Just be prepared for SUPER HIGH FOOD PRICES when venturing off the ship.I have personally eaten cheaper in NYC than in Juneau . ✌🏼

Good point. I don’t even plan to eat while I’m off the ship. We are already paying a lot to be on it, with included food, so I’m not going to pay American prices off it. 🤷‍♀️

Just got back from our first Alaskan cruise (end of May, beginning of June). While I never needed shorts, I prepared by packing water resistant "convertible" pants where the pants legs zip off, becoming shorts. Perfect to wear on hikes as the zipped off pants legs take up almost no room in the backpack. Ready for all conditions!

we leave from Seattle on July 9! Thanks for the reminder of the eye mask. Good tip on the shorts! Our first Alaska cruise we were sweating bullets because weather was mid 80's and sunny!

Some cruise lines offer packages of land/sea cruises. While the cruise is nice, it only touches the surface. We did a land package before cruising and really found it to be a much different experience that what we found aboard the ship. And while August might be warm, we got snowed-out of Denali at the end of that month.

Agree, so glad we added the land tour to our cruise. Really gave us a much richer experience!

Hi Sherri!! I just got back from my Alaskan cruise and had a great time!! Your videos were super helpful and I felt prepared. I have a few tips for other cruisers. We used free a service called Port Vallet in Seattle and it was wonderful. Basically, we checked our bags on the ship the last night and they went all the way through to our final destination. So convenient!! Also, the temperature inside the ship varies much more than it does on a warm-weather cruise. Some areas were uncomfortably warm while other areas were a little cold, so layers inside the boat as well. Thank you so much!! I would not have had what I needed if it was not for you!!

We were surprised by the check-in process. Five years ago in Seattle, it took us less than 30 minutes to board the ship. In Vancouver a few weeks ago, there were three ships in port and we stood in line for 1.5 hours. It was much busier and crowded in Vancouver and I suggest showing up as soon as you’re about to check in.

I always get the currency for the country that Im visiting. My bank doesnt charge extra for the exchange amd doesnt have a large minimum purchase. I also watch the currency valuation and try to get it when its most bamg for my USD. It will be slightly different when you get to the bank. This not only helps not to overspend but protects me from getting my credit card number stolen or an unethical store dealer overcharging my card.

Question for you we normally always fly in the same day as our cruise, due to the fact that my wife has to use a power wheelchair scooter. Therefore we use the air on and the cruise transfers to get my wife from the airport to the ship and back to the airport. On the special design shuttle bus well my question to you is if we flying in early to Seattle, is there a way that we can get to a hotel if she has her scooter with her. It doesn't fold down and it isn't that late it is about 250 pounds. So that is why we typically always flying the same day as our cruise. And cross our fingers that nothing happens.

Alaska is an expensive state for traveling. Just budget and plan accordingly. If you have a group of 3 or more, it may be cheaper to rent a car and explore on your own.
I recommend doing a land tour after your cruise renting an RV in Anchorage for 5-7 days.
The summer months are generally 55-75 F and rainy in August. But Southeast Alaska is rainy in general.
