I vote for getting it done and watching the professionals at work! It may take a team two weeks but it could take the two of you the entire summer, it's a big job!
Thanks, MsRiverdee! 😊 You’re so right-a team of pros could knock it out in no time, whereas we’d be at it all summer! Watching them at work will be a great learning experience, too. Appreciate the advice!
Good point, Karen! 😊 Coordinating schedules might be a bit tricky-we’d definitely want to be around to watch and learn from the pros if possible. Might have to plan a few well-timed days off to make it work! Thanks for the reminder!
Thanks, TJ! 😊 Bringing back the original stone look across the whole cottage would be stunning! We’re definitely considering it-there’s just something timeless about exposed stone. Appreciate the vote of confidence!
@@TwoMenTheirDogif when you have taken it back, you start seeing damp patches on the wall on an exposed to the weather the most wall in bad weather with driving rains, it is likely that (just) that wall will need to be rendered with what is called lime harling (a lime render) - that is a more skilled job than lime pointing, the pointing you can def learn to do yourself on a weekend course but the harling is probably worth getting the masons to do). The harl absorbs the driving rain and stops it coming through the pointing onto the inside wall, and then slowly releases it out into the air again.
Hi from the Scottish Highlands 👋 I'd say let the professionals at it ASAP. Our winters can be hellish and no two are the same. In 2010 we had snow on the ground here for over 10 weeks. In 2022 we were frequently down to -9 to -13 🥶 so I say get that gorgeous cottage redone and then one less thing to worry about (apart from selling a kidney to pay for it 😅)
Hello up there in the Highlands! 👋 You’re absolutely right-our winters can be so unpredictable, and it sounds like you’ve seen some brutal ones! ❄️🥶 Getting the pros in to tackle the wall now will definitely be worth it, even if it costs us an arm (or a kidney 😂). Thanks for the encouragement-it’s great knowing we’re making the right choice!
@TwoMenTheirDog Aw I am so glad. Peace of mind for you all. I absolutely love your cottage (I'm a fellow plant lover/hoarder and log burner lover 🤣 Looking forward to seeing the progress with your cottage. Stay toasty 🔥
@@SkyeSpirit Thank you so much! 😊 Peace of mind really does make all the difference. So glad you love the cottage-it’s the perfect spot for plant lovers and log burner fans like us! 🌿🔥 Excited to share more of the journey with you. Stay cosy!
It's a difficult decision but if I could afford it I'd get the professionals so that you have peace of mind that it's done properly and maybe have some sort of guarantee that the problem is solved.❤️
It's definitely a tough call! We’re leaning towards bringing in the pros to make sure it’s done properly and with a solid guarantee-it would be such a relief to know it's handled by experts. Thanks so much for the advice and encouragement-really appreciate it! ❤️
Thanks, Jill! 😊 We’re definitely leaning towards getting the pros in-having it done right and picking up some skills along the way sounds like the best approach! 🍁 Appreciate the encouragement!
@ we live in a very old cottage with a new addition added on. Best of both worlds we think. There will be lots of jobs you two can do for lighter evenings around the outside and lots to do inside when you feel like it. It’s too much stress trying to do this now so keep leaning towards getting the pros in. Loving your updates and even got my daughter watching now. 😁
Thanks so much, Jill! 😊 Your cottage sounds wonderful-having both the charm of the old with a new addition really does sound like the best of both worlds! We’re definitely leaning towards bringing in the pros so we can focus on the smaller projects ourselves. That way, we can enjoy the process without all the stress. So glad you’re enjoying the updates, and it’s amazing to have your daughter watching along too! 😁
Thanks, Suzanne! 😊 Totally agree-peace of mind goes a long way, especially with big projects like this. Adam’s got the right idea, and knowing the job’s done properly will let us relax and enjoy our new home. Appreciate the support!
Sounds like your partner wants it done Now!! If that’s the case your mason is the answer.. he knows what he is doing so steady and efficient in a timely manner. A bonus is he knows what type of mortar to use!! Lovely place you have!
You’ve hit the nail on the head! 😂 Adam was definitely keen to get it sorted sooner rather than later, and hiring a stonemason was absolutely the right call. They’ve been brilliant-steady, efficient, and using the proper lime mortar to make sure it’s done right. Thanks so much for your kind words-we’re loving the progress! 🏡😊
I vote for getting it done by the professionals. The main concern would be to yours, Adam's, and Benji's health! I also vote for bringing it back to the stone. Don't wait. Damp and cold can be very harmful to your health. ❤
Thank you so much, Auntie! 😊 We completely agree-health comes first, for all three of us, including Benji! 🐾 Getting it done by the pros and bringing it back to the original stone sounds like the best choice to keep us cosy and safe. Really appreciate your caring advice! ❤
Hi both, like most of your followers have said I would get the professional in for peace of mind and enjoy the cosiness of your lovely cottage without the worry of any of your lovely furnishings becoming damp. Watch and learn and develop a new skill for the future -all looked amazing from above - Kate (Dartmoor))
@KateTyler-r7h Thanks, Kate! That’s exactly it-having peace of mind over winter would be worth a lot. We’d love to tackle more ourselves down the line, but it might be best to let the pros handle this wall and pick up a few skills from watching them. Appreciate your thoughts, and greetings to you in beautiful Dartmoor!
Thanks, David! 😊 That sounds like a solid plan-getting the outside done professionally and handling the inside ourselves. Love the idea of keeping that single stone wall as a feature-it would definitely add character! 🪨 Appreciate the encouragement!
I would get the professionals to do the outside and watch and learn from them. You can do the inside and possibly the rest of the outside when you have time and better weather conditions.
Thanks, Karla! 😊 That sounds like a solid plan-letting the pros handle the outside now while we watch and learn, then tackling the inside (and maybe more of the outside) ourselves when the weather improves. Really appreciate the advice!
I suggest bitting the bullet and getting the outside done by professionals. I love ❤️ the IKEA wardrobes and your idea of enhancing them. Love and admire both of you. Benji is adorable. Hugs from Barney in Pennsylvania, USA.
I think you already know the answer. Get the outside done now and avoid even more damage. Next year you might be faced with the wall starting to crack and even more expense. The weather lately everywhere is catastrophic. And then there are the personal health risks of living in a damp house!
Thanks, Roseanne! 😊 You’re absolutely right-the risks of waiting are just too high, especially with how unpredictable the weather’s been. 🌧️ Getting the outside sorted now will help prevent further damage and keep us safe and dry this winter. Really appreciate the thoughtful advice!
Thank you so much, Nicola! 😊 So glad you like the wardrobes-the grey doors have definitely grown on us too! And Benji will be thrilled to hear he has a fan-he is quite the handsome boy, isn’t he? 🐾❤️ Appreciate the kind words!
I know it will probably break your bank balance severely, but I think getting the professionals in to do that one wall as quickly as possible would be a good idea as it looks as though it’s severely getting damp behind that paint
@rontanser9369 We’re definitely feeling the pinch but totally agree-it’s looking like a job best handled by the pros to avoid it getting worse. It's a big hit to the budget, but tackling that damp now could be worth it in the long run. Thanks for the advice and support!
@LindaThorpe-v2h Thanks, Linda! You're absolutely right-getting it sorted sooner rather than later makes a lot of sense, especially with the potential health concerns that come with damp. 😊 We're leaning more towards having the pros handle it to make sure it's done right.
I'm in the health first camp. Damp is not good for the chest or the body in general. I would get the pros in to do the work. You can pick their brains also do they guarantee their work as a kind of added insurance if any issues were to arise. With the work done and peace of mind you three can relax during the depths of winter unless of course your doggie wants to go to the pub. Best wishes and thanks for sharing your journey I am really pleased to be along with you.x
Thank you, Joanna! 😊 Completely agree-health comes first, and damp is definitely something we don’t want to mess around with. Getting the pros in would bring peace of mind, and if there’s a guarantee, even better! We’ll definitely be picking their brains for future projects. Here’s hoping for a cosy winter... unless Benji drags us out to the pub, of course! 🐾🍻 So glad to have you along with us on this journey. Best wishes! x
New to your channel so congratulations on your lovely new home but as a Scot I’d not think twice about getting that stonework done by the specialists. No question. It’s a major damp issue, it’s not a new kitchen say, it requires professional work and pronto. Winters are harsh and long! Good luck with it all.
Thank you so much, Steve! 😊 We’re glad you enjoyed the video and like the new wardrobe-it’s coming together nicely! Benji definitely approves too, haha. 🐾 Thanks for the encouragement; we’ll keep the videos coming!
I wouldn't wait to have it done and have it done right this is your home if it goes any deeper, you going to wind up spending more money love the cottage by the way hello from New York City
Thanks, Joyce! 😊 You’re absolutely right-getting it done properly now will save us from bigger costs down the line. So glad you love the cottage! Sending a big hello back to New York City! 🗽💚
Thank you so much! 😊 We’re really excited about exposing the stone-it’s definitely going to add so much character to the cottage. Can’t wait to see it all come together!
There are a lot of people doing stone cottages on RUclips at the moment, it’s saving them loads of money. The ‘camper vibe’ girls and Irish homestead are learning on the job.
@petebartlett2229 That's a great shout! We’ve seen some of those channels, and it’s impressive what people are managing to do themselves. We’re confident we could take it on, but as you say, it would save a fortune! It’s just tricky with time right now; we’d only have weekends to tackle it, and with winter setting in, we’d struggle to get the lime mortar done before the frost-especially with needing to strip all the paint first. We’ll see if the pros can fit it in soon!
Camber vibe girls and Irish homestead are doing brilliantly, worth watching 😁 If you have the funds 100% get it done, you won’t look back, nice and dry… enjoying your channel, love seeing the transformation, you have picked a lovely home and area, best of luck xx
Thank you so much! 😊 We’ve actually started following Camper Vibe and Irish Homestead-absolutely inspiring to see what they’re doing with their spaces! If we can stretch the budget, we’re leaning toward getting the pros in to sort the damp and set us up nice and dry for the winter. So glad you’re enjoying the journey with us, and thanks for the encouragement! 🏡🍀❤️ xx
I've been watching 'Rewilding Jude' too. Young man who's bought an old cottage in Scotland and is trying to bring it back to life. I find his videos very relaxing. He's a gentle soul.
@@drogna3905 Oh yes, we’ve come across Rewilding Jude! His videos really do have a peaceful pace-exactly what we like, too. We’re the same; some fast-paced, high-energy videos give us a bit of a headache, haha! It’s refreshing to watch someone who lets the moments breathe. 😊
Loving the Ikea wardrobes Jonny, well done! They fit the space really well. I think your ideas for embellishing them will be great. I’m looking forward to seeing the end result. Whilst I am all for saving money if it’s a job I can do myself I think I have to agree with the majority on this occasion on the gable end wall. If you can afford it get the professionals in and get the outside done. You will learn a lot by observation. Great vlog, Benjy is just adorable 😁
Thank you, Max! 😊 So glad you’re liking the wardrobes-they really do fit the space nicely, and we’re excited to add some finishing touches to make them our own. And yes, it seems like the consensus is definitely leaning towards getting the pros in for the gable end wall. Watching them work will be a great learning experience! Benji sends a big tail wag your way! 🐾😁
Hi @elainelester3507, thanks so much for your advice! 😊 We ended up following the same thought process and got the pros in for the gable wall-it’s been such a relief knowing it’s being done properly. Watching them at work has been a real learning experience, so we’re feeling a bit more confident about future projects. Thanks for sharing your wisdom-it’s always appreciated! 🛠️✨
I love my Pax wardrobes. I was 65 years old when I built mine,on my own. So easy and, as you say, great storage. I have them in all my bedrooms but with mirror doors.
Wow, that’s amazing! 👏 Pax wardrobes are brilliant, aren’t they? And well done for building yours solo-impressive! The mirrored doors sound like a lovely touch too. So glad you’re enjoying them as much as we are!
Thanks for the advice! 😊 We’re definitely thinking along the same lines-getting the gable end done by the pros will give us a great foundation (and a bit of a masterclass) for tackling other areas ourselves in the future!
Thank you, Scott! 😊 So glad you love the wardrobes and the color choice-it’s all coming together, bit by bit! Really appreciate the encouragement. ❤️ xxx
Hiya Adam,Johnny and Benji. Love your colour for the wardrobes, they will look fabulous when they are done. I would definitely get the professionals in for the outside wall, just to get it done for the harsh winters Scotland gets. Be good to watch and learn from the pros, then when spring comes you’ll be able to have a go inside on the living room wall. 😀 See Benji likes his hedgehog, looking all sheepish when you mention his new toy. Just have to love him. Thanks for a great video, really enjoyed it.😁
Hiya Debbie! 😊 So glad you love the wardrobe colour-we’re excited to see it all come together too! And we totally agree about getting the pros in for that outside wall; Scotland’s winters are no joke! Watching them work will definitely be a learning experience, and come spring, we’ll be ready to tackle the inside ourselves. Benji is absolutely smitten with his hedgehog-he’s a little charmer, isn’t he? 🐾 Thanks so much for watching and for the lovely comment; really happy you enjoyed the video! 😁
Thanks, Sharon! 😊 You’re absolutely right-it would take us ages on our own! Getting the pros in seems like the best plan to get it done right and quickly. ❤️
Thanks, Howard! 😊 We’re definitely going bold with the red-it’s a bit of a gamble, but we're excited to see how it all comes together! Appreciate you watching and following along. Have a great week too!
I know it's expensive but, it seems to be a very worrisome item so I would bite the bullet and pay for a quick resolve! You have plenty to keep you busy with just moving in as it is. Love the cabinetry! Well done! 😊
Thank you, Cynthia! 😊 You’re absolutely right-it’s a big expense but getting the pros in to handle it would definitely put our minds at ease. With so much to sort out after the move, one less major project would be a relief! So glad you like the cabinetry too-really appreciate the kind words!
Pay the professionals and get it done and fixed. You two will have lots of other jobs to do round the cottage and garden. Only so much you can do. The white cottage on the cottage is very appealing. Can you paint the wall again when it’s repaired with the paint they used on the other unaffected walls? I saw lots of cute little white painted cottages on the Isle of Skye back in the 70’s. Your cottage is lovely.
Thank you, Magpie! 😊 We’re definitely leaning toward getting the pros in-there’s plenty of work to keep us busy elsewhere! The white finish does have a classic charm, doesn’t it? Once the wall is repaired, we may look into a breathable paint similar to the other walls to keep that traditional look. So glad you’re enjoying the cottage-it’ll be a labour of love!
I know by now your handles have come in and are installed but for others in this situation you can create some temporary handles using heavy tape that at the appropriate height that attach a bit on the back of the door bringing it out past the door then fold under toward the door doubling it along the way then attach to the front of the door. When it comes time to attach the door handles all you have to do is rip the tape handles off.
Thanks for the clever tip! 😊 The handles have arrived, but-confession time-we’ve yet to install them, lol! 😂 Your tape trick is such a smart temporary solution. Maybe we’ll give it a try if we keep procrastinating on fitting the handles! 😅
@TwoMenTheirDog if you do the tape solution you have until the adhesives games off to install the handles including having to remove the adhesive residue that has hardened on the paint. So install sooner and forget having to get rid of the fossilized tape residue.
Great point! 😂 We definitely don't want to deal with the tape residue turning into fossils! 😅 Looks like we might need to stop procrastinating and get those handles installed soon. Thanks for the advice-it's much appreciated! 😊
I haven't read all the comments so don't know if anyone else has mentioned some other RUclips channels that would be helpful for you. The first is Campervibe, two girls who have bought a 200 year old stone cottage in Ireland. They are stripping it right back and renewing all the cement mortar with lime mortar (amongst lots of other work, which they're doing all themselves!). The second is The Irish Homestead, again a 200+ year old crofters cottage which they are virtually rebuilding. Again lots of lime mortaring. This couple had no experience whatsoever of this type of work, although Sam is a joiner, but they are doing a fantastic job. Please check them out as I think they will both be very helpful for you. I subscribed to your channel because I thought it was going to be another renovation. It isn't, but I'm sticking around because you're so nice and entertaining 😁.
Thanks so much for sticking with us, even though our channel took a bit of a different direction! 😊 We’ve actually heard of Campervibe and The Irish Homestead but haven’t had the chance to dive into their content yet. It sounds like they could be super helpful, especially with all the lime mortaring knowledge! We’re always keen to learn from others who’ve tackled similar projects-especially those with stone cottages. Appreciate the recommendations and your support! 😄
Wow, thank you so much, Eric! 🙏💛 That’s incredibly generous of you, and it truly means a lot to us as we keep working on our cottage (and tackling those unexpected projects!). Thanks for being part of this journey and supporting us. We’re thrilled to have you along! 😊🍃
Honestly, the cottage is your biggest investment and it is worth spending the money and enjoying peace of mind over winter, rather than having it hanging over you. It will be done properly and you will be learning how to do it properly. In the meantime, once it's done, you'll have the log fire burning through the cold months and that will be helping the wall dry from the inside out. The wardrobe doors look good👏
Thank you, Ellie! 😊 You’re absolutely right-the cottage is definitely worth the investment, and getting it done properly will give us that peace of mind over winter. We can already picture the log fire crackling away, helping the walls dry out from the inside! So glad you like the wardrobe doors too-they’re coming together nicely! 👏
Such a good way to look at it, Murial! 😊 Getting the pros in means we get the job done right and pick up some valuable tips along the way-it’s like an investment in both the house and our DIY skills! Thanks for the perspective! 😁🤗🥰
It’s a tricky one as yes it’s expensive but you would get a guarantee and assurance of no more damp. I think I’d get it done outside just that gable before winter
Thanks, Maria! 😊 That’s exactly what we’re thinking-getting the gable done before winter would give us peace of mind and a guarantee against future damp. It’s a big cost, but probably worth it in the long run!
Another option is to hire a ‘stone mason/waterproofing guy’ and work along with them so they do the required knowledge transfer to you two and do the 1st thing work next summer
Thanks for the suggestion, Tom! 😊 After everyone’s advice, we’re now leaning towards going with the stonemason to repair the wall, and hopefully, we’ll pick up some tips and techniques along the way. Working alongside them could be the perfect way to learn for future projects!
@judyrice3883 So glad you love the red! We’re excited to see how it’ll transform the look once we paint over the grey. Thanks for cheering us on through all these projects!
Yes, red definitely makes a bold statement! 🎨 We’re excited to see how it transforms the look of the wardrobes-it's such a warm, rich color and really does stand out beautifully. Thanks for sharing, and glad you’re on board with the color choice! ❤️🏡
From; USA-Texas - 75YO here and have seen 1 or maybe 2 other of your vids and enjoyed them as well. So often - old is new and comes with charm and character so your cottage really interest me and glad young men have an interest. Nice young men and from Scotland and that helps me see another part of the World, where I have faild to make it a mission to visit and of course now regret. The wardrobe looks just fine so why make additional work? It's for you guys not for everyone that visits. Eager for the next vid and projects. Thanks.
Hello from Scotland, Jon! 😊 So glad you’re enjoying the videos and our little cottage adventure-it truly does have that old charm that makes it special! We’re thrilled to share a piece of our corner of the world with you. And you’re spot on about the wardrobe-it’s all about making it feel right for us, not just for show! Thanks for the encouragement, and we look forward to bringing you along for the next project! Cheers from Scotland! 🏡🌍
@jenniferkelly6450 Thanks, Jennifer! We're leaning towards getting the pros in too-those winters aren’t messing around here! And glad you like the grey doors; they’re growing on us as we plan out the room! 😊
I would do the inside of the walls myself you just need the proper tools a chisel and hammer are ideal and when you put the lime on don’t make it too sloppy once it is nearly dry give it a rub down with a wire brush lightly and if you get lime on your stones get a harder brush. Good luck lads you can do this no bother.
Thank you so much for the helpful tips, Morag! 😊 We’ll definitely keep that in mind when we tackle the inside of the walls. Sounds like a great approach, and we’re feeling more confident now! Thanks for the support, and wishing you a wonderful New Year! 🎉✨
That is definitely great news, exposing the stone is part of the fix. It makes complete sense though and I did think that it was definitely a problem. I think that exposing the stone will add so much character. It's also not an issue with the rest of the cottage so you can take time and decide. ❤️
Thanks so much, Neuton! We’re thrilled that exposing the stone is part of the solution-it's a big relief, and we agree it’ll bring so much character to the cottage. Since it’s only one wall affected, we feel a bit more relaxed about taking our time to get it right. Your support means a lot, and we’ll keep you posted on the progress! ❤️
Great to see Adam using protective gear when using the chainsaw etc. Enjoying your channel. Stop chatting about the wall and just get the professionals to do it!
Thank you! 😊 We’re glad you’re enjoying the channel! And you’re right-Adam definitely takes safety seriously with the chainsaw! 😂 As for the wall, we’re definitely leaning toward getting the professionals in soon-sometimes it’s best to leave it to the experts! 🛠️✨
I would investigate where the dampness is acually coming in. Usually, it's from the foundation which needs drainage on the out side of the cottage. Having said you are better off waiting to summer to repoint after you have reviewed the foundations.
I think you’re spot on-the stone wall on that side of the cottage really takes a beating from the elements, which probably doesn’t help with the damp. It’s also been pointed out that the chimney could be contributing, so we’re definitely looking into that as well. Every bit of info helps!
Great choice for the wardrobe doors, I really like them. Once you do what you are planning it will definitely not look like it wasn't built in. Great job and great video. Have a wonderful week guys and Benji, ❤️ from Cape Town.
Thanks so much! We're glad you like the doors; we think they’ll really come together once we add our own touch. It’s all about making the space feel like it’s always been part of the cottage. Sending warm wishes back to you and thanks for watching-Benji sends a big wag from Scotland! ❤️🐾
@KewiCampervan Thank you so much! ❤ We're excited about how the wardrobe is shaping up in the bedroom - still a few finishing touches to go, but it’s coming together! xx 😊
Hey guys awesome video tonight! The tree definitely looks better without that extra branch flapping about good job. We live in the Northumberland countryside near Carlisle not a million miles from you guys in a stone build house, and our house was painted battleship grey when we bought it. We had the whole house sandblasted professionally but raked it out ourselves and repointed it ourselves. It was a really messy job. We saved a fortune and it was a mammoth task but worth it for us as we wanted to spend money elsewhere. You guys are probably best just getting it all done professionally to be honest as its just the one wall, then its done and you can forget about it and concentrate your efforts elsewhere over the coming months. John and Chris x
Thanks so much, John and Chris! 😊 Glad you enjoyed the video-and yes, the tree looks way better without that rogue branch! 🌳✂️ Your house sounds amazing; what a project! Hats off to you both for tackling the repointing yourselves-that’s no small feat! 💪 We’re definitely leaning towards getting the pros in for our wall, especially since it’s just the one side. That way, we can put our focus (and energy!) into other projects without the mess. Thanks for the advice, and maybe we’ll cross paths sometime up north! Cheers! 🍻 x
Sounds good! Maybe we will cross paths you never know 🤷🏼♂️ if we spot you we'll say hi 👍 haha. we do normally travel in our motorhome around Dumfries and Galloway but we just sold it to pay off our mortgage. We have plans to move next year ourselves not too far away from where we are now and open a B&B so exciting times all around x
That sounds amazing, John! 😊 Definitely exciting times ahead for both of us! If we cross paths, please do say hi-that would be brilliant! 👍 Dumfries and Galloway is such a beautiful area, and opening a B&B sounds like a fantastic adventure. Best of luck with the move and the new plans-hope everything goes smoothly for you! x
@yvonneharwood-oz9fn Thank you! 😊 The grey doors are nice, and they work well for now, but we've got some big plans to paint them in a new color to better suit the room. Just need to pick the perfect shade-decisions, decisions! 🎨😉
@alanabroad Thanks so much! We're thrilled you noticed it! 😊 That’s actually one of our own designs from Godwin Vintage, fitting right in with the cottage’s character. We love how it gives a warm, vintage feel to the outdoor space!
@Gurkhyvel Absolutely, we’re right there with you-damp and mold are no joke, especially with a long winter ahead! Tackling it now would mean peace of mind for both us and the cottage. Thanks for the encouragement!
Sweeties get the professionals to do the wall needing repairs to ease your minds , it’s only money . My Dads theory was better to earn money , to pay the professionals than stuffing up the job , taking twice as long to do it and it looking a mess when finished . Don’t stress you have the rest of your lives in your beautiful home . Luv Sharyn and Rosie 🇳🇿
Thank you, Sharyn! 😊 Your dad had a wise approach-sometimes it’s worth spending a bit to ensure it’s done right and save the stress! We’re leaning toward bringing in the pros so we can truly enjoy our home without worrying about the wall. Sending love to you and Rosie all the way to New Zealand!🐾💚
If the cottage has stood all those years, why not wait till next year, save the money, then get the professionals to do the outside and the inside at the same time, saving you both time, so you can get on with loving your new life, if it was me i,d do that, lifes too short 😊, glad to see your back on screen x ps i think it would look great back to the original stone work 😊x
Thanks, Audrey! 😊 You’re right-the cottage has weathered a lot over the years, so waiting until next year and getting everything done at once could make sense. It would definitely save us time and let us focus on enjoying our new place. And we agree-the original stone would look stunning! So glad to be back on screen, and thanks for the warm welcome! 💚 x
Concrete is an obscene word to stone cottages! You'll sort it, no doubt. Wonderful, jam-packed video! Carry on men! Love and hugs from me in New Mexico USA.
@abqresident4461 Haha, couldn’t agree more-'concrete' is like a curse word around here! We’re determined to get it sorted the right way. Thanks for the encouragement and for tuning in from New Mexico! Love and hugs back from Scotland!
Hey Guys, Another great and informative Vlog, Adam the king of irony and sarcasm (trying to play it cool over cutting the branch off while obviously screaming like a proud child inside), and, Johnny, the love child of Perter Duncan and Craig Phillips and desperately in need of hosting the 'Blue Peter' episodes we all want to watch... such Fun! OK the gable wall, get the professionals in to do it in speedy time, that way you can relax enjoy the winter and look forward to doing all your home improvements in the new year. It will as you rightly say, give you the chance to watch them like hawks and learn everything they do, how they do it and the materials and tools they use. You ae paying them so can ask as many questions as you like and also get a list of the exact materials they use and where they get them from (probably at cheapeer merchants prices rather than home DIY). Certainly you guys can tackle the interior yourselves and it can be done in your timescale. Yes where the cottage is Stone, in the long term it all needs stripping off and personally, I'd then keep it natural stone, though if the elements are harsh, you may find a natural lime wash may add protection (doesn't have to be glaring white though, could thin it back to just a literal wash on the natural stone). One other thing worth checking, is make sure the ground level directly outside that gable wall is lower than the floor level inside the cottage, this is the traditional 'dampcourse', If the exterior ground level is higher it will trap rain water and that will be sucked into the wall and ultimately inside the house by the warmer air temperatures inside causing the damp to travel up the earth core of the natural stone walls. if it is higher, the simple fix you can do yourself is dig a channel about a foot wide down to the top of the large foundation stones of the wall (they'll be lower than your interior floor) and then just fill it with hardcore, this will create a drainage 'moat' where collected rain is both pushed down lower than the building, but also allows the sun and scottish winds to evaporate excess moisture, which is also what will happen when the exterior paint and cement morter is removed. These walls we designed for the natural elements to suck moisture out through evaporation which is why they need to breath. currently the non porous exterior paint is causing it to work in reverse where the heat from your fire is drawing the moisture inwards through the only escape it has...... As another Faithful viwer has mentioned watch the brilliant Ladies of 'Camper Vibe' ( www.youtube.com/@campervibe ) they are doing all of their stone walls themselves and facing much bigger issues than you have, but they will also remove any fears you have over tackling the rest of the walls inside and out yourselves...... I've waffled enough.. Great job on the wardrobes, the idea to box them in is terrific. We will expect to see Benji as the happy owner of an Ikea Elephant after your next visit, we'll all be majourly disappointed if he doesn't get one for Christmas..... Well Done Guys!
@bearmascall6772 Haha, this comment gave us such a good laugh! 😂 You've completely nailed it with Adam's 'cool and collected' vibe on the chainsaw and me as the Blue Peter wannabe! 🤣 Your advice on the gable wall is super valuable too-especially the tip on lowering the ground level for natural drainage, which makes perfect sense with how these old stone cottages were built. 🌧️🏡 And great shout on watching Camper Vibe; it’s inspiring (and reassuring!) to see others tackling similar challenges. We’re leaning toward getting the pros in for the gable wall so we can hit winter stress-free, but we'll definitely be taking notes along the way. And don’t worry-Benji’s Christmas list just got a serious addition with that IKEA elephant suggestion! 🐾🐘 Thanks again for the support and the advice, really appreciated!
@claymccleery9451 Thanks for the tip! I’ll let Adam know-he’s always on the lookout for ways to keep the garden in great shape naturally. We might start leaving the clippings as we go along to give the soil that extra boost. Cheers for the advice!
Hi lads hope your both well, can I make a suggestion the floor area at the back of the lounge doesn’t on film look very wide for what your purposing to do, I would try making it slightly wider, also I would bring in the singer spiral staircase and put it at the back of the room so the lounge will open up and close the ceilings in both rooms making more room in the kitchen you can then reconfigure the bedrooms having steps down to smaller bedroom and making that into a study/office. With the staircase at the centre of the cottage you may well be able to access the loft above the master bedroom, the old spiral staircase could be used outside for pot plants love you both but love your lab more ❤
Hi Margaret! 😊 Thank you so much for all your wonderful ideas! We actually thought about moving the spiral staircase to the back of the room, but there’s a massive 3-foot-thick stone wall there-it was once the dividing wall between the two cottages before they were opened up. The attic space doesn’t extend that far, so moving the staircase would mean knocking through that wall and extending the upstairs. Even then, we’d face a big step up and limited ceiling height because the neighboring cottage was on a different level. But who knows-maybe it’s something we could consider down the road as we figure out the best use of the space. And Benji sends his love too! 🐾❤️ Thanks again for the inspiration!
I agree the dampness needs to be fixed, but i have to wonder why just that corner of house only has issue? Could the chimney be the problem? Could it be letting water in too ? Ive always found that a project that seems to be a straight forward fix usually ends up much more involved than anticipated. I'd have the chimney inspected too. Just my thoughts.
Thanks, Sandy! 😊 That’s a really good point-it’s odd that only that corner is affected, and the chimney could definitely be a factor. We’ll make sure to have it inspected too, just in case it’s letting in water. You’re so right-these projects often end up being more complex than they first seem! Really appreciate your insight!
Hello, love watching your cottage-videos! I'd get the professionals for that outside wall, so it's done before winter and it's out of your heads, even if that costs a lot. Greetings from germany Petra👋🏼😊
@Petra.. Thank you, Petra! 😊 We're definitely leaning toward getting the pros in-peace of mind and a dry wall before winter sounds like the best plan, even if it stretches the budget a bit. Greetings from Scotland to Germany! 👋🏼
Aw, thank you! 😊 Adam’s definitely in his element in the garden and tackling projects-plus, he’s Benji’s biggest advocate when it comes to new toys! 🐾😂 So glad you enjoy watching him in action!
Thanks for the advice! 😊 You’re absolutely right-getting it done by the pros means we can move forward worry-free. If we can make it work with the budget, it’ll be well worth it. Done and dusted! 🩵
Go with the professionals. It is too important a job to cut your teeth on. If you don’t you will go through the Winter stressing about the dampness. I’m living that particular nightmare at the moment.
Thanks so much for the advice! 😊 You’re absolutely right-some jobs are just too important to tackle without experience, and we definitely don’t want to spend winter worrying about dampness. Sorry to hear you’re dealing with that nightmare yourself; sending you good vibes to get through it! 💪🌦️
I say get the outside wall done by the professionals this time, so that you know you will be snuggley and warm ready for what the winter weather throws at the cottage walls. So good that you now have your wardrobes, and love the ideas you have for making it look bespoke. Love your Benji, and he is really enjoying his new toy hedgehog from IKEA, bless him. Blessings to the three of you, from Jilly & Madge in West Devon, England. xxx
Thanks so much, Jilly! 😊 We’re definitely leaning towards getting the pros in for the outside wall-peace of mind and a warm, cosy cottage sounds perfect for winter. So glad you like our wardrobe plans! And Benji is absolutely in love with his hedgehog toy from IKEA; it’s his new favorite! 🐾 Sending blessings right back to you and Madge from Scotland! xxx
I think I would have it done by professionals who know what they’re doing - you two don’t!! I don’t think you realise just how much work it’ll be plus you’d have to hire equipment to get up there & that costs a lot. So how much would you actually be saving?
Thanks, Susan! 😊 You’re absolutely right-it’s such a big job, and getting the pros in who know exactly what they’re doing sounds like the best approach. The cost of hiring equipment and the time involved would add up quickly, so we might not save as much as we think! Really appreciate the honest advice!
@@SusanWhitehead-pq9wm Haha, no need to apologise-we appreciate the honest, direct advice! 😄 Sometimes the best advice comes straight from the heart (and the Scots! 😉). Thanks for looking out for us, Susan!
I think you already know the professionals need to do it asap but can understand about the money. Get it done.the fabric of the building is more important than indoor aesthetics
Thanks, Angela! 😊 You’re absolutely right-taking care of the building’s structure is so important, even if it means holding off on some indoor projects. We’re leaning toward bringing in the pros to get it done properly and give us peace of mind. Really appreciate the advice and encouragement!
I am a BIG fan of Ikea PAX wardrobes. Have had them in my last 3 places and think they are great value and the ability to do all the inserts and customise them offers brilliant flexibility for the money. I usually get the extra tall ones and build them standing up to get the extra hight and maximise the storage. Tricky when there is only myself doing it, but worth the effort! I also have similar issues with damp because the previous paint used wasn't a breathable paint, which it should have been going on to solid brick, non-cavity walls, so the front gable of the house has damp patches on the inside of the house... Shame as the paint looks amazing, but at some point it will have to be taken off to the brick and then re-done with better products. Great video!
Thanks, Andi! 😊 We’re with you on the IKEA PAX-such great value, and the customisation options are a dream! Sounds like you've mastered the art of maximising storage, especially with those extra tall ones. Totally relate on the damp issues too-it’s a shame when beautiful paint doesn’t let the walls breathe properly. Taking it back to the brick and redoing with breathable materials is definitely worth it in the long run. Thanks for sharing your experience, and glad you enjoyed the video!
I agree with previous comments, I would hire the professionals to do that job. It is a lot of money but I think it would be worth it. I really like the wardrobes you built they came out great. I like the colour of the doors I wouldn't paint them but that's just me )
Thanks, Sue! 😊 It’s looking like the pros are the way to go-everyone’s advice has been so helpful in making the decision. So glad you like the wardrobes! We’ll actually be painting the doors to match the bedroom decor once we dive into that project, but it’s lovely to know the original colour got some love too. Appreciate the encouragement!
Love the bedroom colour. I used to have a red bedroom and it looks lovely and cosy. Now we've got blue and are awaiting the delivery of our friend's bespoke wallpaper
Thanks, David! 😊 Red does add such a cosy vibe, doesn’t it? Your new blue sounds fantastic, especially with bespoke wallpaper on the way-that’ll make it extra special! Can’t wait to hear how it turns out. Thanks for sharing!
Hi guys, I agree with everyone that says use professionals, sometimes it’s money well spent and leaves you both to do others jobs. Jonny where’s your accent from, we moved from Sunderland to Morpeth nearly a year ago and your accent sounds from up here. I’m loving your channel and have just subscribed, I’ve just finished bingeing all your other videos.
Hi Mayet! 😊 So glad to have you with us, and thanks for subscribing! You’re absolutely right-getting the pros in will free us up for all the other projects we want to tackle. And good ear on the accent! I’m actually from Teesside originally, so not too far from you. Hope you’re enjoying Morpeth-it’s such a lovely spot. Thanks for binge-watching and all the support!
Chainsaws and blowers are just part of country life in Scotland. Can you say what brand that leaf collector is it looks amazing, easier than just blowing leaves. Moulding and skirtings really change the look of ikea wardrobes. Benji is such a happy boy running in the woods. Have good week guys.
Thanks! 😊 You’re so right-chainsaws and blowers are definitely part of country life here in Scotland! I’ll have to check with Adam on the brand of the leaf collector, but it’s been a game-changer, making leaf cleanup so much easier than just blowing them around. 🍂 And yes, adding mouldings and skirtings to the IKEA wardrobes will really transform them-amazing how those details make a difference! Benji’s absolutely loving his woodland adventures too 🐾🌲. Hope you have a great week too!
As this was listed as an urgent action, I would bite thebullet and get it done so you can see how the profesionals do it and what tools they use, and at least you have recourse if the problem is not resolved. based on this you will be in a stronger position to tackle more off the cottage next year if you want to. Robb Torremolinos Spain xxx
Thanks, Robb! 😊 You’re absolutely right-getting it done professionally would not only resolve the issue but also let us see exactly how it’s done and what tools they use. Plus, having recourse if it’s not resolved is a big plus! It’ll definitely put us in a stronger position for more projects next year. Cheers from Scotland to sunny Torremolinos! ☀️🏡 xxx
My gosh leave it until next year. One more winter won’t harm. Save yourselves money you need for other things. You can learn so much on RUclips videos regarding the work. Just my thought. Good luck with what you decide. 👍
Thanks, Rachel! 😊 We were considering holding off, but with so many people advising us to go with the pros, we’re leaning that way to get the damp sorted once and for all. It’ll be a relief knowing it’s done right! Really appreciate your thoughts and support-it’s great to hear all the different perspectives! 👍
Ahhh I get it. At least you will both have peace of mind and be able to be stress/ worry free in the winter. Also a lovely first Christmas in the cottage. Also again… you will have the knowledge after observing the professionals of taking on the rest if you both decide to. Enjoying your journey. So much 🐾👍🥂
Thanks, Rachel! 😊 You’ve nailed it-peace of mind through winter and a cosy first Christmas in the cottage is exactly what we’re after. Watching the pros will be a great learning experience too, just in case we decide to tackle more down the line. So glad you’re enjoying the journey with us! 🐾🥂👍
It's a toss up. I would do it, so next year u can do more personal choices inside. However, if u wait and save money ... that's a big pro. It could take you most of next year doing it yourselves. Do what your heart tells you ... good luck. Colorado Cherri P.s. love backyard.
Thanks, Cherri! 😊 It really is a tough decision! Getting it done now would free us up for more personal projects inside next year, but waiting would save some cash, which is tempting too. Appreciate your thoughtful advice-sometimes you just have to follow your gut! So glad you love the backyard, too! Cheers from across the pond!
Have all of the cottage taken back to stone, the unbreathable paint, + cement render needs to be removed, if you don't redo with lime mortar, all of the cottage will be damp.
Thanks so much, Lynn! 😊 You’re absolutely right-removing that unbreathable paint and cement render is key to letting the stone breathe properly. Repointing with lime mortar would definitely help keep the cottage dry and cosy. We’re really leaning towards taking it back to the original stone all around. Appreciate the insight!
I vote for getting the wall done by professionals too. You can watch how they do it and then you will be able to carry out the rest by yourselves a bit at a time. I like your wardrobes and what you are going to do with them. I bought a cheap circular saw and it lasted me years. I used it for lots of stuff round the house and garden. I even let my husband use it occasionally.
Thanks so much, Rosemary! 😊 Bringing in the pros for the wall seems to be the way forward, and we’re definitely keen to pick up some tips for future projects! So glad you like our wardrobe plans, too. And love the story about your circular saw-sounds like it served you well (and your husband got lucky to borrow it occasionally! 😉). Appreciate the support and advice!
Thanks, Clive! 😊 That’s definitely a sensible approach-doing the inside ourselves and then having the pros tackle the outside in spring. It could be a good balance to keep things manageable. Appreciate the advice!
Thanks, Miriam! 😊 We’re definitely leaning toward getting the pros in-it’ll be worth it for the peace of mind in the end. And we’re so glad you love the scenery! 🌄 We’re feeling lucky to have such a beautiful spot. Thanks for the encouragement!
Compared to the price of the cottage the 4k is minimal and you would get it done properly. This in turn will help the interior dampness and would buy you time to do it yourselves.
Thanks, Somchai! 😊 You’re right-the cost is definitely worth it compared to the price of the whole cottage, especially to have it done properly. 🛠️ It’ll make a big difference in controlling the damp and give us breathing room to handle other projects ourselves down the line. Appreciate the practical advice!
Lol, I would have loved to see Adam's face while taking the shot of you on the loo with a book and a huge smile on your face in the middle of the shop. 🫣👀😂❤️
Haha, yes! Adam's face was priceless! 😂 He was trying to keep a straight face behind the camera, but I could see the laughter creeping in. Just couldn’t resist the chance for a quick “read” in the middle of Ikea! 🫣📚 Thanks for the laugh, Neuton-glad you enjoyed the moment!
Hi guys. Another great video I found myself smiling throughout the whole thing. I like the way you’re going to deep depth about an IKEA wardrobe. I think it looks pretty good and each time I see Benji I love him more thanks guys and I look forward to seeing more soon 😊
Hi Graham! 😊 So glad to hear the video made you smile! We do tend to dive deep on the details-who knew an IKEA wardrobe could spark such conversation? 😂 And Benji’s winning more hearts every day-he’s just the best! 🐾 Thanks so much for watching and for the lovely comment; more to come soon! 😄
Couldn’t agree more, Penelope! 😊 Adam’s all about getting it sorted so we can relax and enjoy the place without worrying about that wall. It’s definitely a long-term home, so getting this done now lets us focus on all the smaller projects down the road. 🏡 Thanks for the encouragement-sometimes you just need that peace of mind! 🙌
Thanks, Lisa! 😊 Sounds like you know the challenge firsthand-repointing with lime mortar seems simple but definitely a huge time investment! ⏳ We’re leaning toward having the pros tackle our exterior wall too, especially since we’d love to have it done before the weather turns. Thanks for the advice, and good luck with your own project! 💪👷♂️
I say get it done by the professionals. Yes it’s a big expense, but you will both learn a lot from them and go on to do the rest of the cottage. If you leave it till winter is over, then there’s a possibility there will be more damage, and then more expense to fix it. Scottish winters are horrible, especially in the countryside. Cutting that branch down is a good job, when the snow comes, it will lie thick on the trees and would have broken that branch anyway. It also gave Adam a good excuse to use his chainsaw😂 The wardrobes look fantastic! I agree about IKEA, however they really have a great range of well designed items. We live in Abu Dhabi in a modern flat, and we bought 3 large wardrobes in white, the same design as your doors. The girl in IKEA designed the insides for us. It works while we’re here, but back at home we have nicer furniture. Benji is an absolute sweetheart with his new hedgehog toy. You say everyone needs an Adam in their life, I think they also need a Johnny as well, you two make a great team. Thanks for another great video. Have a lovely week, Sandra xx
Thank you so much, Sandra! 😊 You’ve got a great point about tackling the wall before winter-Scottish weather can be brutal, and we definitely don’t want any added damage or costs down the line. The branch was a good call too-Adam certainly enjoyed an excuse to fire up the chainsaw! 😂🪚 So glad you like the wardrobes! IKEA really does have some clever designs that fit perfectly. Your setup in Abu Dhabi sounds lovely; it’s amazing how adaptable their pieces are! And Benji is absolutely in love with his new hedgehog toy 🦔🐾. You’re too kind-truly appreciate the encouragement! Have a fantastic week yourself! xx
I'm sticking with a comment I made a few videos ago in that you should also consider where that moisture is coming in from. You have shown us two walls, both with the same aspect, built the same way and both incorrectly treated with that paint and mortar, yet one is suffering damp and one isn't. They are both on the downward slope/lower end of the building with the 'good' wall being in a direction that appears to be lower again than the problem wall. Moisture always goes to the lowest point via the easiest route, yet the apparently lowest point here doesn't have a problem. My argument doesn't negate that the walls have been treated incorrectly and need fixing like you say, but I would still argue that the main gable wall is bearing the brunt of the water flow down the road, as well as from that open unsealed drain and also through the soil. Fixing the paint etc will obviously help the rising damp, but I'd still be doing what you can to get the water away from the house in the first place. I vote for the painful option of the professionals. Not only will it get done in a timely manner, but as you say, you can learn from them to do the rest yourself. Hopefully you can consider the cost of repair as part of the purchase price of the house and move forward. It looks to me like it has been rendered 5mm and then painted, there doesn't appear to be multiple paint layers, other than possible touch-ups.
Thanks, Chris! 😊 Your insight is spot on-redirecting the moisture is key, and we’re definitely planning to investigate further. When we spoke with the previous owner, they mentioned that the water runs from the drain through a pipe under the gravel driveway, then away from the house. Might be worth checking for any blockages or issues there too. 🌧️💧 We’re leaning toward bringing in the pros for the wall repair so it’s done properly, and we can focus on sorting out the drainage long-term. Really appreciate your thoughtful advice-it’s a huge help as we work through all this! Cheers! 🍻
@@TwoMenTheirDog I would be suspicious of the actual drain. It looked like the old style of just bricks laid to form a channel. Whether they are on a cement base and/or are well mortared together (doubtful), you could be sure that it's leaking water into the soil all along the length of your wall. Based on what I think is the slope of your land (hard to be certain) that moisture would be heading under the house and down towards the internal side of the gable wall under the floor. It would seem to be a more likely path than water on the outside of the gable wall moving/seeping upwards against the natural fall of the land to then cause rising damp up a wall.. do you have access under the house? I would expect normally for it to be relatively dry, if it's sopping wet.. you have your answer... smart move going with professionals.. pick your battles I say.. especially so close to winter..
Thanks for the insight, Chris! 😊 You’re absolutely right-it’s worth being suspicious of that old drain setup. It does look like an older style that might not be well sealed, and it could easily be letting water seep along the wall. Unfortunately, there’s no access under the house since it’s a solid floor. Bringing in the pros before winter is sounding like the best call. Really appreciate your detailed advice!
Watch the family in Ireland who have lime filled their property.....it's taken them months desperate to get done before winter. Sorry, spend the money and get the professionals in.
Thanks, Lynda! 😊 We’ve seen how long these lime repairs can take, especially when doing it all yourself. Definitely don’t want to end up in a last-minute scramble before winter! ❄️ We’re leaning toward investing in the pros to get it done right and on time. Appreciate the nudge-it’s helped us feel more confident in that decision! 🙌
Thanks, Leann! 😊 You’re absolutely right-the thought of dealing with scaffolding ourselves is a bit much! 😅 Getting the pros in for this wall makes a lot of sense, especially with winter coming up. We’ll focus on the rest of the house at our own pace next year. Thanks for the advice-really appreciate it! 🙌
I vote for getting it done and watching the professionals at work! It may take a team two weeks but it could take the two of you the entire summer, it's a big job!
Hmmm, if the pro's work schedule is the same as the owners' work schedule, one or both owners will have to take time off from work to watch the pros.
I vote for bringing back the stones all over the entire cottage.
In 2022 we were frequently down to -9 to -13 🥶
so I say get that gorgeous cottage redone and then one less thing to worry about (apart from selling a kidney to pay for it 😅)
Hello up there in the Highlands!
I absolutely love your cottage (I'm a fellow plant lover/hoarder and log burner lover 🤣
Looking forward to seeing the progress with your cottage.
If you have the funds I would defiantly get the professionals in. Well worth letting them do it and you two watch and learn. 🍁
Get it done. I’m with Adam. Peace of mind is very important in a relationship.
Get the outside done and redo the inside yourselves. Definitely. I think a single stone wall as an external feature will look great.
Thanks, David! 😊 That sounds like a solid plan-getting the outside done professionally and handling the inside ourselves. Love the idea of keeping that single stone wall as a feature-it would definitely add character! 🪨 Appreciate the encouragement!
@@TwoMenTheirDog Yes because looking at your other walls, some are stone, some are brick, lots of different ages so you can't start stripping them.
I think Benji loves his new place and he's very impressed with the wardrobes.
Benji definitely approves! 🐾 He’s been supervising every step, especially with those wardrobes - they’re Benji-inspected and approved! 😂🏡❤️
The wardrobes look brilliant and I actually like the grey doors. Benji is such a beautiful dog with a stunning face. Great video
I would definitely get it done pronto. Also there are potential health issues connected to dampness. Don't compromise either of your health's 😊
@LindaThorpe-v2h Thanks, Linda! You're absolutely right-getting it sorted sooner rather than later makes a lot of sense, especially with the potential health concerns that come with damp. 😊 We're leaning more towards having the pros handle it to make sure it's done right.
Absolutely agreed, health first!😊
I'm in the health first camp.
I loved the video and I like the new wardrobe looks very nice.I think Benji approves as well, great job guys keep up with these awesome video's 😊😊😊😊
YES! The stone exposed will make your cottage Adorable…
Camber vibe girls and Irish homestead are doing brilliantly, worth watching 😁
If you have the funds 100% get it done, you won’t look back, nice and dry… enjoying your channel, love seeing the transformation, you have picked a lovely home and area, best of luck xx
I vote for getting the pros in and learn from them for future work
Hi @elainelester3507, thanks so much for your advice!
@TwoMenTheirDog I used the mirror doors, and they bounce light around. Nightmare to keep clean mind. I love mirrors, I have lots.
I would get the gable end done by pros. Use it as the masterclas for you and Adam to do the remainder of the cottage.
Thanks for the advice! 😊 We’re definitely thinking along the same lines-getting the gable end done by the pros will give us a great foundation (and a bit of a masterclass) for tackling other areas ourselves in the future!
Love the wardrobes and your colour choice you both doing a great job ❤xxx
Thank you, Scott! 😊 So glad you love the wardrobes and the color choice-it’s all coming together, bit by bit! Really appreciate the encouragement. ❤️ xxx
Loved the countryside footage and music selection. Awesome
Thank you, Nadean! 😊 So glad you enjoyed the countryside views and the music-we love pairing them together to capture the vibe! 🎶🌄
See Benji likes his hedgehog, looking all sheepish when you mention his new toy.
Get the professionals in, it will take you forever ❤
Thanks, Sharon! 😊 You’re absolutely right-it would take us ages on our own! Getting the pros in seems like the best plan to get it done right and quickly. ❤️
Love the wardrobes. Looks nice
Thank you, Cazza! 😊 We’re so pleased with how the wardrobes are turning out-glad you like them too!
The cabinets look great!!
Thank you so much! 😊 We’re really happy with how the cabinets turned out-they’ve made such a difference in the space! 🏡✨
Get it done guys....
Thanks, Miriam! 😊 We’re definitely leaning towards getting it done professionally-sometimes it’s just worth the peace of mind. Appreciate the nudge!
Nice vlog thanks. Hmm not sure about red? Looking forward to seeing how it turn out! Have a wonderful week! 😊 Howard
13:22 so cute ❤
Thank you! 😊 Benji absolutely loves his walks-glad you think he’s cute! 🐾❤
Thanks!
If you look at the cost as a combination of getting the job done and getting some “training” it doesn’t seem so bad after all 🤔
😁🤗🥰
Such a good way to look at it, Murial! 😊 Getting the pros in means we get the job done right and pick up some valuable tips along the way-it’s like an investment in both the house and our DIY skills! Thanks for the perspective! 😁🤗🥰
Is it just me who loves the lilt of a North-East England accent?
Glad to know it’s appreciated. Always nice to bring a bit of home into the videos! 😊
I love the wardrobe color you are putting on. Will look great and they still don’t look terrible as gray. Keep on working and posting. Love it
@judyrice3883 So glad you love the red! We’re excited to see how it’ll transform the look once we paint over the grey. Thanks for cheering us on through all these projects!
@@TwoMenTheirDogyes red is awesome color I have a large piece in my living room that color. It really shows off
Yes, red definitely makes a bold statement!
Benji is so precious. I'd get the professionals in re stone wall. Your winters are hectic. I love the grey doors.
Oh boy, with expressions like that and those puppy eyes how can you not buy him more toys, he's absolutely milking it. 😂❤️
Haha, he’s got us wrapped around his paw! Those puppy eyes work every time-safe to say, our toy budget might need some adjustments! 😂❤️🐾
❤ loving your bedroom idea for the wardrobe xx
Best of luck with the move and the new plans-hope everything goes smoothly for you! x
Love the grey doors
@yvonneharwood-oz9fn Thank you! 😊 The grey doors are nice, and they work well for now, but we've got some big plans to paint them in a new color to better suit the room. Just need to pick the perfect shade-decisions, decisions! 🎨😉
18:57 That lightbulb is so cool.
@alanabroad Thanks so much! We're thrilled you noticed it! 😊 That’s actually one of our own designs from Godwin Vintage, fitting right in with the cottage’s character. We love how it gives a warm, vintage feel to the outdoor space!
@@TwoMenTheirDog I've never seen anything like it. Very unique and beautiful.
I would definitely tackle the damp rn, both for the house and for your own health. Damp and mold really isn’t to be underestimated
Tell Adam that chopped leaves and grass clippings, nourish the soil. I never collect them in a bag.
You are both very creative I’m sure you will do something magical can’t wait to see what happens next x
Oh my goodness, do I love your property.
Thank you so much, Lisa! 😊 We absolutely love it here too-it’s a real dream come true. So glad we can share it with you!
I thought that too regarding the chimney.
Greetings from germany
Petra👋🏼😊
@Petra.. Thank you, Petra! 😊 We're definitely leaning toward getting the pros in-peace of mind and a dry wall before winter sounds like the best plan, even if it stretches the budget a bit. Greetings from Scotland to Germany! 👋🏼
your wardrobe plan sounds like it will be lovely!
Thank you so much! 😊 We’re really excited about the wardrobe plans-can’t wait to see it all come together! Glad you think it’ll be lovely!
adam is such a delight to watch in the garden and fixing things! (and defending benji’s right to more toys!)
Aw, thank you! 😊 Adam’s definitely in his element in the garden and tackling projects-plus, he’s Benji’s biggest advocate when it comes to new toys! 🐾😂 So glad you enjoy watching him in action!
i’d say don’t wait - get it done by the expert and his team if you can manage the cost. then it;s done and dusted🩵
@ Sorry to be direct but I’m Scottish lol
The wardrobe are lovely!
Thanks so much, Tina! 😊 We’re really happy with how the wardrobes turned out-glad you like them too!
I agree with you there Iv got a son called Adam!x
Aw, Tina, that’s brilliant! 😊 Sounds like you know exactly what I mean-Adams are definitely a special breed! 😂 So glad you can relate! x
Do what your heart tells you ... good luck. Colorado Cherri
P.s. love backyard.
If it was me i would leave it until spring do the inside yourselfs and let the professionals do the outside
Thanks, Clive! 😊 That’s definitely a sensible approach-doing the inside ourselves and then having the pros tackle the outside in spring. It could be a good balance to keep things manageable. Appreciate the advice!
Go for the professionals you'll be happier in the end
The doors look beautiful please don't paint them
The scenery on the land is absolutely awesome
Thanks
I am with Adams thoughts on this, get it done and get peace of mind, this is forever so you can do other less pressing jobs as time and funds allow
Let the pro’s do the outside, we’re currently repointing a brick wall with lime mortar. It’s easy enough but it takes forever.
It also gave Adam a good excuse to use his chainsaw😂
The wardrobes look fantastic!
Get the Stonemason and his team to do the outside ......before the issue gets any worse.....Best of Luck!!
The professionals for this wall-you don't want to be dealing with scaffolding as well. The rest of the house you guys can start next year.
Hey, Cynthia! 👋 Thanks for stopping by! 😄 Hope you enjoyed the video!
