I have only been playing piano for a couple years and have gotten reasonably proficient at chords in both left and right hands. I have played the first 5 levels definitely, but 6 and 7 were new to me. I love the idea of adding the 9,10 on top and sound that it produces. I will give it a go, how hard can it be? :)
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I'm 70 years old, love piano music, but totally lack talent. Plenty of desire; no gift. About ten years ago, I discovered the wonderful world of "fake books," but other than playing the chord when it appeared at the top of the melody line or adding it a few times extra to please my ear, I could never quite figure out how others were using chords to play such "melodious" sounds. YOU have answered that question simply, clearly, and beautifully. As soon as I post this comment, I will start practicing what you have taught me. I sincerely repeat what another person commented: God bless you for sharing your gift!
I want to know more about how to play the left hand to popular pieces.. Nobody ever explains that how I decide to take what pattern in left hand from the original piece and what patterns are there and what should I use them for...
I love levels 6 & 7. You are very generous with your time and talent. Please know how much I appreciate you. I have been studying classical for many years and you still teach me new approaches.
I’ve been searching for good left hand movements/ways of playing for about a year now and this is by far the best one I have seen! Thanks so much for this! Very well laid out and explained. Awesome song choice, too! 👍 “A Million Dreams are keeping me awake….” 🎶
I'm actually a guitarist trying to learn some basic piano as well. I struggle to play with both hands on piano. This will be very helpful to me since I can play step by step & gradually increase the level. I think I can play the 1st level. I'll work hard till I get to the 7th level. Thank you
I’ve played for years (I’m not a teacher… well I’m not a music teacher) and I’ve never explained it so easily when asked nor have I ever heard it explained so easily by music teachers.
Great tutorial! Thank you! Clearly, #7 is the most beautiful (when YOU play it). For my beginner fingers, #3 sounds the best (and only in C major - as soon as those little # and b get involved, it gets messy, very messy). My right hand fingers are a little more coordinated, so using your patterns with my right hand and letting the left ones just worry about the root (or maybe root and 5th - like your #2) has been a great way to make my amateurish arrangements sound a little more like an "amateur plus version". Eventually, my left hand will catch up (in a year or two,... or 25). Looking forward to the next many decades of your tutorials. I will need them. Thank you in advance!
The seventh level of playing chords is so amazing. I loved both the sixth and seventh levels, but the seventh level gave the most magical effects. Would love to learn the other ways of playing.
Hello: Thank you so much for helping people like us - Please do not stop. I have a question; what type of music can you apply this left hand technique too? Is the music Classical or Modern? Thank you, A
Hi Jazer, after "fooling around" with piano for years, I decided to actually learn how to play. I have always been good with chords.....by necessity, i learned all the major/minor sharp and flat chords. Now, everything is making sense. I have been working on your tutorials for hand independence. This has been my biggest challenge. I am soooooo right handed that this is extremely difficult but thanks to your lessons getting more comfortable. I am now seeing in this lesson that arpeggios are incredibly important and useful. Please, MORE!!!!! I was very mixed about whether i liked level 4 or 5 the most. I sometimes think simple is more pleasing. Level 6 and 7 seemed more complex and move varied but i like the simplicity of level 4 and 5. Eryka
I can't find good videos on the left hand patterns I love this video can you please make more left hand videos. I have learned with you more than with other people. Thank you for your time
I absolutely love level 7! Pls do more videos of how to actually play a pop song with the left hand accompaniments and right hand melodies! I have given up learning to read sheet music and just want to play pop songs.
Thank you for this tutorial … I loved levels 4/5/6. They all sounded much fuller than just the root note (which is still lovely). The song is A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman. Can’t wait to apply this to my playing
Jazer, you are amazing and it looks like you could be a Western Australian guy like me and perhaps have a chinese wife like me also. I have been a piano nut all my life, am trying to get my fingers around Rupert Austin's reharmonisation of "Somewhere over the Rainbow", but the 2nd and third pages are fast mainly semi-quavers and I play them like they were quavers, it's a bit despairing but your advice on playing either hand seperately (like my music teacher told me when I was young) is starting to make a difference. Thankyou.
Greetings from Indonesia😊I just found your channel & OMG, your lessons are the best! I believe anyone at any age at any level can follow your instructions coz they're so structured. Melody lines, I guess everyone can catch them by ear, but chords are somehow hard to identify. This 'breaking down chords' exercise is what we need to familiarize our ears to the left-hand patterns. I'll be following each & every lesson you teach😉May God Almighty bless you😇
Please, I too want more videos of left hand chords and do you have any videos on how to identify left hand chords when sight reading the right hand melody and making up the left hand base? Your videos are really helpful and motivating. Thank you
You have amazing teaching skills. Thank you. #6 & 7 sounded pro level. I'd like to see tips and tricks on filling notes in between the melody on the right hand.
As usual, you have given me a lot to think about in my practice. . and I will now give my left hand more attention. I didn't know that most people also find the left hand harder to.work on. I need more "real estate" in my brain---love that!
This video is helpful for transcribing songs, I often get a bit stuck on how to keep the left hand interesting. I'd love more of this type thing for sure.
Appreciate the demo. Any tips for a small hand to handle level 5, especially how to move the wrist? Feel very very tense when trying to stretch the thumb finger to press the farthest key. Thanks
You should go furthermore coach. Im already on level 7 just on my own self-learning. I went here to know more. How about the reverse back & forth arpegios and using of a bass before each chord arpegio? Thanks
Wow! Thank you man! You answered my question about left hand that I didn’t know how to ask. And so concisely and so simple! Why oh why no one ever explained it to me like this!? Thank you so so much, you opened my eyes!! ❤
For me it's level 7. Especially for this type of song. It reminds me of a relaxing theme. Something you would hear in Spa Music whilst having treatment and you are chilling out with your eyes closed etc. A Million Dreams from the Greatest Showman. Love this song. I would love more left hand patterns please Jezzer!
This was really beautiful and the song is a Million dreams. Do you have a full video piano tutorial on how to play this song? I really loved the different ways of arpeggiations. You explained them so well too!
I am not a beginner but your tutorials are so interesting and anyone would love to play the piano with your tips. I loved all of them. When i learnt music at school we were somewhat restricted. Love the tuneful pop music too.
That's why chord is called the backbone and ornament of melody. Though I am not entering in level 1. (But very close of it), This video is as usual very nice and inspiring. Thanks for posting this video. Lots of love from Kolkata, India❤️❤️❤️
Love love love your videos Thank you for teaching the different levels Would love to know how to play different left hand cords Millions dreams level 7
The song is called A Million Dreams by Pink. Beautifully played. I found level 7 the most beautiful level to play. I will now try to play it. Thank you, your video is very helpful 😊
Which level did you find most beautiful? Comment below😀
For me, it's level 6.....
I have only been playing piano for a couple years and have gotten reasonably proficient at chords in both left and right hands. Level 6 & 7 for me too... not that I can play them myself, though.
For me level 7. I will try it tomorrow😊
