  • Little amps, big sound!
Darren Hodson introduces the HT-5R MkII and HT-5RH MkII
Killer tones and innovative features make the HT-5R MkII the ultimate studio and practice valve amp. The MkII’s completely new design takes the performance of this award-winning tone machine to a whole new level.
To make the HT-5R MkII sound full and toneful even at the lowest volume levels, we designed a low powered push-pull power amp which produces the crunch and break-up characteristics of a traditional 100W output stage, but at a much lower volume. This is achieved by the use of a 12BH7 dual triode valve in push-pull configuration producing 5 Watts output, which is rich in valve harmonics and compression.
The Power Reduction switch takes you down to 0.5 Watts without any compromise in tone: perfect for driving the valve power stage at home or in the studio.
Our patented ISF circuit gives you infinite adjustment over the characteristics of the tone control network and takes you from the USA to the UK and anywhere in between. So now you can effectively design your own tone and finally find “the sound in your head”.
The HT-5R MkII also has a fully specified stereo speaker emulated output and USB audio output which allows you to easily record amazing valve tone. It also features the unique 4x12/1x12 voicing switch allowing you to change the tonal characteristics of the emulated signal between two emulated cabinet types. The stereo speaker emulated output can be used at the same time as the internal speaker/extension cab, providing headphone free monitoring or the choice to blend a mic’d speaker and emulated signals together for unrivalled usability when recording at home or in the studio. In addition the speaker output can be turned off for “silent” practice or recording.
Add to this footswitchable Voices for Clean and Overdrive, an XLR D.I. output, effects loop with switchable level, 16Ω and 8Ω speaker outputs which allow you to run the amp into an external speaker cabinet of your choice, and a stereo MP3/Line in allowing you to jam along to your favourite tracks, you have everything you need for recording or practising.
    What's NEW
    • Footswitchable Voices for Clean and Overdrive
    • Power reduction to 0.5 Watt
    • USB audio out
    • XLR D.I. out
    • Newly voiced studio quality reverb
Patented ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) Tone Shaping:
The conventional three way guitar EQ network, or tone stack (a.k.a. Bass, Middle and Treble), is a key to the characteristic “voice” of traditional guitar amplifiers. Classic amplifier designs have their own versions of this network which leads to their own tonal voicings. The ISF control allows you to infinitely adjust the response of the tone control network between any of the traditional voicings in a way that has never before been possible. In this way you can design your own sound and truly find “the sound in your head”.
    Professional Connectivity:
USB output have been added for the simplest way to get valve tone into your recordings. Also added is a pro balanced XLR D.I. output, which allows the speaker emulated signals to be connected to external devices for practicing, recording or live use.
    Power Reduction:
Inspired by our patented Dynamic Power Reduction circuit, simply switch down to 0.5 Watts at the push of a button without any loss of tone. Perfect for driving the 12BH7 power stage hard at lower volumes.
    Reverb:
Our new studio quality reverb has been designed to perfectly complement guitar tones.
    Stunning Looks:
The compact cabinet has a 3 degree angle on the front face, top-loader panel and stage-friendly chickenhead knobs giving the HT-5R MkII a stunning boutique style.
    HT-5R MkII Specification:
    • 5 Watt combo
    • ECC83 preamp valve, 12BH7 power amp valve
    • Unique push-pull power amp design
    • 2 channels
    • Footswitchable Voices for Clean and Overdrive
    • Power reduction to 0.5 Watts
    • USB audio out
    • XLR D.I. Out

I recently bought a HT5 MK11 amp and I am struggling to get a good clean tone. I have a custom shop telecaster and wondered if it would be possible for you to share your settings on this video? Needs to be turned pretty loud for the clean channel to start breaking up even on 0.5w. No master volume on the clean channel. It a great amp though. Love mine and sounds awesome through the headphone socket. I did use my bass guitar and wound to 11 to warm up the speaker because it sounded nasal and naff straight out of the box. I find the drive channel to be much more metal especially with humbuckers than this video suggests. Repeat it's a great amp for what it does.

The aritst is one of a kind combo which sounds better as it is than with any extension cab or effects in front! Plus only 3 knobs you need, the rest you do with the footswitch and guitar pots., no big dial in job at all...Good job folks

See, this is the kind of amp I'd love to have in the living room but I'm hesitant to buy one because I've read too many reports of poor quality control and circuit design issues. Also, there's just so much STUFF on this amp. USB, cab emulator, multiple line and powered outputs... I've seen how many ICs are on this the board. What happens when one of them decides to die out of warranty? Am I looking at 5 hours of bench time? Are spare ICs even available? Blackstar's high-end stuff is great, but this built-to-a-price line triggers my risk aversion.

Blackstar, check your ad copy. This is not an HT-1. The clean sounds very nice. I owned an HT-1R and it had too little headroom, even for bedroom practice.

@Bobby Murphy From their ad copy: "The Blackstar HT-5R MkII is packed with a massive variety of tube tones by virtue of Blackstar’s Infinite Shape Feature (ISF). This exclusive feature shifts the EQ curves of the amplifier’s Bass, Middle, and Treble controls. When turned fully counterclockwise, you’ll lend an American characteristic to your voice with a tight bottom end and aggressive middle. Turned all the way to the right, you’ll enjoy more of a British vibe. "

I bought one last month and only use it on the 0.5 watt setting, and even then nowhere near flat out at home.
It sounds excellent, and although I no longer play live I feel this amplifier is eminently gigable in small venues; massive ones if you have the PA.

The only problem is that i can only use Blackstar in 0.5w mode to get the hot valve sound in the same volume as THR, but i live in an apartment not house, so sometimes i think is too much amp for an apartment use only. No doubt that blackstar sound better than THR, much, much more in any channel, but for apartment use only THR is good enough if you want save some money.
