The only person who could do that better would have to be Harold Worst, who beat everyone out including putting an end to Luther "Wimpy" Lassiter's reign at the 1965 Jansco Johnston City Tournaments. That's where ALL the hustlers and best resided, including Fats, Buddy Hall, Boston Shortly, Irving Crane, Cornbread Red, and Cisero Murphy if they allowed him in as pool was very racist to blacks as they knew they would be the best players like we see in any sport today... just to name a few
Story on the street is Harold Worst made U.J. Puckett stop showing his trick shot, which was like a 2-3 rail draw shot at the Johnston City Tournaments. That shot was his claim to fame, until Harold Worst saw it, and did a 5+ rail draw shot on the first try. That's why he could best even Earl and anyone else.
That's fk crazy, he had 5 US Opens by 2000, over 24 years ago and no one even comes close not even efren who only has ONE (and that one isn't even legitimate given it was the year there were 2 US Opens). Only SVB has 5 and won 3 in a row... the TRUE GOATS of pool
This is by far my favourite pool youtube. I am playing pool to be able to recreate these stroke shots, oh boy this is the pinnacle of pool, these stroke shots, look how much side spin there is on these shots! Thank you for these footage, and Earl, please be blessed and well!
What a beautiful soul! An awesome player till this date. I’m a very competitive person I guess I can say. My brother in law invited me to a bar one day after work where there was a pool table. He beat me so bad the next day I wanted to go back and play again. I wasn’t interested in pool at all. I just wanted to win. The next day we went again and lost to him again. So I went home and I went on RUclips and I searched best pool players of all times. Strickland was one of them. I watched so many of his matches to help me get better at my game and ended up falling in love with the game ❤ so I gotta thank Earl and other awesome legends that help me fall in love with this game.
This guy is an amazing pool player. When I was a kid ,around eight or so, something about him just sucked me in. I can remember thinking to myself "oh, this guy is using magic" and I believed it. I'm at the age now where I have far less years to go than what's behind me and if I'm being honest I still believe it.
Earl the pearl had no fear at the table. Best front-runner of all time. Could put 8 racks on you in 15 minutes. But if you bet on him and he fell behind, he might just sweep your bet right into the corner pocket along with his opponent's Remaining balls.
There are glimpses of him believing in himself like he used to. He would flip into gear and couldn't miss a ball for about 20 mins and then he would get frustrated. When his mindset is right, he is un beatable STILL!
earl could have easily been called the Terminator. In his prime (I'd say like 70-2000) he would move around the table and shoot so fast and precise, make a crazy bank you didn't even see then on the next shot. 2 seconds later the match is over.
The Pearl Quotes “It is not good to want a thing too much. ... “But now, by saying what his future was going to be like, he had created it. ... “For it is said that humans are never satisfied, that you give them one thing and they want something more. ... “Luck, you see, brings bitter friends.” ~John Steinbeck.
It was never just Earl the Pearl; it has always been Sir Earl. Like the game, an American treasure; for me, the Greensboro Gunslinger: ain't nobody whomever shot a game of 9, that doesn't know your name!
You know as a long time Efren fan I've obviously watched many great matches between these two Legends. And although I agree with the majority that Efren is the POOL Goat, I feel as for 9 Ball.... Earl was the #1 Shooter of all-time. Man did those two have some battles..... with each getting their share of victories. I do believe that in 9 Ball solely, Earl had the better record. But it did seem that they brought the very best out in each other.... love all their matches. I just wish more were videotaped. 😕
I don't know the record. However, I really like both players. Hopefully I will get a chance to meet them both at some point. I've always believed that Earl was one of the best pure shooters of the game. In this video Earl confirms what I have always believed...that he was a natural. Had I never quit pool, I believe I could become a top 5000 player, but that's about as far as my ability would ever take me. As far as ability, Earl is off the chart.
@@juliusczarcabading9265 No arguing there.... Efren was multiple World Champion in 8 Ball and easily the Greatest One Pocket player. He's won Straight pool tournaments, and just about everything in between. Efren is the GOAT.... I was just commenting on how insane Earl's Shooting was in his prime, he was so good and him and Efren had some incredible matches throughout the decades.
Its my dream to meet the pearl im 17 and have plenty of time on my end, i just hope earls around when im in a good spot to be able to take a trip to meet him

@@mr.s1961 What a great era for pool in the sixties. So many evenly matched players and personalities.
Fast & Loose and DEADLY Accurate....Earl The Pearl aka "Thats Amazin" Strickland
Earl was 49 in this, making this circa 2011... juat in case anyone is curious like i was.

Great video! I’m a beginner player and watching his energy and approach to the game is something to admire.
His passion is unmatched by most. I get bored seeing players try to be robots. I like players who are human beings who can play like robots

Earl is the goat of 9ball. He was genius 🐐
Told he sounds like Efren, he constantly talks about how lucky he was his whole career. It's wild!

Had Buddy Hall and Mizerak stayed healthy and not gained 200 pounds, they would have played a lot more pool, Miz may still be alive

I think Earl has lost to Efren way more than he has won, but that depends on who you ask :P
