey, choose your role, you roll the die ."just one more time?! Let me go get that map. I love this so much! Blackoween™athon for the win!
yayyyy yayyyy yayyy!! Whew, all the background work that went into this was beyond worth it! I hope to see you all at St. Treme 👻 bound to be a spooky fun time
Bre Bre you are so stunning. Your giving goodness. Queen. Black magic. Thank you for bringing Blackoweenathon to everyone. This was so thought out and detailed. Loved the shimmies 😂 ❤
Im an OG participating since year 1 and Im SO excited for this. I def see myself reamining an ametuer but making stops at a few of the locations in Toula's Parish. I wanna see everything there is to see in Toula's. I only post on Insta so hopefully you'll have a hashtag again this year for those of us who wanna share posts and stories there!
excited to participate! I may not go all out and try to become an inspector, but definitely have some Black author crime fiction on my TBR I want to get to this October. :)
I am so glad I came across this. Here in the uk October is Black History Month so I try to focus completely on book by Black Authors but have been looking for more spooky Halloween books so hopefully will find some more book options
The Blackoween glow up!! This sounds fun. Also, I feel like you hypnotized me. 'Choose your journey, choose your role, roll the dice.' Speaking to me directly, lol cause I am not heading into one section cause I'm a coward.
Whew😅 my little brain is sweating lol. This took so much time and effort on your part. You are AWESOME for real!!! Can’t wait for this! I’ll be chilling in St Treme. 😉👻 fingers crossed I can keep up. 🤞🏾✨
Bre this is absolutely incredible! I can't wait to participate again this year, this looks like so much fun! For sure will need to become a grand searcher. I think I'm going to try to do two places each year!! Now to decide which ones 😂 seriously congratulations on making such a cool readathon, I'm super excited to participate!!
Love what have done this year! I’m excited to hear what people are reading… I need some recs 😊 I’m not a horror reader so I might go for the Noir Apothecary location! Love the map! ❤
I just heard about Blackoween from Book and Cook - how did I miss it all these years? This is right up my alley! And I LOVE all the references to New Orleans! I used to live there in the 80's and it is forever in my heart :) Wow, you've created a whole world here! Every fall, I do the R.I.P. Challenge (Readers Imbibing Peril). My pile of possibilities for R.I.P. includes several books that would fit for Blackoween, with books by Stephen Mack Jones and Walter Mosley. And have you read Anywhere You Run by Wanda M. Morris? Great award-winning historical suspense that came out early this year. This sounds like fun - I'll keep it in mind for next year! And thanks for the heads-up re: Bonfire. I used Zazzle to make some merch for my annual Big Book Summer Challenge, and I wasn't thrilled with the site - will definitely look into Bonfire. Nice to "meet" you.
I have been waiting for this!! Last year’s Blackoween was the 1st readathon I ever did & it was such a great time, and this year’s going to be even better! Thank you for all the work you do for this. Any and all awards you receive are well deserved.
Came here from Monae's video to join the fun! Might try to get a little done in both Noir Apothecary and Ruby's Crew since I don't really do horror/scary books, but I'm mostly here to expand my reading horizons and read more black authors! HAPPY BLACKOWEEN EVERYONE 🎃🎃🎃
Is there anyway to get all the info so that we can print it off (the different places, book prompts, buddy reads)? I like to print off the prompts/bingo boards for readathons so I can write on them what books I am thinking of reading that fit into them.
1:04 - Whooooo🎉🎉🎉 have I been checking your channel constantly since August to make sure I have not missed this - YES! THIS sounds AMAZING! Love how excited your are to share this, I am buying the storytelling and suspenseful build us as you lead us there!
The world building and logistics of this is INCREDIBLE wow I can tell so much love and care went into this 💛 can’t wait to participate! Tysm for including tiers of participation through the roles because I can only read max three books a month at my pace haha
I'm so excited for this! It looks amazing. I do have one question that I couldn't find an answer to, sorry if I missed it! But what happens if we roll the same number over and over? Are we able to use the same prompt multiple times, or just the once (and it's a free re-roll if it's the same prompt more than once)?
WOW! Sounds amazing! I hope you all have lots of fun and read tons of great books!!! Sadly, I'm gonna have to bow out this year... my Mom isn't doing well and the majority of my free time is now spent caring for her, running her errands, and dealing with doctors appointments and insurance companies. I'll be reading right along with you all in spirit though!!!! Happy Blackoween!!!!
Ahhhh this is so brilliant and beautiful Bri 🥰🥰 so excited for what Blackoween is going to be 🤗🤗 😂😂😂Dying at "not here for the stabby stabby murder murder. I need softness"
YAY!!!! I’ve been waiting for this all year! This helped me find some new authors to read and I also read The Conjure-man Dies because of you and this event. I already requested a box from your Etsy store and I’m excited!
Am very excited for this challenge - have been making a list of potential reads since last October. Just a few questions on how it works: So after rolling for first read of a location we read a book for that prompt. Once a book is read for that prompt we roll again. If the second roll is the same number presumably we reroll? Or could we reach Inspector Thoureaux by doing the same prompt multiple times if the dice demands it? Also, books can be used for multiple prompts in the same location. Does this not mean that the free choice prompt is automatic if we don't roll it first, as any other book we read can be used for that as well? Within each location the book needs to meet both the prompt and the location theme; correct? It would also be useful if lists could be shared of what counts for each prompt. Very few books have been added to the Storygraph. Is there another place we can share/find ideas specific to the different locations and prompts? Is the penalty deck book a replacement for the (re)roll or is it in addition? Sorry for all the questions but I am rather confused about the mechanics and keen to get it right.
1. Keep re-rolling until you get another number if you already rolled. Meaning of you role a three, kept that prompt, and then rolled a three again, keep rolling until another number comes. 2. One book can only be used for two locations but can be used for one, some, or all of the prompts in that area.
I must have mossed this sorry! But how does the penalty roll deck work? So excited for this readathon! Thank you for working so hard to take readathons to the next level!
If you roll for a prompt and don’t like it, you can roll again. If you still don’t like it, you can’t roll again. The only time you can role three times is if you choose a book from the penalty deck (link in description).
Ahhhh!!! I was thinking the other day about when the readathon announcement would be coming. And this was an epic announcement drop!!!!! 👻👻 Everything made perfect sense and I love the range of genres this includes. New Orleans is a special place and it’s perfect for an event like this. I personally love that I let the dice decide what I read since I’m so damn indecisive these days 😂 Wahoo! October is going to be AMAZINGGGGGGG. 🎃🎃
I’m so flipping excited!!! This is going to be so much fun!!! Is there a place to purchase a PDF or physical copy of that map? It is stunning and I would love to print a copy and put it in my bullet journal to track my reading. Also thank you for including a definition of crime fiction, because I thought it was just a subset of mystery novel and I was struggling for ideas.
Just two quick questions! Is there a specific place for all of the readers to interact, or is it just the social media hashtag? Also, is there a website/spot to mark off the prompts, or is it just the bingo board on Instagram and the google tracker? Thanks so much! 🥰🫶🏽
Yes we mainly interact on reading sprints. I have the tracker in the description and that’s how you track what you and other people responses are. I’ll post bingo boards later this week. It’s been busy
Yes, I've been waiting for this. How can I purchase a printout of the map (or a file to send to the printers)? I may have missed it.
Yes, in the description box I added just now
Yesss it’s available
Got it.
