    Some additional trivia:
    - SUGOI's Area 1 is the largest, because most of it is made up of late submissions, and it had the easiest geometry to continuously extend.
    - SUBARASHII was stricter about late entries and thus got less, but some were still allowed. Instead of late entries messing up the balance between areas like how SUGOI handled it, the Bedroom was added as a new area to house all of the late entries. This is also why it unlocks after the final area; they're late to the party.
    - KIMOKAWAIII has two hubs because halfway through development it ran into 2.1 engine limitations. To fix this, it was going to be split into two level packs. The island hub got half of its levels moved to a new hub that was made in a day, and Egg Gundam was made in a couple days to give it its own final boss. These two level packs were going to share one gamedata file, to have progress in one affect the other, kinda like lock-on technology. I personally still love this idea, but both 2.1.24 and 2.1.25 got made purely to fix these engine bugs and raise limits, so the two packs were put together again... thus, the subtitle "Part 1 and also Part 2".
    - SUGOI was made when I was a teenager and I was sick of the extreme mapping drought from OLDC being closed for "low submission rate & quality" (even back then I thought was a load of bull), so I just went and did it instead of waiting for it to exist. I knew nothing about Lua before starting, and only basic mapping knowledge at the time. The moral of this story is to be the change you want to see. :P

      Man TehRealSalt.. when I saw that there levels that you unlock After the final zone. It felt dumb and those level were good and the best ones too. So it was kinda Disrespectful when I saw it and I was like. ( HOLD ON so if you make good levels with good gimmicks and good boss fights... the chances of people playing your level is LOW!?! WHO THE HELL THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA)
      Ya but now that you explained they were late. It made me laugh ane remember the good times.. thanks

    I'm adoring these historic SRB2 content videos, I was there lurking around back when SUGOI originally released, so I experienced all three as they came out one after the other. It's kinda insane to be reminded that it was around 7 years ago, I was still stuck in high school back then!
    My favorite used to be SUBARASHII, due to it's special stages and true final boss, which I'm surprised you didn't talk about much. It was a jaw dropping moment for me, knowing that it was still SRB2 in the background of what that final boss was all about... Which kinda made me go into KIMOKAWAIII with way too high hopes for something to top it off. Then again, I think I'd likely agree with the latest one being the best in terms of an overall package nowadays, now that the rose-tinted glasses are off. I'm excited to replay these levels in 2.2, mostly so I can run around with my own characters haha.

    18:43 did this guy doesn't know the legend that is "Waluigi's Taco Stand"
    The simply started out as a short Super Mario 64 ROM hack and pretty much became a meme in the Mario 64 modding community

      @murphmariotwopointoh7714 10 месяцев назад +7

      Apparently the concept of Waluigi running a taco stand started as a Gamefaqs joke that turned into a Fanfiction that turned into a SiIvagunner joke.

    • @NerfPlayeR135
      @NerfPlayeR135 3 месяца назад

      The joke revolves around any concept for a Waluigi game being considered acceptable. Because he _still doesn't have his own damn game._

    The Sugoi Series is probably the single best project to exist in SRB2 and I can only offer my joy and thanks to all the contributors, and most of all the person behind it TehRealSalt.

    When I saw Purple Heart in the Sugoi pack, I was very confused but happy and besides the standard energy shots, this has a lot of her attacks and they act similar to the Neptunia series which I find fun

    I came back to this video after finally getting to play the modern port and it's probably my favorite SRB2 mod.

    Abandoned Airbase is good in a different way than most platformer levels in the sense that it just has so much vibes, the atmosphere is so good and the weird level structure and lack of enemies makes it land.

    Oof, man, I think the whole beauty of Abandoned Airbase was the whole genuine investigation/intuitive puzzle solving aspect. I know it's not the most 'sonic like' level since there's no enemies but idk I see it kinda like the best version of what an Emerald Hunt stage could be and I love the setting so much. It's up there with Seraphic Skylands Zone as one of my faves.

    Good news. Sugoi port is now here with improvement stages. And Combining subarashii and kimokawaiii to make fully ported mod!!

    Little things about SUBARASHII's special stages, Sonicguri is based on Suguri, a shmup series that isn't super popular, and Highly Responsive to Hedgehogs doesn't just have a touhou skin, this is actually how the very first touhou game played!

    9:18 after a quick look up it seems all the character's of Hyperdimension Neptunia are like anime girl versions of video game consoles? And Purple Heart is a powered up version of the character based on the cancelled Sega Neptune, so like if you go through like 5 hoops it makes sense that she's a boss because she's like a personification of Sega??? Still a WEIRD choice though.

    5:10 I didn’t even realize there was a switch here, guess i happened to hit it on accident
    Honestly I really love all of the music used in all three packs. Redcurrant Brewery (I ripped it from the game files myself just to listen to it), Skytop, mostly all of the original music, and Dimension Disaster Zone come to mind, but there is still a lot of killer tracks that influenced my taste in music
