Very helpful. Didn’t know how to get to the international terminal without leaving security checkpoint and this answered it perfectly. Thanks for posting
I know this comment is quite late but thank you! I’m flying internationally alone for the first time soon and it’s nice to see a general layout of the terminal! :)
I'm flying United from SBA to SFO and then to Heathrow in July. It's been about 3 years since I was at the International terminal in SFO and seeing this helps me remember where to go.
Great video and very useful. In 4 weeks I’ll be flying SAT-SFO then connecting SFO-Osaka in UA Polaris class. I have just under a 3 hour connection so it’s good to see the Polaris Lounge will be hard to miss on my way from terminal 3 to the international gates. Many thanks!
@Patrick yes I did. If you transit in US airport, you have to go through security again. Its troublesome. Only certain non US airport (ie in canada) provide “US custom preclearance”. Even if you fly in from friendly countries like Japan, you need to redo security checks again if you transit in US
I will be having a 10hour layover here with my family on May coming back from our trip to Manila. This gives me a feel of what the airport is like. Thank you. I also subscribed🤙🏽
i’ve been to san francisco many times and i dropped my dad and my grandma off at sfo so they could visit new zealand. however, i’ve never flown in and out of sfo and i can finally see what the terminals look like
I miss when SFO gates numbering was numbered 1-102. Now, I think the major airports that uses that type of numbering system is LAX, SAN, MCO, EWR, LGA, and DCA. (Some airports I listed do use the numbering system, but they added letters in front of the gate number like for example C84.) Now, airports uses a letter and a number that overlaps (number starting at 1 at each concourse)
Which is better: Gate numbers with just numbers that does not overlap (like it goes up to the 100s), gate numbers with letters that STILL does not overlap, or gate numbers with letters that overlap (like A1, B1, C1).
Great Video! I have a question. I will have a layover at SFO from PHX, flying United, then onto Munich. Will I have to go through security again to enter the international terminal? Hoping my 1 hour and 16 minute connection is enough. Thanks!
When Flying into terminal G from Mexico with a connection in terminal 3, I know we'll have to clear immigration and customs, pick up and recheck our bag, but will we need to go through security again?
From Terminal G, do I need to clear security again to get to Terminal A and back? We're planning out checking out the lounges on A but we're departing from G. Thank you in advance! 🙏🏽
I’ve never done it myself, but everything i’ve read says you have to exit the secured area and clear security again when moving between those gate areas. Sorry I don’t have better news. Thanks for watching the video.
Alaska Airlines arrives in Terminal 2 at SFO. I have never been in that terminal. A quick Google search revealed that when transferring to the International Terminal, one must exit the secure zone and clear security again at the International Terminal. There is an AirTrain between terminals that should get you from Terminal 2 to the International Terminal in just a few minutes. Depending where you land, it may take longer to walk from your gate to the AirTrain station that it will take you to ride between terminals.
Hello! I am flying from LAX to SIN with a connecting flight at SFO. My layover is only 90 minutes, is that enough time? Do I also have to go through security and collect my bags then check in again? My terminals are exactly the same as yours (land in terminal 3, then connecting flight is at G gates) Thanks in advance!
Assuming no delays on your flight from LAX, that will be enough time. I found that at a modest walking pace, it takes no more than 15 to get from the furthest Terminal 3 gate to the Terminal G gate. You won’t have to go through security again or collect/re-check your bag.
The gate numbers have changed since the time of the video. What is shown is now numbered G1 to G14. So, the video will show the route you were asking about.
Hi, i'm an Air Traffic Controller and aspiring musician from Ireland. I've just completed an instrumental electronic piece of soundtrack, the theme of which is called This Terminal Life. Would it be possible to use a some footage from your awesome video on an accompanying video that i would be using as background during live performances and maybe as part of a compilation on a youtube video? Naturally, full credit would be given to your work and if there are any sections you wouldn't want used, i'd fully understand. Thanks for your time, Regards, Michael.
Hi Michael. Thank you for watching and for thinking highly enough of my work to ask to use footage. Please feel free to draw from the footage. I do appreciate you asking and providing credit. I'm always happy to help and share with fellow creators. Please do let me know if you do a compilation RUclips video. I look forward to seeing it. Regards, Don
Hi Don, That's so kind of you . The music is nearly completed - when i have finished editing the video, i'll be sure to send you a copy of it, Regards, Michael.
On arrival, there is a long corridor to the immigration hall on the lower level, below what I showed in the video. The time in immigration really depends on the number of planes arriving and the number of agent on duty. After immigration, you collect your luggage, exit the baggage hall and then re-deposit your luggage for your onward flight.
Since this was a longer video, I chose a selection of the longer music clips available in iMovie on my Mac devices. Thanks for watching and thank you for the question.
United Airlines international departures are in the G gates of the International Terminal. It is the concourse shown in this video. The gates numbers were changed shortly after the video was posted. They are now numbered G1-G14. United flights can be assigned at any of those gates.
Ryan Chapman Not just United Airlines but any airlines in the Star Alliance (staralliance.com), like Lufthansa or Air China, use the G terminal. Many people use the airside connector between Terminal 3 and G terminal shown in this video to connect between their domestic United flights and international Star Alliance flights. If you are flying long haul business class on United or any Star Alliance airline, (excl. Canada and Mexico) you can use the United Polaris lounge, in which the entrance is also shown in this video. The video author is right about everything else. ** However, things have changed due to the Take this as a grain of salt, but at the same time, based on past experience, there’s a good chance United will be the only airline you see when you look out the window of the G terminal. I flew out of there last summer and was in the G terminal from about 12:30 to 3:00 PM (which was when our Lufthansa flight started boarding) and literally the entire time, the only planes I saw at the terminal besides the Air China 747-8 and the Lufthansa A380 I was flying on were United 777s and 787s. Kind of disappointing because I like spotting a variety of different airlines.

Hi was your transit at SFO time consuming? I read that even for transit passengers, you need to get your baggage and go trough customs again?
@@junjie2525 Did you find out?

I hear you. I have shown up at the wrong gate for that reason - right number but wrong concourse. Then it is a quick run to the correct concourse.

I like your idea. Time for you to get into airport design. 😁
My layover is only 48mins I don’t know if I can make it lol . Thanks
It is possible if you arrive on time and aren’t near the back of the plane. I have done it. Good luck and enjoy your trip. Thanks for watching.

No need to go through security again on a domestic to international connection. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
Thanks for your question and prompt response. It helped. My 1st layover at SFO fr. Dulles, and then to Japan.

Correct. That is exactly where it is. On the left, just before entering the walkway. Thanks for watching.

Can we walk through between gates A and G?
I’ve never tried and have never noticed a route to do so. I’m sorry I can’t give you a more definite answer.

There are other terminals with other gates. I was traveling through SFO on United and featured only the gates used by United.
