    If you are learning classical guitar, or would like to learn classical guitar, CGS is a great place to discover resources to help you on the journey. Whether you’re just beginning guitar, or have been playing for decades but want to rise to new levels in your playing, you’ll find highly detailed tutorials and lessons.
    At the root of beautiful playing is a solid technique (aka “the way your hands move”). You can find step-by-step methods, presented in very fine detail, showing exactly how to get great sound, and how to move your fingers. So as you progress, you can continue to improve. Bad technique puts a limit on your playing (speed, tone quality, control). Good technique gets stronger and more efficient with every practice. It forms the bedrock foundation for a lifetime of beautiful music. You’ll find loads of technique suggestions and tutorials at Classical Guitar Shed. And if you’re serious about learning great skills, you can join The Woodshed, and get arguably the finest classical guitar education online, with personal support and hundreds of practice-along videos. Read more on The Woodshed here: www.classicalg...
    You’ll find some of the deepest-diving explorations of classical guitar and Spanish guitar pieces anywhere online, with step-by-step instructions on how to play guitar beautifully so that the music sings and connects with listeners (any yourself) on an emotional level. Music is not entirely subjective. Some ways of doing things are more effective than others. If you learn these basic “rules”, you’ll automatically play with more grace, beauty, and feeling.
    At CGS, you’ll also discover archives of comprehensive articles about many of the issues, details, habits, and best practices surrounding playing guitar. You’ll find tips and tricks on how to be more effective at practicing. You’ll find articles on subjects as varied as getting great classical guitar tone, how to avoid pain and injury playing guitar, and the differences between practice and exercise. If you ever need a break from your practice and want to enrich your understanding of all that is classical guitar, browsing the Classical Guitar Shed archives are great place to explore.

    Wow. I really enjoyed that lesson.... corrected so many things I took for granted.
    I'm relearning, after 25 years not playing, but this time, I'm playing left handed (my natural hand, which is also my correct rhythm hand).... Great lesson. Thanks !

    I've been playing most of my adult life, and had quite a lot of lessons initially. But I was the worst student in the world and did little practice, so it's great to have these drills to try to correct all my self taught bad habits!

    Hello Professor Allen! Thank you for this excellent class! I've already practiced these exercises a little before and I actually find the fingers 2, 3 and 3, 4 more difficult to gain coordination... But it's really worth practicing! I'm going to try your suggestion of the zigzag movement!

    Not sure how to do the exercise without being able to see the fret board. That seems like the first step. Can’t even see if my fingers are in position.

    Allen,
    I play solo guitar at the intermediate level. I have been searching for someone to simplify advanced arrangements of hymns to intermediate level in terms of notation. How much would you charge for this work? I am thinking about 12 favorite advanced pieces arranged by professional guitarists. I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

    can you hold it however you want? like i feel more comfortable with pressing the strings (lol im such a noob) with my right hand bc my left is much weaker and its hard to control or do i have to do that with my left hand?

    • @pnnkkkuja
      @pnnkkkuja 3 года назад +1

      You can and you can get yourself a left-handed guitar or, altho it isn't recommended*, change your strings so that E is on the bottom and e is on the top. Then when you flip the guitar so that you press the strings with your right hand, you will have the normal order of the strings.
      I'm both-handed* and I used my left hand to press the strings for the last ~10 years of my sporadic guitar sessions. My pinky finger of my left hand has been damaged when I was a child so it's hard to use it to press the strings. Since recently I've been playing a lil bit more often, I wanted to play more correctly - and I needed a working pinky finger, so I decided to switch to my right hand. Feels funny.
      *It isn't recommended because a right-handed guitar might not work properly with a different string order. Dunno what that means exactly, this is what I did, or more like I asked the shop which sold me the guitar to do that. They also told me you cannot reuse the old strings like this cause they will keep to distune.
      **My left hand is more precise but weaker so I use it to write, but my right is more self-assured lol so I use it to cut, for example; however, it's a complete lottery which hand or leg I'll use to do more random stuff - kicking, covering my face when I sneeze or yawn. It happened to me to start randomly writing with my right hand and not realise. At this point, I've got no clue which hand would be "natural" for me to pres the strings, especially after using my left hand for years.

    I cannot focus on this if you've not addressed fair comments/feedback on your previous upload. How is one to take instruction from you if there are so many false claims on your previous?
    Probably would not be frustrated IF I could find a place that helped me learn and DID NOT USE CLICKBAIT TITLES THAT DO NOT HELP AT ALL...ARE YOU OUT OF TOUCH? STOP POSTING "BEGINNER VIDEOS"

    • @yourrnamee1280
      @yourrnamee1280 3 года назад +1

      btw, you are not even using the tips of your "i" or "m" finger. You are on the pad, or even the sides, next to nails. So much so, your finger joint flattens at the stress of it. So how shall we "play"?

    • @gshankaran
      @gshankaran 3 года назад +12

      @yourr namee - Are you for real? Let me break this down for you:
      First up, this is a free resource that Allen has created at his own expense (time, money, energy), based on knowledge and experience gained with much effort, and likely much expense.
      Second, no one is forcing you to watch this video. You are doing this of your own free will, so stop complaining.
      Third, if you are already knowledgeable about this content, then why are you even watching this?
      Fourth, has it ever occurred to you that once someone has gained significant experience and expertise, they can produce precise movements and results with minimal effort, that to the untrained eye might look "improper"?
      Fifth, try looking up Barre chords or string muting. Perhaps that will help you understand that there is more to fretting strings than just using the tip of your fingers.
      If you feel this video isn't helping you, then please move right along and take your bitterness with you.
